I was in town visiting family when they suggested we come to this great Winery! It's a historic building dating back into the 1800s. We had a fantastic charcuterie board and the four of us did wine flights picking out the particular wines we wanted to try. This is also home of Rubber Ducky winery (they bought the north leaf winery). Super cute place that is currently expanding to have all sorts of different experiences. The winery has many varieties of wine and a membership program which is very reasonable. Staff is upbeat and friendly, It is located in a historic building which is super cute! We did the ""super tasting" which was a very small taste of every one of their wines. The gentleman that walked us through the experience was fun and made it really enjoyable. I was there with a friend but others participated in the tasting as well and they were a fun group! They serve food (sandwiches, flat bread pizza) and have charcuterie boards for purchase as well. We did a cranberry chicken sandwich and a pretzel cheese plate. Both were very good! Besides wine they had canned items and cheese/sausage on sale as well. While the wine selection leans more dry overall for my super sweet taste, the staff and atmosphere are fantastic. And if you, like me, need something sweeter, get the wine slush. We had the berry slush which was yummy. But if you want to take it up a notch, I HIGHLY recommend the PB&J slushie. A concord grape slush with a shot of PB whiskey, is sooooo good. Live music outside on Fridays is a lot of fun. And the market goodie out back are super fresh and delicious and reasonably priced! read more

I've been here a couple of times now and I like it better each time. I'm glad I waited to give my review because initially, this would have been a 2 star review. The service was god awful the first time, but the wine is REALLY REALLY REALLY good. The second time was so much better. The staff seemed a bit more friendly and the wine was still REALLY REALLY REALLY good. They have half glass tastings for $10 which you really can't beat. Things I really like: The wine (obvi) Atmosphere Price They also offer light winery food and wine slushies! The company itself strives to be super green too. This was a cute wine tasting room! So many wines to choose from and they have a ton of merchandise for winos alike. We did flight tastings which were reasonably priced. $10 to try 4 half glasses of wine so we got 2 to split in between us. We definitely had some favorites like the Tropical Viognier. It smelled like a tropical beach vacation and tasted like it too. We also got a cheese and crackers board which my fiancé fell in love with the homemade jams they have there, we brought a jar of one home. My only downfalls to this charming place was that I wish we could of sat outside on that gorgeous patio but sadly for us it was down pouring rain, and that we could of caught some kind of event going on, it was a little dead for a Wednesday. read more

Went here for a bridal shower, the space was tight and they had trivia going on across the room, so it was kind of loud for a Sunday afternoon. We ended up taking our drinks outside to the patio, which was very nice. We were able to order snacks (cheese & crackers). The cheeses were great, I bought some to take home. The wine was also great and reasonably priced. A tasting is only $5 for 4 samples, which is a great deal. We had a larger group, so the sampling was a bit disorganized. They brought the bottles around in the order they were listed, but they were grouped together (sweet white, dry whites, dry reds, etc.) so if you are a person who prefers a certain type of wine, you felt pressured to drink the samples quickly as they were bringing all of that group out one right after the other. They had a good variety and I liked the wines, I just wouldn't recommend this for a group larger than 4 people. They also only accepted cash, so keep this in mind! read more

A family reunion at Blackhawk campground landed us in Milton, WI. How do you deal with 5 straight days of family? A wine tasting of course. You are served 4 complimentary wines of your choosing and can add other samplings at $1 each or 6 for $4.50. Of course I went for the 6. Most of them were very delicious. There was a variety of reds/whites, dry/sweet/ semi-sweet, ports and several limited varietals. Wheat thins are served as palette cleansers, but also for sale are fruit and cheese plates. The wine steward was very nice and really knew the wines and the history behind them and the building. Renovated wheat warehouse makes for a very cool setting. We had 12 in our group and she was totally on the ball keeping our sample glasses filled with each of our next choices. We walked out with about 20 bottles of wine between us all and enjoyed 1/2 of them by campfire that night. read more

We are new to the area, from California, and we were driving around and came upon Northleaf Winery. It was late and we had not had lunch, so we stopped at the bistro. Our timing was perfect as the lunch crowd had passed. This was nice, we told them it was our first visit, and since they were not busy they were happy to tell us all about their food. They got my attention when they said "we bake all our own bread here daily", wow. I ordered the turkey on cranberry walnut bread. It was not to disappoint. The bread was delightful. I bake bread at home at least once a week, but never dense walnut style bread, so it was a nice treat. After lunch we walked about 50 feet to the winery. The woman there was very busy putting together tasting trays for an evening event, but tried to make a little time to explain about the wines. The flavors were truly strange to us. We purchased 4 bottles and brought them home. We have found these interesting blends are refreshing summer wines. In all fairness to Wisconsin wineries, they shouldn't be compared to Napa, Sonoma, Carmel Valley or even Italian wines. They were bizarre to us, because we never experienced them. When my husband and I arrived here, we were considering not going in. The front of the winery is a bit rough. The name on the front is mostly gone and you enter through the side door. Once you get inside, it's a bit cramped. The staff was friendly and helped us with finding and sampling wines we would like. The winery is not very big so if you're the type of person / couple who like to go on tours of the winery prior to tasting / sampling some wine then I would pass on this one. We bought 2 bottles of wine and both were reasonably priced. I don't think we will frequent this particular winery very often. We did not go across the driveway to the bistro so I can't comment on that. My rating is purely based on the winery. read more

A nice way to sample wines. After spending a week trying more than a dozen of wineries in the state. I must say the serving size and way was by far the best. One of my absolute favorite places to go and my favorite wines to drink. The wine made here is delicious and I would encourage you to try a flight. If you love sweets, the wine and chocolate pairings are insanely good and you will get a choice of dry or sweet wines. Try this! Your palate will thank you!! The Tap Room at Northleaf is open right next door now, if you have taste for a cold beer on draft. There are excellent regional beers available and waiting for you. Decided to stop at the Northleaf Winery on the way to the Wis Dells after reading about it in a Wineries of Wisconsin brochure. So glad we did. Really good, unique wines. We loved the Pomegranate and Green Apple wines. The woman at the tasting bar was really friendly and gave us detailed descriptions of the wines. We went on a Friday night before they even got busy and it was very disappointing. The service was terrible (rude, unhelpful, and inattentive). The wine was mediocre, at best. Who knew that there's a winery so close to Madison (other than Wollesheim)? About 40 min from Madison, and whoa, delicious wine, friendly people, and more delicious wine. The charming Northleaf winery is housed in a converted old mill house. The owners certainly did a fantastic job in preserving the old structure during the renovation. The tasting is complementary. There's also no pressuring from the staff to buy a bottle after the sampling. But I think you can find at least one bottle you'd like to take home. Northleaf offers a variety of wine - from sweet to refreshing dry. All bottles are in $10-$20 range, so you can enjoy few bottles without breaking the bank. I picked up a bottle of cranberry wine (a perfect gift for the upcoming Christmas season). On my next visit, I think I'll get a case of it. read more

What a charming little winery! We were sent here by a woman working at Staller Winery, and we were so glad we made the 20ish minute trip out to Milton. The winery is an old mill house and they definitely took great pains to preserve the existing structure. The beams are exposed and you can see an old storage area above the wine tastings. They have decorated it in a way that makes you feel like you're going back in time (in a good way). You're allowed 5 tastings for free, so my husband and I picked different ones and we each tried 10. The wines are very good. Not surprisingly, I really liked the riesling, but I was surprised that I liked their merlot so much. Usually, it's too strong for me, but I really liked this blend. The bottles are pretty reasonable - I think most are around the $15 mark. We didn't do any of this, but there are winery tours you can go on and they do allow parties or other gatherings there. We saw a table set up for two ladies who were going to be painting ceramics while enjoying a cheese plate and drinking some wine. It would be a fun place to do that. It's a bit of a haul from Lake Geneva, so I'm not sure I would have gone if I hadn't already been planning to go to Staller Winery, but the drive was worth it. read more

Used a Groupon and would have never found this place without hearing about it through Groupon. We have never been treated so well while using a Groupon and found the food, service, atmosphere and wines to be very good. The training of the staff is exceptional. While this is a one hour drive for us, we plan to return without a Groupon because they really provide a great experience and appreciate their customers. In the bistro, all four of us had a salad and sandwhich combo that was tasty and well made. Love the efficiency of their small kitchen and freshness of all the food. The bread was outstanding. In the wine tasting room they pre set up the tasting with in house made chocolates. The chocolates were all great and the wines showed great variety from the wine maker. We did not love all the wines, but that was just fine as we appreciated the variety and the appeal to a broad range of tastes. Our favorite wine was the Zinfandel. You can have a cheese or chocolate pairing, paint a wine glass, or make wine glass charms. Had a groupon and went for their wine and chocolate pairings. First stop was the bistro for a nice lunch. I was impressed with the food. Breads are home made. I had the turkey on cranberry walnut bread. It was large enough that I took 1/2 the sandwich home. My friend enjoyed a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a roast beef sandwich on a onion dill bread. His 1/2 sandwich again, was very large. It was a cute place and we were able to roam around looking at books and food stuff for sale. The tasting room attendant had everything laid out for us and answered all our questions. The winery was attractively decorated as others have pointed out. I'm not a big fan of Wisconsin wines, but took home a bottle. They also do parties. They were preparing for a bachelorette party while we were there. My fiance and I went after we bought the groupon. We didn't know we needed to make a reservation (our fault for not reading the fine print) so we couldn't use it, but we decided to stay for a tasting and lunch anyway. No one seemed to want to talk to us, about the wine or anything else, which made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. When we had lunch at the bistro, they got my order wrong, and seriously, a cold, never-been-toasted sandwich is not a panini. We were so turned off by the whole experience, we might just use the groupon for the price it cost and get a couple bottles of wine - at least they were pretty good. Overall, there are enough wineries in the area that this one hardly seems worth it. read more

My husband, a friend, and myself all stayed in the Guest House over the July 4 weekend. It was such a fantastic experience! The Guest House is a full, two-bedroom apartment located above the bistro (the bistro is across the parking lot from the winery, owned by the same lovely woman). It was very spacious. Really well decorated. Very comfortable. One large room with a king-sized bed. Connected to this room was a small sitting room with a daybed. A second, smaller room containing a twin-size bed is located beyond the living room and full kitchen. One bathroom with an awesome tub and massaging showerhead. And there is even a washer and dryer. We ate at the bistro a number of times during our stay - mainly because the food was really great! The bistro offers an array of sandwiches, soups, salads, and quiche. Everything we had tasted amazing. The bistro also offers a number of items for purchase - from decorated plates and glasses to artisan cheeses and sausages. And, of course, you can also purchase bottles of their wine. The winery is in a beautiful, old building. The decor was beautiful. The wines were fantastic. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. We loved the wine so much we left with a case! We highly recommend Northleaf Winery and Bistro. They exceeded our expectations. We are already planning a return trip! read more
