I'm the only one in my family that truly appreciates this place. The fiancé and kids are whining that we could have had McDonald's and they would have been ok. I disagree. I'm so happy I tried this place! It's easily in my top 3 burger spots! The prez Obama burger was SO GOOD. That marriage of flavors between the onions, cheese and sauce was insane. For a quick and easy burger place? Its 4 stars. They have a wide variety of custom burgers on the menu and the option to make your own. They also have veggie and other adaptable options plus some of the most delicious shakes around. Its a tad pricier than the Ckic-fil-A on the same block but the burgers here are think and juicy and the toppings are mostly fresh and ample-this is definitely a better option--plus they have a bunch of creative and tasty sauces for the burgers or fries. read more

I love this restaurant - the hamburgers are fresh and tasty and you get lots of options to choose from. Their dipping sauces are AMAZING! I also really like the modern/hip interior and the fact that there are plenty of places to sit. My bf and I visited on a Friday evening back in early February and we found a great table. We were also able to watch the Olympics Opening Ceremony on their large-screen tvs. I ordered the Prez Obama burger again, as I had last time (when I visited the Capitol Hill location about 2 years ago), and it was really tasty. It came with: Applewood Bacon, Onion Marmalade, Roquefort Cheese & Delicious Horseradish Mayo Sauce. It was decently priced too (around $7). We also ordered a large side of rosemary fries (get the larger size, as the small size is not enough to share for two). The rosemary fries were perfectly garnished with rosemary and some garlic. You have several dipping sauces to choose from, including sriracha mayo (my personal favorite), chipotle mayo, Old Bay mayo, and mango mayo (least favorite). I actually prefer this location to the Capitol Hill location, as it's not as crazy busy and it has a nicer ambiance. It's located conveniently in the Crystal City Underground shopping center. I decided to head to DCA a bit early so I could check out Good Stuff Eatery in Crystal City, and it was definitely worth rolling out well ahead of flight time for. I had the Michelle Melt Free-Range Turkey Burger, and it was one of the best turkey burgers I've had in quite some time - moist, juicy, and flavorful. The burger is served with caramelized onions, Swiss, tomato, lettuce, all on a very nice whole wheat bun. (It also comes with a special mayo that I skipped.) The only thing I can really pick at was that the caramelized onions were actually too much on the sweet side, which surprised me since caramelized onions usually aren't overly sweet - perhaps it's just the way they're prepared or the kind of onions they use, but that extra sweetness took a little bit away from what was otherwise a great turkey burger. The fries are prepared to order and very much reminded me of Thrasher's in Rehoboth - skin-on, piping hot, and most excellent with Good Stuff's horseradish sauce. If you have a little bit of extra time next time you're headed to National, make the very easy detour onto Crystal Drive and check Spike's new place out - it definitely beats out the vast majority of food options inside the airport! read more

I ended up with plain fries and was really looking forward to the rosemary but they were still really good. The burger was delicious but I would have preferred an egg with a runny yolk. I am over-the-top impressed with the customer service here - a business can best be described by how it treats unhappy customers. Of all the cheflebrities whose stylez and profilez have caught my culinary eye, Mendelsohn wasn't one of them. Not sure why, exactly; he carries the right amount of swagger, a ton of talent and some visually stunning grub. So, on discovery of Good Stuff, the sudden and overpowering urge to get a Spike-sanctioned burger overcame. We ventured forth. Institutional, stark whites with splashes of bold contrast, the interior transports to a high art exhibit in the 80s. Take it as you will. Went with the Free Range Turkey Burger - bird patty topped with avocado, Muenster, L & T on a whole wheat bun. Unlike critics of the beef burgs, I was completely satisfied with the portion, and found the protein to be extremely well-seasoned. Foresake the cow, critics - the bird is the word. The rest of the meal idled in mediocre: Spike's Village Fries just swam in rosemary, rendering the medium (whether it be hand-cut spuds or water-soaked toothpicks) inconsequential. To the fry daddy: hold back on the herbs. On the opposite end of flavor overload, the Milky Way Malt is thick and sweet, but lacking any real flavor. The ice cream spackled the tongue with fat, so much so that the subtle malt, cocoa and even caramel couldn't shine through. Note: the caramel was a substitution for the standard butterscotch. No strike to the wizards behind the shake's composition, but to call something a Milky Way fill-in-the-blank and not include caramel is sweet sacrilege. Price, while higher than your Five Guys, is right set, based on meat & produce sourcing. A thousand flavored aiolis, from Sriracha to Old Bay, are there to zest up your pleasure, and self-serve soda fountains mean unlimited refills. Worth a stop. read more

On a work trip from out of town, I was stuck in Crystal City surrounded by the likes of Noodles & Company and Cosi. Where could I go to get something that I missed since moving to the Pacific NW last year? Then I spied Good Stuff Eatery and We The Pizza - yesss, Spike's places only found in the metro DC area! It was a tough call, but since the pizza is surprisingly fabulous in the PNW, I decided to go for a burger. I wish I could say the Bacon Farmhouse burger I had was as transcendingly good as the one I'd experienced before at the Capitol Hill location. Unfortunately, the bread was hard, the burger was overcooked (no juiciness) and toppings unevenly distributed. It was still a fine burger, but nothing about it made me label it the best burger in DC (as I had last time I had a Good Stuff Eatery burger). There was no line when I went, so rushing for a crowd was not even an excuse. I still loved the Sriracha mayo and the fries were pretty good despite looking burnt. Really great tasting juicy beef patty, applewood bacon, onion marmalade, Roquefort, and horseradish mayo, what else do you need?!?! There's sweet, salty, a little pucker, and a lot of umami. Ugh, I really need to go back. Finally, the Drinks-- this was the one disappointment. I had the Milky Way Malt and the Root Beer float. The Milky Way Malt was better, but both of them were waaayyy too sweet. I finished my shake, but I only drank half of the float. So here's the thing with this place...i can't give it a bad review because the food is solidly good. It is fresh. Is it worth the little bit higher price than other places? IMO, No. In all fairness the menu is outside & you ultimately decide. Be prepared when you order at the counter for the cashier to point to the screen to "encourage" you to tip. Its uncomfortable and hard to get around that direct request. Tip for what exactly? You get you own food and bus your own tables. Full disclosure-This was my main turn-off. They have fun condiments to choose from but other than that I can't really say the food was worth the price. If you are a tourist with a family wanting a quick bite you might want to try the neighboring Chick-fil-A or Chipotle. You'll even get a larger, fresh salad for the same price at SweetGreen a few doors down. I've been to Good Stuff in Capitol Hill and Georgetown, so I had an expectation that the food here would be good. Even with the lunch rush, they're quick, accurate with orders, etc. I've had the mushroom burger and the turkey burger so far. Both are good, though it's not a light meal and you risk having it sink to your stomach later. I do love the shakes here. Ok, the milkshakes are pretty fantastic, but the burgers are just giant balls of grease. Seriously these must be the greasiest burgers around. Last time I went, my pregnant self was craving the portobello burger (known as the 'shroom) and was super disappointed to see that it's "coating of panko crumbs" was really code for "crazy deep fried with insane amounts of breading". It was waaaaay too much for me to handle, and even though I couldn't finish it all, I ended up throwing it all up later. My go to meal here is the Big Stuff Bacon Meltdown (bacon cheeseburger with double patty, lots'a bacon, double cheese, ruby tomato, onions, lettuce, and pickles with Good Stuff sauce) with Spike's Village Fries (handcut fries topped with fresh thyme, rosemary, and sea salt). Everything is made with delicious farm fresh ingredients and that's what makes the food here so good. They use quality beef and you can definitely taste the difference. Also worth mentioning is the variety of dipping sauces offered at the sauce bar where you can dip to your hearts' content. Besides ketchup and mustard, there is also different flavored mayos, including chipotle, mango, old bay, and sriracha. My personal favorites are the mango and sriracha mayos - so tasty! I mainly came to Good Stuff for the toasted marshmallow milkshake. I'm a huge fan of all things s'mores, so after seeing the enticing photo in Washingtonian Magazine, I knew I had to check it out while I was in DC. The huge communal table seems like a fun space to eat with several other people, and the counter top seating in the window was nice as well. My mom and I shared the traditional cheeseburger and hand cut fries, both of which were cooked perfectly and really flavorful. I couldn't believe how hot and crispy the fries were, especially considering they came in a bag. The fries were a little over-salted for my taste, though, and later in the day I was drinking water nonstop to compensate for it. The condiment bar was fun, and I ended up bringing home some Old Bay mayo for my sister to try. Overall, I would come back to try some of the different specialty burgers. They weren't as greasy as Five Guys or Johnny Rockets, which I liked, and the lettuce, tomato, and onion were all really fresh, not just slapped on as an afterthought. Now, on to the real show-stopper, the shake. I have to admit, the flavor and texture were spot-on, but after drinking less than a quarter of it, I was full. Like, did not want to move, really full. It was thick and sweet, and just ended up being too heavy. I wish the shakes came in smaller sizes, because I would get it again, just by itself and not after half of a burger and some fries. I like that you could taste the toasted marshmallow and see the real vanilla bean flecks from the ice cream, and it came with a roasted marshmallow on top. We got here before opening (we were meeting friends) and and were the first customers, but it picked up fast and by 11:30 the line was out the door. I was expecting a sit down place (I didn't check on here beforehand) but you order at a counter and buzzed to get your food. The prices are high for a place like this, honestly. I ordered the smokehouse burger. It had the onion bites, bacon, BBQ sauce, and cheese. When I opened the wrapper, it looked very small. However, it was so filling. It was so delicious. Definitely the best burger I've had. I really loved the dipping bar. The OLD BAY sauce was the best. The fries were okay. They were limp and small. They were better than Wendy's or McDonald's, but not as good as Five Guys (my favorite). The milkshakes were a standout. The red velvet was delicious. It was so thick and creamy, and there was a generous spread of hot fudge on the sides of the cup. Not to mention that the mini milkshake is more than enough. If this place was cheaper, it would have earned five stars. I went there for lunch yesterday and I was concerned with the long line. The host assured me the line was moving quickly and it did. I got to place my order and find a spot in a relatively good pace. The condiments' table was clean, so I was able to prep right before I got notified order was ready for pick-up. I ordered the Lunch Bag special. I almost ordered the Green Goddess Salad, but hey this is a burger joint! The hamburger was perfectly placed next to a crispy fry bag. It was grilled well. Lettuce, tomato and onions were fresh. The bun was not too thick! I couldn't decide on the chocolate chip cookie or oatmeal raisin cookie, so I got both. A fairly good burger place, there is not a lot to complain about. It's a good casual place for a quick bite but much better than fast food (both in terms of food and experience). The service was pretty quick when I went, although it was fairly empty at that time (3pm on a Saturday), so I'm not sure how long you might end up waiting during a normal lunch rush. The restaurant is fairly spacious, room to stand and wait for your order if you want and plenty of seating. They have some pretty interesting menu options, but for my first time going it was pretty confusing trying to navigate. It was also unclear to me whether or not I could build my own - I still do not know. But that's okay! I ended up choosing Spikes Sunnyside and it was everything you'd expect from a bacon and egg burger. I will say the size of the burger was meh. My husband and I came here for dinner - we love burgers, and we've heard so many good things about this place from friends. We got the Big Stuff Bacon Meltdown by 'Shunning the Bun' (bun-less) - this burger contained double patties of beef, bacon, double cheese, ruby tomato, onions, lettuce, pickles, and a side of their 'Good Stuff' sauce. I liked how they had the sauce in a little container, so you can control how much sauce you wanted. The beef itself was mighty tasty - very juicy (I asked for it well-done, and it was still slightly pink in the inside, but a crispy exterior on the outside); the veggies were great, and it was so flavorful. We also got a cup of Uncle D's Famous Chili (which came with cheddar sauce, green onions, sour cream, and a wrapped homemade corn bread muffin). This chili was sweeter than the usual, but I thought it was hearty. You basically order, then they give you a buzzer; you sit yourself down, and then you wait - your meal comes in a white paper bag with a tray. There are also different types of sauces for your burgers and/or fries. The burgers are kind of pricey - sort of like your 'gourmet burger' type of prices ($7-8). The main reason for the 3 stars instead of 4 stars is the price. Not that the burger was tremendously overpriced, yet I thought the meal didn't quite live up to the pricing. The Vietnamese coffee shake was a hit and definitely NOT cheap for a shake (rather pricey actually). The burgers were all decent, no one had any real complaints. However, I've had better fast-food burgers in the area (Shake Shack to name one). I know Good Stuff was meant to be more gourmet but I wasn't super impressed with what we had. A few of us had the free range turkey burger and the rest had the standard cheese burgers. I first gave Good Stuff Eatery a 3 because after many years in DC and many, many, many visits to Good Stuff, I am a little over it. But even after dozens of visits, it still is a DC classic for a very good reason. It really is good stuff. I always get village fries and the President Obama burger and Cherry Coke. They have flavored mayo and the sirachi is amazing (as is the chipotle). I take tourists here and they always fall deeper into love with DC afterwards. The burger tasted good, but the bun was already getting soggy by the time it arrived and the burger was still very pink on the inside - think steakhouse rare. We were in a hurry to catch a flight, otherwise would have asked for a replacement. With a $10 price tag it was on the pricier end for fast casual. Maybe 3.5 bordering on 4, i have had Good stuff burgers before more specifically their capitol hill location and if i recall it was the farmhouse which i liked. On this visit i wanted something good and different. So all things Obama are good, so I tried the Obama burger. I liked it, but the onion marmalade made it a little to sweet for me which i didn't care for. All in all solid spot, also didn't know if i actually got the house made lemonade, that was a waste. I was taken to here by my friend for lunch during a week day. Street parking was a challenge and we ended up parking in a garage. I think this strip of restaurants are meant for people who work nearby and just walk over for lunch. Luckily, I live right across the street and I took my boyfriend here one evening after we both got home from work. They have many varieties of burger. I am usually not a big burger fan but I was impressed by good stuff. The buns were not super greasy and nasty and the meat was not super oily but get flavorful and I appreciate the thickness as well. I will not say much about their fries but my most favorite thing to order is always the marshmellow milkshake!!! It might sound weird but it tastes delicious!!! I've been here three times and I always ordered one. I should try another flavor on my next visit. This place has many large tvs so it gets very busy here in the evening too. read more

Searching for the good stuff... I ordered the Colletii's Smokehouse burger with Sunny's Hand Cut Fries. I tried this place because it was in an article that I read entitled "The Burger Joint Everyone Is Talking About In Your State." The burger bun was rather soggy and poorly presented. It looked as though it were a lower-end fast food burger. The patty itself was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh, however it could have been served at a hotter temperature. I didn't enjoy the fries because they were soggy and stubby which made them difficult to dip considering all of the available dipping sauces. The customer service wasn't not great and the kitchen morale seemed low. It didn't seem like some of the crew changed their gloves after leaving and returning to the kitchen. I'm no health inspector, but I'm almost certain that's a violation of basic food safety. Overall, I think that my experience suffered due to the particular staff that were working that day. The food has potential. I'll probably give this place another try, albeit at a different location. read more

Ordered thru GrubHub and order was ready on time. Good location for the restaurant. Burger was overall good and tasty. Nashville hot chicken sandwich was a disappointment. They should change the name of it because it is nowhere near a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Fries were a plus. read more

This location is very hit or miss. We've been 6 or 7 times over the course of a year. Burgers are 4/5, when they come with all the ingredients. Twice we've had toppings missing or things included that we asked to be taken off. Fries are 3/5 because they are on the soft side. The seasonings are good, but the fries are not crispy. If you cook them in the oven for a few minutes, they get crispy and delicious. Shakes are 5/5 - consistently the best thing I've had on the menu. Spike Mendelson's burger joint is not bad. The prices are reasonable and the burger was actually quite juicy. If I could I would give it 3.5 stars. It's not a showy place and perfect stop for lunch or to grab a quick bite before a movie. The fries were a little too greasy for me which was disappointing.
