That's just the state of the restaurant industry now, can't really blame the individual restaurant owners entirely. This bread was awesome with the garlic, but elevated even more when combined with our soups... more on that later. As to the sides, it was a generous portion of really tender rice/almonds and some of the best lentil soup I've ever had (and when I asked for extra lemon, the excellent server brought me a legit bowl of lemon wedges - made be very happy!). My young son didn't like his "lamb chili" so I inherited it by default - and it was fantastic. Not bland but not overly spicy, with some beans and big on the flavors. The main attraction was the chicken shawarma, though. A large pile of rotisserie chicken - this was the real deal shaved-off-a-rotisserie, not prepackaged nonsense. Some chunks were thick, some were thin and crispy, and the entire thing was amazing. There are 20 more things on this menu I'd like to try - I started with the chicken shawarma because it tends to be a "bellweather" of sorts for whether a place delivers with quality - so I'm going to be begging my wife to meet me there for lunch a few more times this summer. The first time we went, the food was pretty darn good, especially for anything outside of Dearborn, but they also messed up our order. They said they were out of rice pudding so they gave us some pretty sad pieces of baklava in exchange. (Honestly, it didn't look like a fair trade.) It also took longer than promised, but we attributed these hiccups to new business growing pains. Our second visit was substantially worse. Once again, the order wasn't ready on time, and when it finally was, it sat there getting cold even after we checked in. What stood out most, though, was the lack of urgency--there were plenty of staff around, but no one seemed particularly interested in helping customers. And the food? All the flavor from the first visit had disappeared and was replaced with the blandest grape leaves and falafel. The "Combo for Two" had the saddest amount of protein disguised with a tray full of rice that did not equate to how much we paid. At this point, it feels less like new business growing pains and more like a pattern.
