Today I had one of Fusion Therapy's 24-carat Gold Leaf Facial. And in this blog I am going to…read moreexplain how Nick Parmar incorporates a blend of Gua sha, Cupping therapy, Acupressure, Qi Gong, Acupunture and Gold leaf into an amazing facial. Following on this blog will also be included my thoughts during and after the treatment. Gua sha is a instrument-assisted traditional Chinese medical treatment. During this treatment Nick press-stroked the skin to release unhealthy elements from any injured areas of my body and to stimulate my blood flow and healing. Gua sha is known to produce an anti-inflammatory effect and a protection for your immune system that continues for several days following just one treatment. It is often used for treating pain, stiffness, fever, chills, coughs, nausea and vomiting, and can also be very effective in treating acute and chronic internal organ disorders. Cupping therapy is an alternative medicine. During this therapy Nick placed cups on my skin to create suction, which in turn increased my blood flow. This treatment can be done to promote the healing of a broad range of medical disorders. For thousands of years the Chinese have used acupressure points as a treatment to enhance muscle tone and increase circulation. The facial acupressure points specifically improve skin condition, as well as the tone of facial muscles and connective tissue. This can decrease the appearance of wrinkles, without drugs or surgery. In our hectic lives we often pull and stretch our skin; the connective tissue becomes weak, and the skin becomes loose. Simple finger pressure on the appearance points, as well as therapeutic facial exercises relieve congested areas and relax the muscles. Toxins are then released and eliminated, which of course benefits skin appearance. The gentle rhythmic movements involved in Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been known to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions. If a consistent practice of Qigong was maintained it can be seen to help one regain a youthful vitality, maintain good health even into old age and helps speed recovery from illness. Western medical acupuncture is known to stimulate nerves under the skin and in muscle tissue. Traditional acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy flows through the body in channels called meridians. This life force is known as Qi. However many therapists who adhere to traditional beliefs about acupuncture believe that when Qi does not flow freely through the body, this can cause illness. They believe acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi, and so restore good health. A Gold leaf facial is a facial treatment conducted by Nick Parmar at Fusion Therapy. It includes the application of 24-carat gold leaves which are known to help the skin during the process of cell renewal. This brings about a significant reduction of wrinkles and fine lines. The gold leaf has anti-aging properties and makes the skin look youthful, as well as helping in the elimination of toxins and combating damages made by the sun. It is also known to provide the skin with oxygen and reduces tired appearances. It brightens up the skin so your face no longer looks dull; blemishes and acne can be prevented with its anti-bacterial properties. The gold leaf ensures that skin elasticity is maintained, and can also improve the blood circulation. The main aim of placing gold on the face is to hydrate, firm and moisturise the skin. This is done to reduce fine lines and resulting in more smooth and radiant skin. The facial naturally rejuvenates the skin and reduce wrinkles. Keeping the skin firm, this is done by maintaining collagen in the skin and inhibiting the breakdown of elastin. Who needs Botox when you can have the same results from a more natural therapy. To conclude, my overall experience of the 24-carat Gold leaf facial was fantastic. Nick Parmar runs a mobile company which meant I could enjoy the luxurious facial from the comfort of my own home. It also meant that once the facial was over I didn't have to get up and enter back into the stress of everyday life so suddenly. My face now looks and feels great, and I truly believe that this is because of this amazing gold leaf facial. I have also noticed that the blemishes on my skin have reduced. In myself I feel so relaxed and so much more confident, and that's all thanks to Nick and his blend of Gua sha, Cupping therapy, Acupressure, Qi Gong, Acupunture and Gold leaf. I had such a fabulous experience I decided to write this blog and share my experience with you. I guess I've covered just about everything. The only question that remains is how soon will you be enjoying a 24-carat gold facial by Nick Parmar?

The Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) is a huge, sprawling hospital in the centre of Leeds and you'd be…read morewell advised to research exactly where in the hospital your appointment is before you arrive. It can easily end up being a long walk across town to find the right ward if you get it wrong. In spite of its large and sprawling nature the hospital is efficient. Waiting times are short and staff are attentive. Obviously, no one ever really wants to g to a hospital but if you do have to go to one you'd rather go to a nice, efficient one and "nice and efficient" describes the LGI well. As hospitals go it's not an awful place to be either. The wards and general areas are decorated nicely and there's art here and there. There's a Costa Coffee within the hospital as well as a gift shop and a roof top garden. The first version of the hospital was opened in 1771 by graduates of the University of Edinburgh Medical School but the current version opened in 1869 and has gone through several refurbishments, upgrades and expansions since. Much of the layout plans of the hospital were based on recommendations by Florence Nightingale. So, I would absolutely avoid ever coming here but only because it's a hospital and I would absolutely avoid ever going to any of them. If you have to be in a hospital the LGI is just fine. Besides, I was born here, so it gets extra points for that.

Get your appointment location wrong and you may be lost forever! Honestly, there are times when…read moreI've been sorely tempted to catch a bus to another part of the hospital. As with many large hospitals in big cities LGI has been remodelled and added to over the years with the result that there are carbuncles on the structure that even their best surgeon couldn't remove and lots of unexpected and seemingly pointless changes of level in order to get to your destination. Travelling through LGI is a real exercise in 4 dimensional travel. There are always going to be stories of horror, joy and grief in any hospital but my personal experience has been of rather inept management and administration coupled with caring, dedicated staff (in most areas) who do the best they can with more and more limited funding. It remains a personal bugbear that hospitals such as LGI now resemble shopping malls in places (with the exception of affordable, accessible parking). Oh for the days when you could grab reasonable refreshment from a basic but clean cafeteria run by volunteers.

Firstly, as a retail outlet (I can't believe I'm saying that) St James', and particularly Gledhow wing, is well over priced. On entering I am reminded of an airport departure lounge and, in common with these, the retailers are aware that they are serving a captive audience and quite obviously have no problem in profiting from peoples misfortune. I'm sure that these shiny new retail units are making lots of money for someone and it's good to know that, somewhere, there are happy people. More worrying was the comment of the assistant in one of these retail units when I commented on the excessive profits. I won't repeat his words but his comment on who profits was clearly racist. As a hospital (yes they still have room for that sort of stuff) I was left feeling saddened and extremely worried. I ha ve been visiting St James' daily for the past three weeks and these are my overall impressions: I have the up-most respect for most of the individuals who provide nursing and support care but, as a qualified nurse, I worried that many staff seem under trained for the role they find themselves in and they are obviously very stressed. It is unacceptable to 'forget' a patients medication, neglect hygiene needs or protect patients from harm. Staffing levels are low and patient care suffers because of this. Recently I spent a night on the assessment ward where there were several patients in the corridor due to lack of space some of whom had been waiting 12 hours for a bed (and some of these patients were planned admissions, asked to come in because a bed was ready for them). Don't even get me started on the cost of parking........
