The variety and creativity is definitely there, but the hoppy beers tasted a little oxidized and some of the sour fruit beers were a little over-the-top (more like a smoothie than a beer) for me. Solid people and beers. The husband and wife duo I spoke with were gracious and knowledgeable. The labels and artwork remind me a bit of Small Town/Not Your Father's- but don't let that distract you and don't pass judgment before tasting. This is real beer for beer drinkers. I don't throw around the work Craftsman too often, but Craftsman they are. They take old world qualities and bring them to modern tastes. Off Kilter surpasses many of the small home town breweries in the Midwest with the thought and quality they bring to the glass. If you like Kenosha's Public Brewing, Milwaukee's Mobcraft, or Michigan's Vivant and Perrin you'll enjoy Off Kilter's offerings. I had the O Do Yah and One Eyed Jack. Both were great. We were impressed by the Gray's root beer and ginger beer. Love them serving truly local brewed sodas. The root beer was a little vanilla heavy but I liked it because I don't like most root beer. The ginger brew was EXCELLENT, and I know my ginger beers. Now I have to find out where I can buy it. We consider ourselves calamari aficianados (self-proclained, of course.). We were stoked to try it based on all of the rave reviews. Alas, this is the dish that most drop the rating for us. The calamari pieces were very small, very tough and the batter blew off. Weirdly, it showed up so close to our ordering it that I wondered if something was wrong. Was the oil so hot that the usual cook time was now too long? We're they trying a new vendor and these very small pieces cooked WAY to fast. In any case, I suggest they relook at the quality control on that dish. Below I send a photo of all the batter that fell off in the serving dish. It was a nice sized order and tasted like very good rubbery, miniature calamari. My husband ordered the pork chop and it was delicious. It was so moist and I didn't know whether that was due to brining, sous vide, bone in, or just the best preparation I've ever had.
