We had an awesome experience at Drafthouse! Nice corner spot in downtown Janesville and super nice interior. There are stairs to get in the front, but it is level in the back where there is a parking lot as well! Our server was super nice and treated us well. They have pretty good beer list, but have a huge wine list surprisingly. They have many cocktails to choose from too! Our food was all delicious. They have a variety of options that span from fairly priced elevated "bar food" to gourmet dishes. The cheese curds came as cubes and were delicious! Super fun take on the traditional, and a must have for a bar in Wisconsin. For meals we got the hot honey chicken sandwich, tai chicken flatbread on cauliflower crust, lobster ravioli and DH burger! Asked for suggestions in the area and ended up here - so glad that we did! We sat at the bar and our bar tender was amazing - she was spot on for beer suggestions and dessert (raspberry white chocolate cheesecake). Food was sub-par. Took the wife and kids for lunch after a family event. The burger didn't have the bacon as described and was rare when asked for medium. just passing through town, and as always, turned to Yelp. I would like to give 5 stars to bring up the rating up because I think they're a 4.5 star restaurant. We were impressed by the Gray's root beer and ginger beer. Love them serving truly local brewed sodas. The root beer was a little vanilla heavy but I liked it because I don't like most root beer. The ginger brew was EXCELLENT, and I know my ginger beers. Now I have to find out where I can buy it. We consider ourselves calamari aficianados (self-proclained, of course.). We were stoked to try it based on all of the rave reviews. Alas, this is the dish that most drop the rating for us. The calamari pieces were very small, very tough and the batter blew off. Weirdly, it showed up so close to our ordering it that I wondered if something was wrong. Was the oil so hot that the usual cook time was now too long? We're they trying a new vendor and these very small pieces cooked WAY to fast. In any case, I suggest they relook at the quality control on that dish. Below I send a photo of all the batter that fell off in the serving dish. It was a nice sized order and tasted like very good rubbery, miniature calamari. My husband ordered the pork chop and it was delicious. It was so moist and I didn't know whether that was due to brining, sous vide, bone in, or just the best preparation I've ever had. And his plate was full of potatoes and brussel sprouts. Couldn't have been happier. I had the walleye (only on Fridays) and it was a beautiful, thick fillet cooked to perfection. The potatoes were delicious, albeit not as pesto as I expected. But skin on and purple potatoes showed me a commitment to quality ingredients. There was also a nice slaw on my plate. I like that their plates had a starch and a vegetable; kind of like the restaurant days of old. No nickel and diming the customer with ordering all your sides. Heck, skin on potatoes and the more-nutricious purple potatoes are like vegetables as well. Service was great and the restaurant was nice and warm despite it being a very cold day. That means a lot to me as an "older" customer We will definitely come back and even maybe try the calamari because our tiny ringlets and tentacles didn't look like any of photos I have seen. read more

Randomly picked a spot to try and was not disappointed. Planned to have lunch but we're there in time for the brunch menu which sounded really good. The chicken and waffles were really good. The potatoes were fantastic. I have the lemon Bean drop I believe it was called. It was really good if you like a sweet drink. I thought it was really good but it's much sweeter than your standard lemon drop martini which are often too tart for my preference. And all the desserts sounded fantastic. I was super full as the entree serving was very generous but I HAD to try the lemon cake. It was really good. Lots of flavor. And perfect cake to frosting ratio for me. We will definitely be back to try many of the other things that sounded good. They had several tables arrive at the same time so the drinks took a minute to come out but nothing crazy. Great place, but just don't try them for steaks. I hate leaving a bad review but I really heavily on Yelp while traveling a lot and I'd want to know this stuff. Drinks and apps were awesome - duck wontons and unique curds were both hits, pretzel was atop salty miss. One steak was good, proper medium rare NYS. Pittsburgh NYS came out medium well. Second attempt was proper rare temp but a bad idea since it was very Choice cut - won't try that again if not Prime. Dry aged filet was also MW when ordered MR. Temp was okay second time but colleague said it tasted like it had carne asada or some other Mexican seasoning on it (nor a good taste profile for dry aged, right?). They were really nice, though, and wolves done more but Was not thee right situation to get into that discussion with them. I Pork chop was also overcooked but my customer was hungry and didn't want to send it back. was also surprised they didn't even offer a free dessert for the troubles. I'm came here while looking for a restaurant in Janesville to meet my parents at. I loved their menu! The food was incredible. It was so good I didn't take pictures... oops! I got the Seared Tuna bowl and it was delicious. Super fresh and filling. My dad got the duck breast and he practically licked the plate. My mom got the Chicken tenders which she raved about. She said they were hand breaded, which was rare. Our server was lovely. She listened and laughed when my dad made silly jokes which was appreciated. The building is surprising. Overpriced small portions with the blandest of flavours. And why are the majority of seats stools?

The evening started with watching a family of six with two small children get seated near us. After they were settled, the waiter came over and informed them that the space had already been reserved for another party. With no suitable seating elsewhere in the restaurant they were sent on their way to try to find another restaurant. They left never knowing how fortunate they were. Our order was taken by an overly attentive waiter who took forever it seemed explaining their drink specials. Likewise, he spent an inordinate amount of time explaining their two entree specials. When our food came, both came with rice that was undercooked to the point of being crunchy. We we brought this to their attention they apologized and brought out a bowl of the rice that was equally underdone. They apologized again but did nothing to remedy it. I was surprised they didn't offer to adjust the bill (we didn't ask them to but I would expect they would offer something). The 'cheese curds' were basically cubes of, i'm guessing mozzarella, with light breading. Ok, but def not cheese curds. Like, have they not ever seen what that food really is? My main dish was straight up awful, served with sauteed frozen vegetables. Not much seasoning other than LOTS of salt. My dinner partner's pasta tasted like it had been cooked a while ago and nuked. After navigating the construction zone we made it to the host stand. Though it was far from full we were given two unattractive table choices so we opted for the bar which is quite large and uncrowded. The bartenders were helpful and super friendly. We tried a couple of local brews which were good. For dinner I opted for a flatbread, which I rarely ever order. This one with candied bacon, braised onions, mushrooms and garlic creama was very good though the bread was a bit thick and chewy for my taste. My wife ordered the blackened salmon BLT which despite the thinness of the salmon was done medium so it was moist not dry. She really enjoyed her meal. The fries were quite good too. We have been to drafthouse many times and have been satisfied with both the service and the food every time. That is, until this past Saturday evening. My wife & I ordered our meals & drinks and they were brought out in quick fashion. The food looked and smelled delicious, but there was 1 small problem. I had ordered a filet mignon with mushrooms. What was brought out to me was a "feature" filet special with multiple additional items including crab cakes & lobster tail. I had specifically pointed out on the menu the standard filet that I wanted when I ordered. Easy fix, right? All they had to do was say "I'm sorry sir, we'll make sure you don't get charged for the extras that you didn't order." Rather than do that, my plate was taken & I was told they would "fix it". This left my wife with the uncomfortable choice of either eating her meal alone, or wait the 15-20 minutes to replace my meal, by which time her food would be cold. Here's where things really went south. When my "new" plate was brought out, the meat was completely dried out. Not a single drop of juice when cutting into a medium-rare filet could only mean 1 thing, it was the same piece of steak from the 1st plate that was just sitting under a warming lamp for 15 minutes while they re-plated it properly without the add-ons. When the server inquired I pointed this out. She swore they would never do that, but had to admit that the filet was incredibly dry. She then proceeded to send over a manager who decided that the way he would "fix" our ruined $120 Valentine's Day dinner was by offering to comp me a $4 sliver of cheesecake. I have no ill will toward the server, it was absolutely just an honest mistake on her part and she was very apologetic about it. That is why I still tipped her well on the bill. But the complete tone deaf response & lack of customer service from the manager was enough to leave a bad taste in our mouths for a long time to come. read more

I had never been to DraftHouse before, and when someone described it to me I thought it'd be a lot less classy than it was. I thought we were just going to a grimy bar for food. This restaurant seems to be in need of some work with their service. Used to be fantastic. Tonight, tried to go to dinner, sat at the bar and waited ten minutes before leaving. A nice find in downtown Janesville! We stopped after strolling the farmers market because they had outdoor seating available. I was happy to see everything being sanitized, disposable menus and everyone in masks. The brunch menu is short and sweet - some breakfast items, some sandwiches. We started with their version of cheese curds ($9?) which were excellent - surprisingly light and not at all greasy. They have an interesting breading that reminded us of garlic bread (in a good way) - definitely get these. The Mister had a burger (hand formed) that was cooked medium as requested.
