We saw this place to try for Littles on the Go on Instagram and headed in because my kid's outdoor school got cancelled for today. He was entranced by the train facade and was excited to get sit in the restaurant. There were pictures of fishing and fish everywhere as well as stuffed fish. Felt like a cool and casual diner inside. We ordered the kids fried shrimp which came with a lot of fries and five fried shrimp which had a great batter on them. I got the fried green tomatoes which were delicious and it tasted like a homemade ranch it came with which my child promptly stuck his hand in because it was so loose and delicious. I got a cup of gumbo which our waiter, Jedediah informed me was 8oz and if I was getting something else then it should be enough. I got the shrimp and crab and one of them was partly cold when I got it out otherwise it was delicious. The crab was even still partly in a shell which made me realize it was the real deal. Iced tea was solid which I don't get to say that a lot because they're always usually diluted without a tea flavor but this one wasn't. We had excellent service from Jedediah and the restrooms were clean. Wait did I forget to talk about the parking? I'm in my old person years because I care about finding parking. I am visiting my sister in Texas and she had goode company BBQ waiting for us when we arrived. Everything was fantastic. The creamed corn was a little sweet but I never liked cream corn. Good Company is a staple for us. We love the food and service and frankly it never disappoints. Their breakfast is my favorite with a multitude of options: however, the breakfast tacos are my go to. Of course they get points for having fountain Dr. Pepper as well. Indoor and outdoor dining options available with quick service where you can order at the counter and quickly be brought your food. This Please yes overpriced and they charge you for every little thing I went in to get a hotdog that I seen was $5.99 I think but they charge me three dollars for a bacon three dollars for onions and the chili for the chili cheese dog was greasy and unseasoned! It also tasted funny they gave me cheese to put on a double hotdog and a little ketchup cup and my fries were undercooked and to add insult to injury My food came out to be $26 and they charge you a fee to back up your food if you are not eating inside of the restaurant . Another review I have been reluctant to write. Goode Company has been our go to place in Houston since 1990. Every Christmas Eve it was our family meeting place. Cannot tell you how many times I have introduced it to friends especially my snooty ones from Chicago who were simply blown away! I worked downtown and would often take business acquaintances. A change was noticed several years ago probably around the spring of 2020. The mesquite skewer fish mixed changed to three day old sordfish, salmon, and catfish from what was a variety of other fish especially the redfish and the drums. The campechana is now premixed instead of mixed when ordered. It has significant impact on the quality of the lump crab meat. A recent cup of seafood gumbo had a few shrimp and that was about it. I know everyone has a bad day but I have watched this degradation in quality for sometime. Others who don't know the place probably wouldn't notice but I do and it saddens me. It was the best place in Houston to eat seafood, hands down. Often the food is still good (not great) but the prices have soared beyond reason. With tax, a dozen fried oysters are now almost $50. I know hurricanes have had an impact but this seems unreasonable. Oysters in the winter are large and good but still over priced. In the summer, they are small, ordinary and definitely not worth the money. I hate to see such a great restaurant fail. Goode Company Seafood is a Houston institution, or it was once. How do I know this? From 11:30 to 1:00 everyday you needed a shoe horn to get into the place. No more. Others are noticing. Service: With one exception, the service has always been fantastic and I considered several to be friends. Seems to be a big change in staff in the last few years too. Lots of turnover. I have been going to the Goode Co restaurants since the 80's. BBQ and Seafood restaurants in the Kirby-Westpark area, but especially the Tacqueria. Every Sunday for breakfast at the Taqueria for 30 years + when in town. We now live out of town so when back we try to go there for lunch. My go to for lunch/dinner is the grilled catfish. About 4 months ago we were in town and I had my usual for dinner at the Taqueria, grilled catfish. About 2-3 hours later I came down with food poisoning, and all that that entails. Chalked it up to luck of the draw, because if you eat out at restaurants frequently you will eventually have something that doesn't agree with you. Last night I had dinner at the Taqueria. Grilled catfish dinner. Two hours later I came down with the worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. Once, bad luck, but twice with the same dish 4 months apart, no way. Clearly not keeping the fish (and other food) at the proper temp or past exp. date. Jim Goode would be disappointed in how his legacy is being handled. I will never eat at a Goode Co restaurant again. read more

I had the Texan Dog without the bun and a side of bacon collard greens. The hot dog had a great combination of flavor with avocado, Oaxaca cheese, refried black beans and creme fresh. The collard greens with the bacon were flavorful and not too salty! I cannot wait to come back and try another dog. We have been here several times and this time I was so shocked. The staff seemed rushed and not friendly at all. It seemed like they were racing instead of having a great time like last time. We order our drinks, Margaritas we had to actually wait a while and we had to ask for our drinks several times, hardly any liquor in our drinks and the glasses were so small. We order large ones the next round and still hardly any liquor and they did not even fill to top but hell they sure charged us. Next, we ordered oyster on the half shell, for $25.00 they were so small, they should not even sell them period. When our food came the shrimp empanadas were so tasteless and no dipping sauce like last time. We ask our waiter but then he just us that we have to ask for it. I said OKAY due to the fact that we were almost through with it. When our food came out it was not even hot and when I first tasted my shrimp rice, it had a hair in it. I was so disgusted I lost my appetite. I told our waiter, and he did take it away and asked if I wanted something else. I guess he told he manager because he came over and apologized. He did take it off our ticket but still he seemed very angry. I will not be going here again. I don't mind paying for good food, but this place has really gone downhill. The staff was not friendly, and the food sucked for the amount that we paid. We had to also constantly asked for refills and he never actually would come by and asked if we needed anything. Oh, yea we got no bread and butter. Doesn't that come free with our meal. So sad it use to be my once a month nice place to eat and drink. No MORE skip this place. read more
