I looked around countless number of shops for upholstery service for my office chair - all were quoting really high prices. I even asked another shop if they could customize colors and they gave me an attitude. Went into Bernardo's shop here at Gomez Custom Upholstery and he talked over the colors and what he could do for cushioning and stitching. He made everything sound like not a problem. And it really wasn't for him as he really did do all the things I asked him to. Not only that, but he was adamant on having a same day turn around for me. Other places would be weeks. Truly a hard worker. Really good communication as he texted me on updates in a quick manner for material he has and he remembered everything needed to be done. Also worked with me on the time I could pick it up and was flexible. I had a minor issue with my chair when I took it back home and told Bernardo about it. He fixed it for me quickly and told me if I have any other issues I can let him know. Grade A quality service and customer service! Glad they closed. I was going to write a bad review on the damages they (the owner) did to my convertible which was pay in full for installation, then the shop or owner asked for more money the second time I brought it back for a bad convertible installation after one week. Owner pretends to be helpful, it is acting, don't him trust. Wonder where the shop or owner got those 4 or 5 stars reviews, it is the shop or owner giving good reviews to himself with different yelp accounts. Don't get scam. The shop or owner watches YouTube videos and do a bad job on your car. We, us or you can look up some YouTube videos and do a good job yourself. Don't waste money, your time, gasoline and headache (excuses) bringing your car or job to him. The owner finally got sue and close. Hope the owner doesn't go somewhere else to open up a shop in a new location after this location closed, to scam again. read more

I would not recommend this business to anyone going forward. Just because he has the word "Custom" in his business name doesn't mean he can do anything. I refuse to take my seats back to him because I don't want to wait another month to get them back. He will give you a date and not come through. He told me my project would take 5 business days and it ended up being 11 weeks. I had to ask him if I had to get the BBB or lawyer involved because he was not giving me a date he would be finished. He may be good for small projects but not a full interior like I had. Pros: -The rear speaker deck cover he did came out as I expected and was perfect to me. -Rear seats came out good. -Bernard is a nice guy and will answer any question you might have. Cons: -Bad communication. Hardly answered my call or texts. I still have the text messages. -Deadline dates were never met. There was always an excuse. -He took 2 deposits from me then asked me for the entire amount and delivers 2 months later. 5 business days is how long he told me it would take. -Shop is swarmed with kittens/cats so beware if you're allergic like me. Your upholstery will smell like it. My seats smell like pee or dirty cat. I don't know... -Does not pay attention to detail. Seats came back with stains and damage. Glue was left on the seat. Red stitching was not straight and even on the seat. -I felt like I was being pushed off after I paid in full. 5/23 UPDATE: 5/23 - all pictures were recent. They even have the GPS location on where I took them and what time. I have no reason to lie about this. I have every single text messages saved on my phone. Yes I was happy with the rear seats and door panels. Matter in fact, the door panels are already bubbling up. Should I do a new review for that? I posted 1 of many pics that I've taken at his business where he said I lied about posting old pictures. I asked him for a price for everything and he gave it to me. I took my bench seat from a 1966 El Camino and they did a fantastic job and completed it faster than expected. Just a "Buyer beware." If you plan on paying with a credit or debit card, they charge a 3.5% surcharge for the use. You read that right. It's 3.5% of the entire balance. Make sure you ask for the full price out the door. I bring that up because Daniel told me the cost was $1,000. When I arrived, he failed to tell me about the surcharge, so I said I was not going to pay an extra $35 just to use my credit card. He claimed the credit card company was adding the charge, but I saw a note posted saying that due to the increase in the cost of materials, they had to charge this additional fee. I told him I was going back home to get my checkbook, still thinking I was going to pay the original $1,000 quote. He apologized and said he should have told me before I arrived. I returned with my checkbook, and he said he had to charge an additional $36 for taxes. Well, that didn't compute either because 3.5% is not the percentage of California tax. I just went ahead and paid the additional $36 before he did actually add on the California tax rate. If I would have been told the price out the door was $1,000, I would have brought my checkbook and would not have paid the additional $36. The bench seat needed the back plastic stoppers and I asked him if they would put them in if I got them and he said he would. They did this at no cost, so that was worth the extra $36 to me. Just as an added note. The business should just tell you that they add a 3.5% surcharge on all work done due to additional business expenses and not make the claim that this is charged by the bank. I have my doubts that the bank can do this. This is the only reason I did not give the business 5 stars. read more

I was looking for a local shop to reupholster smaller leather pieces from my Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches--parts that had shrunk, dried with age, or needed custom work. I saw photos on his Yelp page of similar cars, which led me to believe he had experience with exotics. Looking back, I now suspect those photos may not have been his actual work--just random pictures. I started with a small dashboard piece from a Ferrari. Communication was great at first--Bernardo was responsive and confident, quoted a very fair price, and promised a three-day turnaround. I've previously sent parts to Germany for leather work, so I had a general idea of pricing. When I visited the shop, it was cluttered and dusty, but I've worked with small family-run businesses before that delivered excellent work, so I didn't judge based on appearance. He showed me different leather options and explained that European hides were more expensive due to their finer texture. Since this particular piece wasn't prominently visible in the car and I wasn't yet sure of his craftsmanship, I opted for the more affordable American Napa leather, which still looked decent. First Attempt: The work took about a week, which was fine. When I picked up the part, I immediately noticed a dent and wrinkling along the edges--issues that weren't present in the original piece even after 16 years. Bernardo blamed the glue drying process and assured me it would improve with time. The stitching also came out pink instead of red, but he insisted the OEM red had faded over time. One day, he claimed he was missing red stitching; the next, he said he broke his phone and missed all yelp messages. His coworkers or Mom would pretend not to speak English or claim he wasn't around. When I finally caught him in person, he showed me a vague, half-finished piece and promised it would be done "tomorrow." That day never came, despite multiple confirmations. He shamelessly made me drive down there for nothing--repeatedly. Through it all, I remained patient, polite, and fair. The Bottom Line: This simple job turned into a two-month ordeal filled with dishonesty, poor craftsmanship, and zero accountability. Bernardo couldn't even match stitching color correctly. Rather than admit he underestimated the complexity of the job, he chose to lie, dodge responsibility, and waste my time. It's laughable that he literally hides from me at the shop--like a mouse! This family business, passed down from the late Mr. Gomez Sr., is heading toward ruin under his son's management. This situation could have been resolved in so many better ways: -He could have simply declined the job like other shops did. -He could have admitted he couldn't improve it and returned the part. -He could have offered a refund. -Or even completed a second 7/10 job and called it his best effort. But instead, he chose the path that rightfully earned him this review, over just a few hundred dollars He may do fine with everyday vehicles, but if you care about quality, attention to detail, real customer service, or integrity--especially for higher-end or collector cars--do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

Set up an appointment couple weeks ago. The guy who set the the appointment said drop it off early in the morning and the car will be ready at the end of the day. Just for the roof liner repair. Fast forward to appointment day, dropped of the car at 9am, the guy who was there said it was an easy job and it'll be done by 2pm. Took a $25 Uber back home. Called them 5 time from 3-5pm and left a message. No response. Took a $30 Uber their expecting to have my car ready. The old guy with the rude demeanor said the car was not ready, they never even touched it. The never got the material. So now I'm out $55 in Uber ride, wasted a whole day, my car is not done, no communication, and the guy lies to my face with no shame, very nonchalant with other peoples cars like anyone can come in and take things from customers cars or vandalize it, they really don't care or pay attention. Was I shrinking like that witch in the Wizard of Oz? My rear sank so far down in my seat. I could barely see over the dashboard.. What caused my rear to blow out the bottom of my truck seat? The owner came out and said I need mucho padding! "What? ......mucho padding?" He said I blew out three springs on the bottom of seat.. I thought my seat was small...oh..you mean the truck seat!!! Bernardo created a very durable seam in my pool cover. His work was good and his prices were fair and all done the same day!!!! I was poised to write him a good review but what followed was beyond belief. Bernardo ruined his review after he took my money for an order of material that he said he could obtain. After a month of waiting he told me the material was arriving and to come pick it up. He not only did not obtain the promised material but it appears he never ordered it. When asked for a refund would not refund my money. He went on to bounce a check and when asked to refund my money with cash he continued to be evasive. He would promise payment on more than one occasion, tell me when to come get my money, but every time I would show up at the shop he was never there and no one in the shop knew what the status of my refund was. I finally got my money after multiple trips to the shop thanks to the mother, at least she has integrity. What a disappointment this guy turned out to be. Let the buyer beware but after the way I was treated I absolutely can no longer recommend this shop to anyone. When you continually jerk your clients around for weeks on end you loose all your credibility. Respect is mutual and continually earned.
