Yummy bubble tea. Great location. I frequent this place alot because it is so convenient near rogers arena. Their is ample loading parking too. So its actually not quite hard to find a place to park for a few minutes to get my drink. I ussually order the brown sugar or ube milk tea. I find they always put alot of bubbles in my milk tea. The only thing I notice is that the server always modifies my drinks every time I order by entering less ice so I am upcharged a few dollars with every drink. She does this without asking me and it has happened on three separate occasions this month. So double check your bill if this matters to you. Honestly I don't mind since you get more drink. But it would be nice go be asked since I am getting charged extra for this! read more

Came to Gong Cha with the hubs late night this week after an Oilers game (we won 6-0!!!! Yay!!!) First off, love that it's atop XO Bar and Bistro and you can actually order bevvies here and have them delivered downstairs in the Vietnamese restaurant! On the downside here is that it's stairs access only to the Gong Cha portion so if you are mobility impaired - this could be a no go. Mind blown at the number of options here. I mean seriously! The fam jam and I love our bubble tea but the options here go far beyond what's available at T&T in West Ed or Dream Bubble Tea. We opted to go out of our normal fresh fruit and tea comfort zone. Hubs really wanted to try and Earl Gray London Fog sorta tea but they were all out. So we opted for the Milky Panda (which I thought had basil seeds on top but had oreo crumbs - say what?) and a Grapefruit Green Tea! Both were delicious and not as sweet as your regular run of the mill bubble tea shoppes around town. What I really liked here is the ability to customize easily - more ice, less ice, no ice, more sugar, less sugar, no sugar. And I still have to come back (soon) and try basil seeds atop my bubble tea! The staff member was nice and super patient and happily answered all my questions. He even took the sealed top off of my tea so that I could more easily access the salted milk foam (I think) and gave me a traditional lid. Can't wait to go back for Round 2! read more

Craving some bubble tea, so I thought I would try out the new franchise BBT place closest to my work. It's located just across the street from the new arena, sharing its space with a Vietnamese restaurant on the ground floor of the Ultima. It's a pretty small space, so if you're looking to come and hang out with a few friends, you might want to go elsewhere. The menu features various teas, milks, juices, and even a couple coffee based drinks. You also have your choice of selecting degree of sweetness, amount of ice and toppings. If you opt for a larger size, it's an additional 50 cents. I ordered the Earl Grey milk tea with 3J. The menu does not tell you what "3J" means at all. It's basically milk tea with pearls, grass jelly, and pudding. (similar to a drink at Coco Fresh nearby) I ordered mine half sweet, which I felt was just right. Taste-wise, it was nothing out of the ordinary, and I found the pearls a little on the bland side. My coworkers ordered the taro with red bean and the matcha with red bean. They both stated that they enjoyed their drinks. One coworker ordered hers "regular", meaning full sweet and regular ice. She didn't say anything about it being too sweet, but did comment on how she had too much ice. I was not very impressed service wise. We stood in front of the cash register for a few minutes before we were acknowledged in any way by the 2 staff working just a few feet away. No idea if they offer any sort of loyalty card, as the staff didn't make any mention of it, nor did I see any stamp cards kicking around. I like the menu options, so I think I'll come and give it another try. If the pearls continue to disappoint me, I'll go to one of the other new BBT places opening up downtown. read more

Service was super slow. The cashier kept taking orders but did not have anyone else making the drinks. We waited for over 15 min for our drinks. Note that when we ordered there was no one ahead of us. I watched the cashier keep taking orders and neglecting to make the drinks. There was another lady who came out the back a few times but did not help in making the drinks. At one point a large crowd came in and the cashier kept taking orders. We finally got our drinks and they were extremely watered down. My husbands matcha red bean was disgusting. There was also hardly any red bean at all. Not coming back. Not worth it . Another great Bubble Tea place! Located just in the midst of downtown. Going up the stairs the cosy bright cafe is welcoming. Immediately you are greeted by a friendly bubble tea host. The menu is big and visible. I always go with the earl great 3J, no sugar and no ice. In less than 5 mins the bubble tea is ready and delicious! Parking is a hit or miss since it is downtown. I always come here for a refreshing drink! It is pretty much my go to place for a thirst quencher. Probably up there on terms of BBT tea places to visit. This location is super convenient since it is located centrally downtown. If you work downtown it is quite convenient to get to. The drinks are delicious, pretty healthy if you get ones with less sugar... you can get half sugar etc. There are also options for just honey. I love that you can even adjust the drink to have desired chewy lychee pieces, coconut or taro. I have a rewards point card that gives me free drinks if I go often enough. I would highly recommend visiting gong cha if you're looking for a healthy treat that also quenches your thirst! Drinks here are perfect for during the summer time. However, I get it all year round!! So many options for bubble tea!!!!! I love how customizable these drinks can get. There are many options for bubble tea lovers. At first I didn't realize there was something else above XO, but my girlfriend took me here a few months ago and I've been hooked ever since! Usually I get the Taro without red bean, with coconut jelly and tapioca pearls. That is my favourite but there are so many options for anyone to enjoy. The employees are nice and the drinks come out in a reasonable amount of time. I think this is probably my fave place for bubble tea in yeg. Some of the worst bubble tea that I've had in a while. There was only one associate on site taking orders and making all the drinks so it was a bit of wait to get our drinks. The matcha milk tea tasted fine but the pearls must've been sitting for a while because they were terrible. Having paid $6 for my drink, I was pretty disappointed with what I got. Quality is seriously lacking here. If you're looking to grab some bubble tea in the area, I'd advise going to the CoCo's a couple blocks down because the drinks were much better there. read more

If you like bubble tea, this is an international chain that now has their first store in Alberta. It is located above XO Bar and Bistro. They do have a website so you can take a look at the menu before you wander down to the store. Everything is customize-able. I love the Caramel Milk Tea but I like the tapioca pearls in it. You can also ask to have the sweetness adjusted according to your taste. Whatever you like, they can make it happen for you . It is a smaller space, so more of a "grab and go". If you would like a bite to go with it, you can take a seat in the bar downstairs and have your bubble tea delivered there. Win/win. The flavour of the milk tea was amazing. I also liked that you can order it in more than one size. My new favourite tea place. I am sure I will be back a lot. read more

I've been here a few times and every time I go it is fairly empty, so getting the boba and leaving asap is fine. The drinks are good and consistent. Location wise its a little weird to walk past a bar and go upstairs for boba. read more

As much as I love Gong Cha, there was this one worker who disappointed the only two customers in the shop (at the time) by getting the orders both wrong .... I asked for hot bubble tea specifically for both and disappointed he couldn't cancel the order even though I haven't paid yet so we could try to redo it.. Surprisingly busy at 2200 on a Thursday night, but they provided fast and friendly service. Must have been a bit more busy than expected though? Because they ran out of regular sago. They recommended the white sago instead, it had a surprising crunch, and added nicely to the texture of my Milky Foam Black Forest, however the drink overall was a bit too but grass jelly and not enough liquid for my taste. Also ordered an Early Greg Milk Tea with 3J (sago, pudding, and grass jelly) and the tea was so fragrant and smooth, I will definitely order it again. My boyfriend and I went to Sabor for dinner and decided to drop by Gong Cha afterwards since it's only a minute walk away (across from City Center). I had wanted to try Gong Cha out for a while now since it had already opened in Vancouver a couple months before. Gong Cha is upstairs and is a very small bubble tea cafe with only one side table that stretches to fit about 7 bar stools. The menu is on the wall and pretty self explanatory (resembled coco's and cha time where you adjust the amount of ice and the sweetness level for the drinks). I went for their signature drink which was their Milk Foam Wintermelon Drink ($4.50). I was told that I couldn't adjust the sweetness level for this drink and it turned out to be way too sweet for my liking (and I did mix the foam with the drink). My brother ordered the Milk Foam Black Forest ($5) and it only came in the smaller size (and you also can't adjust the sweetness for this drink). It was more of a dessert than a drink that consisted of a generous amount of toppings such grass jelly and tapioca, topped with milk foam as well. It wasn't as sweet as the milk foam winter melon so I enjoyed this one more but there wasn't anything particularly special about it. It kind of just tasted like grass jelly to be honest (I'm a big fan of grass jelly but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a drink). Overall, I didn't think Gong Cha was anything special. I definitely prefer Chatime or Coco's over Gong Cha. read more
