The midwest rules. Seriously. This is my third trip to Milwaukee in the past year and I've eaten at a number of fantastic spots. The dinner I had tonight at Goodkind was the best so far. The venison Osso Buco was so tender I didn't even need a knife. The Walleye Fingers were just perfect with the accompanying coleslaw. And, the split pea soup was the best SPS I've EVER had. I'm not kidding - just fantastic stuff. My one complaint - no dish was very hot. In fact, I really wanted the Osso Buco to be hotter. However, with that said, the food was so exceptional that it made up for any temperature variations. In addition to the food, the general dinning atmosphere is perfect. It has an old-timey feel - with a real "from another era" touch to the decor. The servers are all super sharp and know the menu very well. And - the beer and wine list are fantastic. I will be back in Milwaukee and I will eat here again. read more

Goodkind has all the good vibes. Can whoever decorated that place please hit me up? I'll pay for you to decorate my place. I've only visited the Goodkind in the late after hours (always after 9 pm for some odd reason), but every time I walk in, the atmosphere feels so welcoming, homey and comforting. Maybe it's from the dim lights, eccentric wallpaper, and house plants. I prefer a bar spot but the other spots are just as cozy. For cocktails, I like the wood dog as I'm more of a whiskey drinker, but from what I've seen of the other drinks--they look just as tasty. For food, you MUST get the chicken liver mousse. It's the best damn chicken liver mousse in the city! They serve it with wheat crackers but I like to order it with grilled sourdough bread. Ugh, so good, I dream of that liver mousse. For other food, I've have their ragout and calamari. The ragout was good tasting but had a little too much lemon or lime in the sauce and made it too acidic for my liking. The calamari is the bomb.com and you should definitely order it to start out. I definitely want to try the rest of the menu, so I'll be back for some late night eats. read more

This place has great food. What sets this place apart from others is it's unique/creative combinations of food. It's not unique, as in super stuffy and foods you don't know. It's just interesting combinations that I would never think of putting together, but they taste great. We ordered about 5 entrees, one appetizer, and a 2 deserts (and drinks). Each plate was really good and a first on all entrees. Good stuff. My only thought that I wasn't crazy about was the cost. I knew ahead of time what I was in for, but I don't know if it warrants the prices. I would go back once in a rare while, but generally speaking, the cost is going to steer me away from going more often. Small point to think about when going there: When you enter, it appears their front door is on the corner. It's a cool looking door with glass on top and a few entry steps to the door. It looks like it should be the entrance. It's not though. If you walk up like I did (and a few others I noticed), it's closed and you end up walking up, looking down on people eating. Go to the SIDE of the restaurant where the sign is. This may sound obvious, but a few people made the same mistake this night. read more

We really like this place. Food is great and drinks are amazing. Would love more Vegan options and a separate fryer for veggies, but I get it. I'm surprised by the lack of safety measures. Zero social distancing; my wife and I were the only ones wearing masks, including staff. I appreciate the sign stating that staff is fully vaccinated, but what about breakthrough cases? Came for brunch with a party of 5 over the weekend during a snow storm. It was still full. That is always a good sign. I've heard a lot of positive stuff about Goodkind for a couple years now. It seems to be one of those "Milwaukee" places that you know about if you actually live here. It certainly didn't disappoint from an atmosphere standpoint. The wood is all mismatched colors, really home-y. Also, holy wall paper. Eccentric, but familiar. I love MKE restaurants. The food was amazing. Our brunch crew typically orders an item for the table, pancakes or french toast... Something we all really want but would never eat a whole plate of. That way, every one gets a bite or two and no one is ashamed all day. Good plan. We went with the Ebelskivers which are filled with cheese, and the French Toast Sticks. Both were supremely light and not overly sweet. The French Toast Sticks were especially delightful with just a little crispiness and a bit of chocolate sauce to wipe from the plate I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and it was really effing good. It was supposed to be spicy, which I didn't really get but the flavor was there so I'm good with it. The bun on this thing was light but still held a great shape. Maybe the most perfect over-medium egg i've ever had. It slowly ran down the chicken and soaked into the bottom part of the bun. Perfect. My buddy had the Risotto and it was gone in like three bites. The Falafel Melt scored high marks from the vegetarian at the table. Can't wait to go back. This one stands up to the best. P.S. I do have to say this one thing: My wife ordered poached eggs with her basic breakfast and they were not correct. The whites were slimy and did not envelop the yoke... Basic brunch stuff. Going with 5 stars because holy cow, so good. But runny poached eggs and a really small glass of OJ is about where I normally draw the line. read more

If you are looking for unique food combinations, a trendy atmosphere, very helpful staff and a menu that changes by the week - Goodkind is your place. Went within the first month of Goodkind's opening and it was very busy - given the good reputation, I'd imagine that hasn't slowed down. The place itself isn't overly large, so if you're planning on going there, try to time it slightly off the usual rush. Despite this, the staff was very attentive and offered thoughtful suggestions. They even tipped me off to the fact that the flower in my drink was edible (what?! amazing!) - spoiler alert, it tasted like flower. This is definitely on my list of places to go back to. The only downside was that it was a bit pricey (especially the drinks), but given the quality we didn't mind the cost as much. read more

A place I like to check out on somewhat nicer evenings out A smaller, but, very niche and wholesome menu with tappas style food. Also a smaller location so plan on making reservations regardless of group size. A quiet local bar and restaurant with delicious, herbacious, and creative cocktails. Vegetarian friendly-ish, though not very many options. Worth checking out every once in a while as the menu is made with fresh, local, ingredients and rotates accordingly. read more

I was one of the first two customers to try their new Fight or Flight Prix Fixe, I came close to giving it four stars, and I will willingly go back for a brunch. It may be sacrilege to say during Beer Week, yet their little Beer Bites ratio is too high on the beer side. It's not pints and burgers, so the matching of sizes is important and the food is disappears too soon. Can't lessen the beer sample size, or it wouldn't give you a proper taste, so just raise the price and dole out a bit more food. My fried cod did have oil starting to invade the fish, and since the surface area of the little guy is high, not for me. It even wiped out the peppercorn flavor of the paired beer. Props for the red cabbage puree not being bitter like red cabbage. Bit cool, yet still succulent suckling pig. The coffee stout by Sierra Nevada isn't high on my beer list. It's paired lamb sausage with tomato jam on a cocoa nib pancake is on my all time list! This better make it on the brunch menu from time to time. And I'll still be happy at said brunch having the brioche french toast. Beer Week version had fried shredded Grana and a piece of peach that tasted much better than a normal peach. Friendly service and I think by far the highest natural light to seating ratio in Bay View. Maybe that's why it's back in that corner as it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the town :) read more

I thought that the Champagne Battered Oyster Mushrooms were incredible! I honestly would have ordered 6 more orders if I could have. We also got the Spicey Crab Pasta and the Sea Scallops and neither really blew my mind. I expected a bit more flavor and perhaps complexity with the price point. Overall the experience was delightful! Making a reservation over the phone on a busy Friday night was simple. Staff was friendly and service was quick. I'm a big fan of this place- nice atmosphere, delicious food, and well crafted cocktails. I've been twice now, once in the winter and once in the summer. You'll definitely encounter longer wait times in the winter as summer months offer outdoor seating. I've sat at the bar both times due to not having reservations, so if you want a table make sure to call ahead. The menu doesn't seem to completely change with the season, but you will find some different items depending on the time of year. On my most recent visit I had soft shell crab that was amazing, and I know that wasn't an offering in the winter. Drinks are made with care and beautifully presented. They have a manhattan named "call it a night" that they state is award winning. And oh my, it truly is a winner in my book. Best manhattan I've ever had. Bottom line- check this place out! read more

We loved this quaint little place! Stopped in last night before a show without a reservation and were seated right away which is always great! I had the stuffed squash with rice pilaf and parsnip chips it was so delicious and filling. My fiancé had the fennel brined half chicken it was seriously the most juicy tender chicken I ever tasted! Okay, it wasn't PERFECT. But they attempted perfection- and ended up with EXCELLENCE. Fabulous cocktails (I went old fashion and my lovely wife had a great tequila concoction). Incredible loud birthday group in the back threatened our good time, but the chef and bartenders openly mocking them calmed my nerves. Rotisserie chicken was close to perfect- crazy juicy inside, crisp outside. Parmesan polenta was a perfect accompaniment, and wild Rice crepes danced a tango on my tongue. I am in love with this place. It is a small intimate space that is good for dining with a couple friends or good for going out on a date. I had the softshell crab, which is only on the menu for a limited time (as it should be), and it did not disappoint with was served with greens and a roumelade which complimented the crab wonderfully. I stopped in here for brunch one Sunday afternoon with a couple of friends. I thought the items were interesting and intriguing but the prices were a bit on the high end, especially for the portion sizes. Everything was tasty and our server was excellent but I'm not sure it was worth the price. Had a great late-night bite here. Delicious cocktails --particularly the manhattan. Ordered the seaweed chips as a starter. I thought they were perfect with a sweet and spicy sauce. If you're looking for something traditionally salty, look elsewhere, though. Split the lobster pasta with my wife, and it had just the right amount of tang with the pepperoni giving a punch of heat--all capped off by the cooling seafood. 10/10 would recommend. What a great find - thanks THRILLIST. First time in Milwaukee, but with no frame of reference as to where a good brunch spot would be, a little googling and I found myself in Bay View with my boyfriend to eat at Goodkind. What looks like a little house inside is a cozy welcoming inside with trinkets, fresh flowers, and whimsy. The menu itself is so much fun, drinks like "Joe Mama" and menu items like "boring breakfast" pull at the kid in you. My boyfriend ordered just an oj, and he said it was the freshest oj he's ever had. Me wanting a little bit of alcohol and a little bit of coffee, ordered the Joe Mama. There was't enough drink in it. 50% of it was ice, 25% was whipped cream. The cold brew itself was fine. But the whipped cream was really good, slightly chocolately, so I just added it to my regular coffee. My boyfriend had the hazelnut french toast, which was literally melt in your mouth calories. I had the Ebelskiver Pancakes . What a surprise with the little balls. Everything about them, the fuffiness, the grand cru chz, mint jam, & cardamom was so decadent. The biggest disappointment was the servings. There were only 3 balls the size of forerro rocher. Thank goodness i ordered eggs on the side. And they were probably best eggs I've ever had. But you'd think that if I ordered poached, they'd put it on a piece of toast or something to soak up the runniness. I felt like the yellows were wasted. Great spot all around, just got shafted with the amount of food for the pancakes, eggs, and coffee. Loved it and felt like home! read more

Came here last night for dinner and unfortunately my gf ended up with food poisoning. The food was good overall, but of course when someone ends up having severe GI upset it's hard to get excited about the restaurant. We had the mussels, steak, and sea scallops. I came here on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. Tuesday is burger night at Goodkind and wow it was the very best burger I had ever had. Our kids spent $100 dollars on a gift certificate for us and Goodkind will not honor it for carryout...only dine in (dine in not available) This is neither "good" nor "kind". We were very much looking forward to one of their meals and now I'm just disgusted with them. Saddest part is it probably matters very little to them. Not that difficult to honor something you have already received payment for. Highly disappointed in them and shows very little integrity...again neither "good" nor "kind". We were having a lovely dinner here until the bill arrived. I had to do a double take when I saw that they charged us a 10 PERCENT COVID SURCHARGE! They also charged us $10 for bread and $1.00 for a couple little cups of what looked like Kraft parmesan cheese (think powdered stuff with the green cap) to put on a PASTA dish. I have never felt so nickel-and-dimed by a restaurant, and we go out to eat several times a week all over Milwaukee. We also travel for extensively for work, and I've never seen anything like this 10 percent charge anywhere - Chicago, LA, Miami - not anywhere. My dentist only charges an extra 5 percent right now and that's because of all the extra PPE they have to buy. All this said, the food, drinks and service were all fine, but we won't be back. These absurd extra charges were an incredibly unwelcome surprise after spending $200 on dinner. And that COVID charge is insulting to the intelligence of their customers. If you want to use COVID as an opportunity to make more money, just raise your prices, but taking on the extra amount AFTER people have dined with you is sneaky and left me feeling cheated. Not being upfront about your prices is a dirty way to do business. read more

Side of warm German potato salad is just red potato with green onion, needs at least salt/pepper to taste Side Garlic polenta, ok but would not order again. I am a huge fan of Goodkind. Great atmosphere, food and drinks - what more could you really want? I would highly recommend going on a Tuesday for the burger night. You will not regret it! The only note I would make is that it can get a bit loud in the space when it is busy, so if you are looking for a super intimate quiet dining experience this might not be your first choice, but everything else about it is seriously so good. read more

Just remembered the name of this place, from visiting there last August (oops !! :P) We were trying to get into another bar/restaurant, that was full...and really noisy. We asked the Doorman where he would go for late night food options. (I believe it was already after midnight.) He recommended Goodkind, and WOW...what a great suggestion. Dimly lit, quaint place. Awesome "chill" vibe for a date, or the last stop of the night. The cocktails were incredible. I was I could remember the bartender's name, because she was fantastic !! Friendly, very helpful, just what you'd hope to get, sitting at the bar. We mixed some Small Plates with one larger one. Everything was delicious !! Many unique options, that you don't tend to see on menus very much. You could not go wrong here. So if you need a "wind down" place to get a great drink and maybe some fun food to share...remember the name "Goodkind" !! Well done guys :) read more

Call It a Night is one of the best drinks in Milwaukee. Their version of the Manhattan, it's Woodford Reserve, Carpano Antica, Pedro Ximenez, and (some fancy named) absinthe. As if I know what any of that is. Just give it a try. The food is typically really good, sometimes great. Some of the menu changes each week, but when you see the salmon dish on there, get it. It's my favorite dish at Goodkind to date. Also, the scallops are delicious. The Tuesday burger special is almost always fantastic and I highly recommend following them on Instagram so you can find out what they'll be serving. Ambiance...I'd say it is arguably the best in Bay View. Nice decor, good vibes, friendly bartenders, but not too friendly to make you puke. Just the right amount. One of my few concerns about this place...the price. Won't get too in depth about this aspect because overall, I really enjoy Goodkind and happy it is one of my neighborhood restaurants. read more

I had a really great experience here. The atmosphere is very relaxing; from the moment I walked in, I was able to begin unwinding from my long day. The menu looks simple, but it is far from it. Each meal is carefully planned and put together in a thoughtful manner. My drink of choice tonight was a white wine to pair nicely with my Alaskan Halibut, but I was very intrigued by the cocktail menu. The drink options were just as well thought out as the food options and there was not one thing on the menu that I did not want to try. If you are naturally indecisive and are still on the fence about whether or not to go, let me make the decision for you: GO TO GOODKIND! You can thank me later. read more

This place has one best bartender in the city. I not one for cocktails but Good Kind are some best in town. I meet but dont know Katie Rose bartender or mixologist which ever the more correct term. I finally made it here too! We were going to Lazy Susan at first but they were closed on a Monday. Goodkind has amazing hours and has always been on my want list. They are even open very late. It was around 5 and the dinner service had just started. The waitress we had was really awesome. I have to go look at the receipt for her name. The prices are comparable to Honey Pie. Kinda on the more expensive end. They are meant to be shared so be sure to come with friends to keep the cost down. They have small plates as well as entrees. We opted for the liver pate ($6) that came with crostinis and the fried oyster Champaign mushrooms.$12 Both were delicious! To drink I had the house brewed ginger beer. ($6.00) It was really strong at first but grew on me the more I drank. I shared the carbonara ($16) with my little one and my hubby opted for the scallops ($21). They could have used an extra minute but were also very good. All in all Goodkind is very good but bring your wallets. read more

Have been here many times, normally have good service and good drinks. Last night on our anniversary or waitress took 20 min just to get to our table, no apologies. Took forever to refill drinks...and take our order.. never asked how our food was... I understand what the service industry is going through right now, but witnessing every other table around us. Get prompt polite and good service from the other staff, made it very clear our crap service was very much our waitress and not a staff shortage issue. Really bummed because I like this place, but very hard to have any desire to return after that experience. read more
