Charm inside and out at the place. The exterior of the building is beautiful and the inside is so cozy. I love that they rotate their menu seasonally and hate it. Why? Because the brussel sprouts salad was amazing. The right amount was of sweetness, crunch, and zing. I loved the honey crisp apples and garlic dressing concoction. Thank you to whoever comes up with these ideas! Small plates and sharing is the way to go. In addition to the salad, we ordered the mushrooms which were fried and delicious, something that came with bread, cheese, olives and my memory is failing me but it was good! The chicken and duck confit croquettes were good! If it isn't obvious, the Brussels sprout salad was the star of the show for me. I know they are known for their craft cocktails but their craft beer menu is fantastic and so different! Kudos to Goodkind for going with beers outside the box like Coffenade, a coffee, lemonade, IPA by Evil Twin. Make a reservation and get yourself to Goodkind! read more

Goodkind is a great local Milwaukee option for any meal. The people there are nice, accommodating, and helpful. I'm a celiac and they go out of their way to make sure I can order almost anything on the menu which is nice of them. The space is nice, a little small so make sure you plan a head or are prepared to wait at the bar. In general it's cozy and laidback, so even if on a date don't feel like you need to get too dressy (but do get dressy if you want!). They have outdoor seating in the summer. I've been there with one other person or in a group as large as 6 and it's worked out. Some nights they have specials on wine. Their small plates, wine selections, and brunch are all amazing! I highly recommend checking it out! read more

We wanted to go out for a Friday dinner and decided to try a new place (for us). We like small plate places, so Goodkind it was! My wife made reservations but for some reason we arrived early. We decided to go in and ask if they would be able to seat us early. No problem!! We were seated in this cozy warm dining room at a small two person table which made it kinda romantic! We started off with the the creamy parmesan polenta (it is no longer on the menu) and the crispy brussel sprout salad. The polenta was absolutely some of the creamiest and best I have ever had. The brussel sprout salad was in a class of it own, I would love to have that recipe! Having being raised by an Australian mother I grew up on leg of lamb. Seeing the Lavender & Anchovy rubbed rotisserie leg of lamb, I was sold. My wife doesn't care too much for lamb but said that she was happy with the two small plates.. the lamb came! It was Just a plate with big chunks medium to medium-rare of fresh cut lamb off of the spit. I fell in love on sight. The best way I think I can describe the quality and flavor of the lamb is, that for somebody who doesn't really like lamb my wife gave me a run for my money eating this fantastic meal! P.S. The cocktails are also worth every penny! read more

My husband and I came here for the first time for a Saturday night date night. I called on the same day to make reservations and was told 8:30pm was the earliest time available. The hostess was very helpful and told me that we could probably be seated at the bar within 30 minutes of arrival without a reservation. We decided to wing it and arrived at 6:15pm and were seated immediately at the bar. What followed was one of the top 5 best meals we have ever had in any city. Cocktails - friendly bartenders serving fabulous hand mixed cocktails. My husband had their award winning Manhattan. First course - the Brussel sprout salad is unique and phenomenally delicious. My husband enjoyed some East Coast oysters. Main course - we ordered rotisserie, pork shoulder and lamb. The flavors were incredible, herb crust was crispy and prepared perfectly. Sides - beets and roasted vegetables. I could have eaten a whole plate of sides for my meal. Dessert/coffee - parsnip cake (a riff on carrot cake) was a seasonal special. Golden raisins, cream cheese frosting... yum. Decaf coffee was excellent. Reasons for making our top 5 best meals of all time: simple food executed perfectly, fabulous service, great ambience, delicious hand crafted cocktails, cool neighborhood location. We will definitely be back and plan to eat our way through their entire menu. read more

We stopped here for dinner on a Sunday evening, not knowing much about the place. We sat in a cute booth with lots of plants in the windowsill - how cute! I really enjoyed the ambiance. It's a tight space, but the bar areas adds a lot of additional seating. My sister had the spicy crab pasta and I had the veal stew. Both were delicious!! There was a generous amount of crab with her pasta, though it was cold which was a little weird with the warm pasta. My veal was tender, and the GIANT egg noodles it was served with were the best I've had in a long time. From reading more reviews, it seems like brunch is where this place really shines, so we hope to be back for that sometime soon! read more

I guess I'm just not s Goodkind kind of girl. We impulsively had a last minute splurge, after several years of austerity. Goodkind has been on my radar as I love spit roasted meat. It's small and seating is really uncomfortably tight. There is no privacy and the noise level made conversation impossible. The table was oddly cut; the length placed us too far apart. Craft cocktails were delicious. Appetizers exquisite. My roast leg of lamb was inedible. It was too tough to eat. It was served without a sharp knife. When I commented on how tough it was, the waitress offered no attempt to replace or remedy the dish. I took it home and after 8 hours in a slow cooker, I could finally chew it. Giving a 3 star rating based on seating, noise and inedible entree. It was a $200 tab that frankly wasn't worth it. read more

Wanted to like this, but in the end ...no. White with a couple for a date night and the guys really liked their meals. Cater tomorrow to do the food I would say for sure. Boozy cocktails and strange cuts of meat have your items just not at all appetizing. Even the salad seemed heavy. My girlfriend said that her dish of black cod looked "depressing". But I go again? Nope, too many other good places to try. read more

Goodkind - Deviled crab & egg salad with fried saltines - Bars Near Me - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

This just might be my new favorite restaurant. I'm not sure why it's taken so long for us to come here -- I've heard a lot about it (especially their brunch), so we made a point to finally go for a week night dinner. First off, the decor just screams Bayview. I love it. What a fun place, so eclectic and fun. Hipster-y, of course. We sat at the large bar to have dinner, as it was quite busy. Fine with us! We then ordered the Fried Tomatoes, Horseradish Risotto, and Caesar Salad. All three were outstanding. We were sufficiently full off of these three "small plates". Next time, we have our eye on the Spicy Crab Pasta, Oysters, and Mussels. We will be back to try more things, and order some of the fancy drinks they offer too. Thanks, GK! read more

The menu posted online is way better than the menu we were presented with on the night we visited. I'm sadly disappointed. Salads are ala cart but large enough to share. Entree Portions seem to be on the small side for the price. I had the ravioli. It was okay. The steak was rare as requested. The food was okay, not exceptional and with all the other offerings in Milwaukee I wouldn't return. The venue is small, clean and loud. The cocktails are exceptional. read more

Wow wow WOW. Truly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. It's been awhile since I've been to a restaurant where I was blown away by every.single.thing. The cocktails were SO flavorful & pungent (we got the strawberry thief & nostromo). For food we had the Caesar salad, linguini carbonara, and the spicy crab pasta. Each dish was packed full of flavor and the portions were generous. Cannot wait to go back to sample more cocktails and a different menu as it rotates frequently! read more

Cozier atmosphere than expected and a solid spot for deliciously flavored food. Chose Goodkind to celebrate my birthday and would definitely return. Atmosphere wise I didn't anticipate the bar having so much seating! You could definitely eat your meal at the bar and it would be a comfortable experience/perhaps even more private than some of the booths/tables. We were sat at a half booth that was a little tight to the tables on either side. Like the table nearly is touching the adjacent one. The seating isn't private in this area of the restaurant (area to the left of the entrance near the kitchen along the wall). Both parties that came and went who sat next to us we chatted with occasionally because of how close the tables are. This was probably a con for me- but this is dependent on where you're seated. Just something to think about if you're anticipating a more private dining experience for 2. On to the food - we shared the Caesar salad (4/5 - delicious dressing and anchovies with very large pieces of lettuce), Spicy Crab Bucatini (4.5/5 - enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I love crab but was curious how Dungeness crab would taste with a stronger flavored red/spicy sauce. It works and the portion of crab is large which is great - though the spicy pepperoni and sauce does dominate the subtle flavor of the crab), the Roasted Half Chicken (4.5/5 deliciously juicy and obviously well brined/seasoned. The fennel flavor is unique and balanced), and the Parmesan polenta (4/5 - tastes as expected but nice and cheesy). Overall would return, especially as the menu changes so regularly! read more

I recently visited Goodkind for the second time (the first was a couple weeks after opening). The dining room is small and dimly lit with a big bar down the middle. Perfect for a date night. We went in the opposite direction taking our three kids with us. We were able to make a reservation for 5 earlier that afternoon. My wife and I started with a cocktail from the very unique and wide ranging cocktail menu. I had the "award winning" Manhattan, which seemed like a mashup of a Manhattan and a sazerac. It was good. I had a second cocktail later which was a riff on a last word - the wry word - which was very good. We started with the fried chickpeas and chicken liver mouse. The chickpeas were fried nicely, but lacked a little flavor. The mouse was very smooth, but again lacked the normally flavor packed punch it usually delivers. We then ordered the brussel sprout salad with apple and blue cheese croutons, which was excellent, and the bone marrow with mushrooms, which again was a little less flavorful than I would have expected. For mains, we ordered the chicken and leg of lamb which were cooked on the rotisserie (which is what Goodkind is known). The chicken was excellent, moist, crunchy skin and flavor packed. The lamb was super fragrant with lavender and perfectly salted. The lamb did have a bit of gristle which made parts tough to eat and perhaps should have been trimmed before it was served. The restaurant also went out of its way to make the meal enjoyable for mom and dad by taking care of the kids. The kids had kiddie cocktails and the restaurant offered to cook noodles with butter or past sauce (we opted for the chicken instead). They also portioned out the chicken for the kids. I think I would have been around 3.5 stars, but bump it up for the service. read more

Considering that the people behind Goodkind were associated with Odd Duck, Roots and Burnhearts I had very high expectations going in - and for the most part, they were met. Interior: looks like someone's Pinterest had a little too much and threw up all over the place. I mean that in a fairly good way, but expect lots of "conscious quirky" going on. I do really like the William Morris wallpaper & the interior is a definite step up from the old Mama DiMarini's (known to me as "the DiMarini's with better pizza but the one that smells like urinal cake") Menu: they've got something for everyone. Adventurous? Veal heart carpaccio or lavender/anchovy lamb might suit. Vegetarian? They've got eggplant steaks for you. Feeling naughty? There's a "deep fried" section. Overall, it was a great mix of small & large plates, different proteins and varied preparations. A specialty here is the rotisserie (more on that later). Drinks: a well chosen beer & wine list are present, but you'll be sorely tempted by the dozen or so craft cocktail choices. They make their own ginger beer & bitters, so they're serious. I tried the Little Rose and the Goodnight West Coast, plus sips from some others and found the cocktails to be well balanced and delicious. FYI - if you're a Negroni drinker, they make the Negroniest Negroni ever. Either you'll love it or you really, really won't. Food: Chicken is often a throwawy dish at places, on the menu for the person who's like "ugggh, all of that is so weeeeiiirddd, I'll have the chicken." Not here - the house roasted rotisserie chicken is juicy, flavorful and all around amazing. Fried chickpeas make a tasty starter or snack, and the chicken liver mousse toasts were absolutely perfect. I also had a housemade pork pate that was "ok" - good texture but woefully underseasoned. FYI - the "fromage fort" is not, in fact, cheese in the shape of a fort (alas) but French for "strong cheese" - it's a little like blue cheese + quark & it's tasty. Service: really good, considering they were completely packed. Our server had great recommends and kept on top of our many questions & requests. Value: high. Like Odd Duck, prices for small plates are in the $8-13 range and large plates are around $20-25. Considering the quality and care that go into things here that's a great value. Overall: I shall return. read more

It's 2015. Time for a much needed update. The amazing team at Goodkind have nailed it. I come here a LOT. Once a week typically. Probably more. The menu is frequently changed to reflect seasonal availability. I've had majority of the menu including majority of the specials they have offered. Some huge winners for me are: Fennel pollen dry brined 1/2 chicken Anchovy crusted lamb Green peppercorn prime rib Pork loin Seaweed chips with pepper jelly Crispy Brussels sprout salad (this is a special and if it's on the menu.... GET IT) it's amazing. Caesar salad. Hell yes. Berliner currywurst with tomato chutney, lemon aioli. Yes. Yes yes and YES. The place is filled with the nicest group of people ever. Drinks..... They're amazing. I've had every single one on the menu. And 99% if the specials. I have a few favorites. And you should try them all and find yours. Katie Rose is a genius. Also one of the most sincere, lovely souls I've had the pleasure of knowing. Major major props to both the front and back of house. Paul and Lisa have this on major lockdown. The entire staff here is attentive, caring and truly lives up to its namesake. read more

My husband & went to Goodkind yesterday just to check it out because we live in Bay View & I've been reading about it for a while. We arrived around 5:30/6:00 and it wasn't super busy yet. We sat at the bar but it was a couple minutes before we were provided beverages but that's fine (I'm not too worried because I just has water). Everything on the menu looked super good that I couldn't decide what I want. I finally decided on the Spicy Dungeness Crab Bucatini with San Marzano Tomato, Ghost Pepperoni, Rapini and Basil Oil - it was fantastic! Everything in the dish just worked well together and the pepperoni added that little spicy kick to it. I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the calamari and he said he really enjoyed it. There were some deep fried lemon in the dish, which he had never had before but he said it was fantastic. For dessert, we ordered the stout chocolate cake (it had some kind of mousse on it but I can't remember)....and it was so delicious. I could eat it a couple times a week and I'm not a bit dessert/chocolate fan to begin with. I would definitely go back and try something else on the menu read more

We started off our night coming here for drinks, expecting to dine elsewhere. We ordered cocktails, Light As A Feather (gin cocktail) and Formidable Opponent (tequila cocktail), BOTH delicious and presented well. We smelled what the kitchen was cooking, and when our bar neighbors' Swedish Meatballs (yucame out, we changed our dining plans. The place is known for rotisserie, so we got the lamb (phenomenal), and at this point we were multiple cocktails in and lost track of the names of the dishes and drinks we consumed. Everything was delicious, and we're coming back soon. Part 2 Crispy Brussel Sprout Salad Refreshing, light, elegant. Sprouts done right, subtle apple and pecans. A lotta brussel sprout dishes depend on bacon to kick up the flavor, but this one was meat-free and delicious. Pork Belly-Apple Terrine Unique flavor, subtle candied-citrus undertones. A lot of apple, pork belly was scarce but cooked deliciously. Beautiful, tasty dish. Only thing I would've changed: a little more of that wonderful pork belly, or at least change the name of the dish to an Apple-Pork Belly Terrine instead. Creamy Mushrooms (side) Perfection Svizzerina An ultra-rare (tartare) burger with a quick sear. EXCELLENT Carrot Cake An unfortunately disappointing end to an otherwise wonderful meal. 2-3/5 stars on this one, it was pretty dry. Cocktails we've tried (all are 10/10): Formidable Opponent The Wry Word Poco Humo--warning: aperitif Sunrise on Sauselito--warning: sweet Ramblin' Rose read more

I was visiting Milwaukee from Phoenix, AZ and I was fortunate enough to be staying in the Bay View area. My boyfriend and I came across Goodkind and absolutely loved the look of it so we decided to make reservations for their brunch. I'm so glad we did! It was pretty busy, but because we had a reservation we were sat right away. Every single employee we encountered there was super friendly! There was an issue with my meal at first and they fixed it right away even though it wasn't even that big of a deal. They made me feel so welcomed. I ordered the avocado toast and my boyfriend ordered the breakfast sandwich on the Angel biscuit and both of us were blown away. The peppers and watermelon radishes on the avocado toast were such a nice touch and tasty! The bread was some of the tastiest bread I've had. It tasted fresh and had a nice sourdough flavor to it. Not only was the presentation spot on for both meals, but the flavors were completely unreal! I've already bookmarked this place on Yelp because I will definitely be returning! I also got the sangria and again the presentation and taste far exceeded any expectations I had going in. Goodkind really knows what they are doing and you can tell they take pride in their menu items. I can't wait to come back and visit! read more

My eating tour of Milwaukee continues and today's contestant was Goodkind! Great little spot in the bayview area. The ambiance is quaint, a bit country/rustic (is that considered hipster decor now?) with dim candle lighting. I sat alone at the bar and ordered a mocktail. The bartender went to work and brought me a bright freshly mocktail with some different ginger undertones in it. Yum! For dinner I had the split yellow pea soup which was a good solid soup though I wish I tasted more dill in it. The spicy crab bucatini pasta was da bomb! Ya, you read right....I typed da bomb! The crab was shredded on top. The only thing I would have changed was to have the crab in chunks vs. shredded but not a deal breaker for me. read more

Girl's Night Out last Thursday evening was a fun time at Goodkind. The service was excellent for our large group of women, despite the fact the place was packed inside and outside at the sidewalk tables. Apparently, there was a beer tasting happening at the bar, so that's cool. I had a good craft brew that I hadn't tried before (can't remember the name) and it came from a nitro tap. Yee Haw! I love nitro as it makes the head like whip cream. We shared the spicy chick peas for a starter and they were really good little crispy treats. Not sure what the spice was, but it tasted like sriracha. For the main course, I had the crab bucatini and it was delicious! There was a good helping of crab meat and the most delicious thick bites of a high quality pepperoni. The sauce was flavorful, but the pepperonis set it over the top. I wanted to try one of their desserts that looked so good, but no room. All in all, it was a fun night with good company and good food. read more

Excellent dining experience- attentive and friendly staff, pretty decor, and good tasting food. Very nice place for a date. I had the spicy crab pasta, which had a spicy red sauce and little bits of crab mixed in that went together nicely. I also tried the walleye that was a large piece and had a tasty sauce on top. I had one of their specialty beers that was different and worth the fair price. There is parking you can find on the sides of the restaurant, despite being close to downtown. Overall, a perfect place for Saturday night! read more

Seriously bringing it with some great vegan options. For a place whose claim to fame is its rotisserie, I have had some really great vegan options here. I had to update my review after my experience tonight because of a few things: 1) the food and drinks were even better than the first time 2) I found out the patio is dog-friendly 3) the chef make seitan to replace the tempeh in one of their veg entrees because they didn't get their tempeh delivery. OK, so really blown away by #3. Seitan can be a very unforgiving vegan meat. Most places get it wrong, and even places that serve it regularly often have problems with a consistent product. This seitan was nigh on perfect -- great texture, well-seasoned, all-around delicious. I just had to give the chef big vegan hugs and much respect from someone who knows that this is a culinary feat. Our service was fabulous (thanks Claire), all of the BF's meaty/nonvegan things were thoroughly enjoyed by him, and whoa, the barrel-aged version of a Singapore sling was goooood. so good. This place is really living up to the hype and producing some some seriously good things. I'll be a regular here for sure. The only downfall is that I spend so much money every time I go because I want to try everything! read more

Perfect place to go for our anniversary! Great service from the minute we walked in, a menu with a wide variety of options depending on the season, and a sweet atmosphere makes Goodkind a place I can't wait to go back to. The half chicken was flavorful and I would have eaten as many of the beets as they would give me. Don't skip on the dessert - the meringues looked amazing and we ended up with the chocolate stout cake which hit the spot, just sweet enough. We tried Goodkind on a Monday a two weeks ago. If you want a quiet intimate dinner setting then please go somewhere else or try to eat at one of the tables outside. It can be a bit loud but it is vibrant. We tried to some small plates and I have to say the eggplant dish was our favorite and had the best value for the taste. The other entrees were very good as well but I thought that the price/value was slightly off. The rotisserie plates that were coming out to other tables did look amazing...next time :) The cocktail menu is quite amazing and their beer selection is top notch. Our service was excellent and the décor is phenomenal. With all of the good restaurants opening I am sure they will continue to do well but the competition is getting very fierce in Milwaukee. I will go back again but I still rank AP (All Purpose) ahead of Goodkind for small plates. Another great restaurant to add to our city. read more

One of the things I love about Milwaukee is something that has virtually disappeared from the Chicago landscape - restaurants tucked into residential surroundings. We headed up to Milwaukee for a concert at the Marcus. We went up a day early to enjoy the food and bar scene in Milwaukee and chose Goodkind for dinner. We were pretty familiar with the area having stayed there last time we were in town. It's also about a block away from the recently re-opened At Random. The restaurant is cool, lots of great vintage light fixtures, a big bar in the center area tables tucked in everywhere else. Goodkind is the sister restaurant of Burnhearts, something our server told us, which made sense because they have a pretty great beer list too. We started out with the fried green tomatoes, which did not disappoint, and a few cocktails. The preparation of tomatoes was different than we'd ever imagine the dish, but quite delicious. I started out with the Wild Ides, a mezcal cocktail that I quite enjoyed. I forgot what the manfriend ordered to drink, but he was equally pleased. I forget what the manfriend got for his meal, it was one of the larger plates, but he also ordered a side of beets and I ordered the spicy crab pasta. I can't speak for his meal, but mine was pretty excellent even with my making one major mistake in ordering. I glanced over the fact that the dish had pepperoni in it, something I don't eat. Fortunately, the pieces of pepperoni were easily identified and I moved them over to the side of my plate. Our server noticed this and let me know that they're always happy to make dietary accommodations if asked. Even though we were pretty full, we decided to go for dessert and ordered the gateau basque. I wasn't completely bought into our choice, I'm a picky eater, but was happily proven wrong. It was excellent; almost like a sweet cookie-like angelfood cake with a fruity center. If I lived in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to go back. The food and friendliness of the service can't be beat. read more

Loved this hidden little Gem. I've been here twice now once for a full dinner and the other just for some craft cocktails, good beer, and a snack at the bar. The place is probably a bit "hipster" which shouldn't surprise given the area. Our servers were always helpful friendly and professional. Food comes out quickly form a small kitchen and everything I tried has been delicious. The decor is a bit of a mish mash, but then again it's still soft and appealing inside. I'll definitely go back. read more

Adorable atmosphere - lots of great details throughout the restaurant. Had a mozzarella and broccolini salad (spicy and delicious), mussels (great flavor), and bucatini with crab (good but not a ton of crab). Dessert was a walnut cake with kumquat ice cream and gourmet maraschinos. Server was friendly and made nice wine recommendations. Did have a reservation for a Friday 7 PM dinner. AH-MAZING. Went out with a friend on a weeknight for a special dinner. New places like this make me LOVE this city. We shared three dishes and a dessert. Clean-plated it all! The three dishes we had in order of deliciousness are: 1. Chanterelle Mushroom: omg I could order this a hundred times. The flavors were wonderful. 2. Crab Bucatini (minus the pepperoni): large(r) dish with good helping of crab 3. Salmon: I would not order this again. The Copper River salmon was out of this world, but the side (I can't remember even what it was) was not a hit with me. BEER! the beer menu is top notch. Small, but rare, special-beer-nerd choices. Value of food was spot on. We ordered three dishes, a dessert and two beers and spent maybe about $75. I don't love spending a ton on dinner, but this was worth it for sure. Service - the sweetest, most beautiful person was a wonderful addition to the experience. Decor was so fun. I loved all of the glass vases and fresh wildflowers. read more

I just recently tried goodkind a week ago and I have to tell you it is as good as people say it is. The food is awesome and the atmosphere is great. The staff is nice and friendly and will to help and explain any questions you might have. One amazing thing that I was able to do was get a flight of beer, it's not on the menu so you have to ask for it. I got 4 beers of my choice from their selection for $12 which is not that bad. I would definitely come here again for lunch and or dinner. read more

Goodkind is a decent restaurant. Food is flavorful, which I find many restaurants lacking these days. Some of the portion sizes are way off balance. Couple that with semi-spotty service is why it gets a 3 star rating. For the money there are other establishments that have better food and views overall. Speciality cocktails were also rather expensive, especially for a "neighborhood" joint. Appetizers: Burrata Cheese - Fried Green Tomatoes | Arugula | Mama lil's Red Peppers | Herb Tomato Water Blandest dish we had - 1 star Crisp Monterey Bay Calamari Sweet Onion | Basil | Lemon | Charred Scallion Re moulade Great breading, everything in it was deep fried including the lemons, very rich, dipping sauce was prime time - 4 stars, best dish of the night Main Course's: Spicy Crab Pasta - Bucatini | San Marzano Tomato | Dungeness Crab | Rapino | Pepperoni | Basil Oil Very flavorful, good amount of crab, great pasta FYI - I ate the rest of this my wife had because my "large plate dish" was so freaking tiny. Spaghetti Alla Carbonara - Pancetta | Pecora Nocciolata Cheese | Egg | Pea Shoots Pasta was great, lot's of flavor - absolutely scrumptious FYI again - Our guest ate his wife's' as his dish was oh so tiny Wild Caught Fillet - Sauerkraut stew | black trumpet mushrooms | bacon | creme fraiche |dill pollen One very, very small piece of fish. The sauce was excellent but could not even find a mushroom, we had to ask for bread - all in all a huge let down read more

SO GOOD! This was my first experience at Goodkind and I was very impressed! The vibe is so cool inside. We didn't have a reservation so we had to be put on the waitlist for bar seating but the bar seating added to the atmosphere because you could watch the bartenders make drinks. My drink was delightful and I can't wait to go back and try others! We split the Brussel sprouts salad which, was light and flavorful. For my entree I had the spicy crab pasta; it was delicious. Disclaimer it was not that spicy which was perfect for me but might not meet some people's expectations. For dessert we had one of the specials which was a parsnip carrot cake which added a fun twist to the traditional carrot cake. The service was great! It's on the pricier side but totally worth the price! I am excited to return! read more

A-maz-ing! One of my pet peeves is the whole "small plates" trend, so I was a little dubious about the menu, but a-ha! They also have large plates too. So we ordered small plates as apps and large plates as our main, and we were stuffed. The portion sizes (especially on the fried mushrooms and bucatini) were enormous for a restaurant like this with quality food. I liked the decor and feel of the place. Sure, it's kind of hipstery and Bohemian, but I don't feel that it's inauthentic here. I get the vibe, I like it. It's different. Maybe it's not your vibe, but that's ok. I don't think I could handle the vibe every week, but this is more of a special event kind of place for me anyway. The food was pretty awesome, but the cocktails were even better. Get the In the Rain on Royal St., you won't regret it. And one had me feeling good, even with all the pasta carbs. Nice. The mushrooms, while delicious and a massive shareable portion, had a rather heavy batter for such delicate mushrooms, meaning that you barely knew there were mushrooms under there. Perhaps a lighter tempura-type batter would be nicer, but hey, we still ate them. The romaine wedge salad was fantastic. It's kind of a re-imagined Midwestern salad with all familiar ingredients, but done really well and composed nicely on the plate. Great start to a meal. Bucatini with crab was fantastic, as others have said. Pepperoni is nice and spicy, and the pepperoni grease that coats the pasta in the tomato sauce is the bomb. It's not like it's a pool of grease, so don't be put off. People need to embrace delicious pepperoni grease more often. The wilted rapini was a little hard to deal with and cut, but eh, minor gripe. In short, go here. Go for cocktail happy hour weekdays 4-5 for $2 off all house cocktails. Yes, they are somewhat expensive, but they are genius and worth it, and you only need one or two anyway. I hope to make it back here for late night food since they serve until 1 am every day. read more

Bayview has some really great options for dinner and cocktails and Goodkind is one of them. Stopped in for a delicious dinner of a few choice small plates. Sat at the bar, our server was delightful and helped us make 3 balanced options: The soft cheese with olives- the olives were a mix and each one was dreamy, super glad that my dining partner wants nothing to do with them as I was able to devour each one! Cheese was great and I thought the portion was perfect. They also tell you at delivery that they will bring additional bread if necessary (which it was). Lentil and walnut fritters- Yum!! The texture of the fritter was so perfect!! Crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside. Served with a delicious/ fresh and surprising spicy side avocado. Calamari- while I think this was cooked perfectly (calamari was perfect and crunchy) it was a tad salty and a little off balance- just a little over breaded. I had a few drinks during the day, so just drank water. But watched the bartender prepare (with much care) a few beautiful cocktails that really interested me- adding them to the list of must try! read more

Pre covid I enjoyed this place. We went for lunch in February and unfortunately they did not have many options as I am dairy free. They did not have tea without caffeine either. We will keep trying as the location is great and I hope they continue read more

The midwest rules. Seriously. This is my third trip to Milwaukee in the past year and I've eaten at a number of fantastic spots. The dinner I had tonight at Goodkind was the best so far. The venison Osso Buco was so tender I didn't even need a knife. The Walleye Fingers were just perfect with the accompanying coleslaw. And, the split pea soup was the best SPS I've EVER had. I'm not kidding - just fantastic stuff. My one complaint - no dish was very hot. In fact, I really wanted the Osso Buco to be hotter. However, with that said, the food was so exceptional that it made up for any temperature variations. In addition to the food, the general dinning atmosphere is perfect. It has an old-timey feel - with a real "from another era" touch to the decor. The servers are all super sharp and know the menu very well. And - the beer and wine list are fantastic. I will be back in Milwaukee and I will eat here again. read more

First time there. Ask for missy she was awesome. She walked us the menu was patience and kind....and very helpful. Place has a very cool vibe. Wood, fresh flowers. Bathroom spotless. For those who don't know bathroom cleanliness equals kitchen cleanliness Food - fried green tomatoes with shrimp and great pasta sauce with veggies. Rotisserie chicken - fantastic. Parmesan polenta. So creamy. And flight of great beers. Final course was ricotta gnudi "nudie". Excellent. So good in fact bought a round for the kitchen as an extra tip. High life for all. A must go for Milwaukee. . Thank you again. I will be back. read more

Goodkind - Goodkind - Bars Near Me - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Friendly service but very limited menu and $12 cocktails were quite pricey as is the wine list! The roasted beets did not excite me at all but my spicy bucatini crab pasta was excellent! My friend ordered the leg of lamb and he was disappointed it had no mint jelly only a little bit of butter and he said it was under flavored. It was my second time there and the place is adorable... Great place for date night read more

This place has great food. What sets this place apart from others is it's unique/creative combinations of food. It's not unique, as in super stuffy and foods you don't know. It's just interesting combinations that I would never think of putting together, but they taste great. We ordered about 5 entrees, one appetizer, and a 2 deserts (and drinks). Each plate was really good and a first on all entrees. Good stuff. My only thought that I wasn't crazy about was the cost. I knew ahead of time what I was in for, but I don't know if it warrants the prices. I would go back once in a rare while, but generally speaking, the cost is going to steer me away from going more often. Small point to think about when going there: When you enter, it appears their front door is on the corner. It's a cool looking door with glass on top and a few entry steps to the door. It looks like it should be the entrance. It's not though. If you walk up like I did (and a few others I noticed), it's closed and you end up walking up, looking down on people eating. Go to the SIDE of the restaurant where the sign is. This may sound obvious, but a few people made the same mistake this night. read more

Amazing food and service. Everything about this place is perfection. One of my favorite places in MKE.
