1966 El Camino bench seat
Estevan M.

I took my bench seat from a 1966 El Camino and they did a fantastic job and completed it faster than expected. Just a "Buyer beware." If you plan on paying with a credit or debit card, they charge a 3.5% surcharge for the use. You read that right. It's 3.5% of the entire balance. Make sure you ask for the full price out the door. I bring that up because Daniel told me the cost was $1,000. When I arrived, he failed to tell me about the surcharge, so I said I was not going to pay an extra $35 just to use my credit card. He claimed the credit card company was adding the charge, but I saw a note posted saying that due to the increase in the cost of materials, they had to charge this additional fee. I told him I was going back home to get my checkbook, still thinking I was going to pay the original $1,000 quote. He apologized and said he should have told me before I arrived. I returned with my checkbook, and he said he had to charge an additional $36 for taxes. Well, that didn't compute either because 3.5% is not the percentage of California tax. I just went ahead and paid the additional $36 before he did actually add on the California tax rate. If I would have been told the price out the door was $1,000, I would have brought my checkbook and would not have paid the additional $36. The bench seat needed the back plastic stoppers and I asked him if they would put them in if I got them and he said he would. They did this at no cost, so that was worth the extra $36 to me. Just as an added note. The business should just tell you that they add a 3.5% surcharge on all work done due to additional business expenses and not make the claim that this is charged by the bank. I have my doubts that the bank can do this. This is the only reason I did not give the business 5 stars.

A Nightmare Experience! I try to be fair even with negative reviews, but my experience with Bernardo was so disappointing that I feel compelled to warn others--especially those with higher-end, exotic, or collector vehicles. I initially contacted Bernardo through Yelp after relocating to the SGV following a wildfire. I was looking for a local shop to reupholster smaller leather pieces from my Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches--parts that had shrunk, dried with age, or needed custom work. I saw photos on his Yelp page of similar cars, which led me to believe he had experience with exotics. Looking back, I now suspect those photos may not have been his actual work--just random pictures. I started with a small dashboard piece from a Ferrari. Communication was great at first--Bernardo was responsive and confident, quoted a very fair price, and promised a three-day turnaround. I've previously sent parts to Germany for leather work, so I had a general idea of pricing. When I visited the shop, it was cluttered and dusty, but I've worked with small family-run businesses before that delivered excellent work, so I didn't judge based on appearance. He showed me different leather options and explained that European hides were more expensive due to their finer texture. Since this particular piece wasn't prominently visible in the car and I wasn't yet sure of his craftsmanship, I opted for the more affordable American Napa leather, which still looked decent. First Attempt: The work took about a week, which was fine. When I picked up the part, I immediately noticed a dent and wrinkling along the edges--issues that weren't present in the original piece even after 16 years. Bernardo blamed the glue drying process and assured me it would improve with time. The stitching also came out pink instead of red, but he insisted the OEM red had faded over time. I wasn't thrilled, but I accepted it as a 7/10 job--mediocre but passable for the price, and barely noticeable from five feet away. He told me he'd happily redo it if I wasn't satisfied. Second Attempt: After a few days, the blemishes hadn't improved, even after drying in the sun. When Bernardo followed up about other work, I gave him honest feedback and asked if he could redo the piece, because while I can look past the dent and the pink stitching, the excessive wrinkles facing the driver on the dash is hard to overlook. He gladly agreed, and I appreciated that at the time. I like giving businesses second chances--as long as they're trying. Everyone makes mistakes. That's when the nightmare began. Weeks passed with excuses, delays, and outright lies. I made multiple trips to the shop after he began ghosting me, only to find the part untouched, half-done, or not even started--despite his texts claiming it was "ready." Eventually, he stopped responding to calls and messages entirely. On one visit, I found the original piece and two failed attempts sitting there--clear evidence that no real progress had been made in over two months. He even texted me a picture of the 1st failed attempt as his 2nd attempt Every interaction felt like an exercise in evasion. One day, he claimed he was missing red stitching; the next, he said he broke his phone and missed all yelp messages. His coworkers or Mom would pretend not to speak English or claim he wasn't around. When I finally caught him in person, he showed me a vague, half-finished piece and promised it would be done "tomorrow." That day never came, despite multiple confirmations. He shamelessly made me drive down there for nothing--repeatedly. Through it all, I remained patient, polite, and fair. The Bottom Line: This simple job turned into a two-month ordeal filled with dishonesty, poor craftsmanship, and zero accountability. Bernardo couldn't even match stitching color correctly. Rather than admit he underestimated the complexity of the job, he chose to lie, dodge responsibility, and waste my time. It's laughable that he literally hides from me at the shop--like a mouse! This family business, passed down from the late Mr. Gomez Sr., is heading toward ruin under his son's management. This situation could have been resolved in so many better ways: -He could have simply declined the job like other shops did. -He could have admitted he couldn't improve it and returned the part. -He could have offered a refund. -Or even completed a second 7/10 job and called it his best effort. But instead, he chose the path that rightfully earned him this review, over just a few hundred dollars He may do fine with everyday vehicles, but if you care about quality, attention to detail, real customer service, or integrity--especially for higher-end or collector cars--do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Office chair reupholstered for a competitive price l!

I looked around countless number of shops for upholstery service for my office chair - all were quoting really high prices. I even asked another shop if they could customize colors and they gave me an attitude. Went into Bernardo's shop here at Gomez Custom Upholstery and he talked over the colors and what he could do for cushioning and stitching. He made everything sound like not a problem. And it really wasn't for him as he really did do all the things I asked him to. Not only that, but he was adamant on having a same day turn around for me. Other places would be weeks. Truly a hard worker. Really good communication as he texted me on updates in a quick manner for material he has and he remembered everything needed to be done. Also worked with me on the time I could pick it up and was flexible. I had a minor issue with my chair when I took it back home and told Bernardo about it. He fixed it for me quickly and told me if I have any other issues I can let him know. Grade A quality service and customer service! This is definitely my go-to for upholstery needs from now on.

Seat cover install with seat foam shaving for my motocross bike .excellent job and price was amazing!

Quality of service was amazing ,price was very affordable and reasonable. They installed my seat cover and shaved the foam fit perfectly on my bike. Parking is very limited suggested to park around the corner not on valley blvd.

We are selling our 5 years old Mercedes SUV and looking for repair some of the interior damages. we are very satisfied with Gomez Upholstery and would recommend you to come get your interior repair here with Daniel the master of auto upholstery. We went to several auto upholstery shops nearby to get quoted and Gomez was the most reasonable and most responsive. Daniel is the upholstery master he is doing this 40+ years experience. Not only the driver seat he can repair , he also repaired the interior wall , the trunk carpet, also the cover shield of the seatbelt. First you bring your car into the shop to get quote , they will tell you in immediately how much it will cost to repair each spot , they you can ask for some discounts if you have multiple spots need to repair. Job is done within 24 hours! Hope he won't be retried soon so he can help more customers like me!

Brought my 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 To have the headliner replaced. They did an amazing job. The driver side visor did not have a mirror, and they were able to find a pair that match and put them on for me. I contacted several places, and this company was the best price around. I definitely would recommend Gomez Custom Upholstery.

Absolute legends. Worked with Gomez Jr to reupholster a pair of my Recaro seats, and boy did he deliver!!! He definitely brought back my seats from the dead. It took him about 2-3 days to figure it all out and make the seat covers fit as I made an oopsie and bought ones that are slightly off. But man did he do an amazing job. On top of that, he created some custom seat inserts for me and it definitely made my interior pop. Great people, great turnarounds, great value, and great results. Will definitely be back soon!

Ripped leather on seat cushion
Jason Y.

I was looking for an upholstery shop to replace the ripped leather on my seat cushions in my car, so I went on Yelp to get a quote for my project. Eventually after getting several quotes and reading the reviews, I decided to let Bernardo take on my project as he offered a very reasonable price. Bernardo was very professional, communicative and efficient. I was able to drop off my car on a Friday morning and she was ready early next morning. She looked gorgeous! Bernardo was able to replace the leather on my seat cushions and they look like they just came out from the factory! I recommend anyone who needs a project like this done to go to this shop!

Before photo (webbing underneath was too loose and the chair sagged when sitting down)
Brandon C.

I needed a place to upholster my dining chairs. Bernardo was fast and inexpensive! The chairs came out great! He tightened the webbing underneath the seat and added more cushion. The chairs now no longer sag and have that sinking feeling when sitting on them. I definitely recommend them if you need dining chairs upholstered.

From my intial quote request via Yelp for installation of a new convertible top, headliner, and re-upholster two front seats, to all the communications via messages and phone calls for all my inquiries/concerns, up until the day I brought in the car in, Bernardo was nothing short of professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and overall a down to earth honest person. Bernardo provided excellent workmanship installing the new convertible top and headliner and the the two re-upholstered seats came out ! He great. Communicated throughout the process until finish. Thank you again Bernardo!

Took some donor seats I have for a 65 chevelle I'm finishing and drop them off and the guys were beyond helpful and got my uppers reupholstered in 2 day turn around and even tuned up the back with new clips for free , without even asking !! I'm very happy and hope that they get more people in the hotrod/muscle car industry because we can afford to lose great shops like these Old school feel, honest work and quality craftsmanship!!!

I took the boat in to have everything replaced in the lower drive, bellows, gimbal bearing, hoses, gaskets, gear oil change, shift cable, trim senders and more. I wanted everything replaced as a preventative measure, after looking at the old parts, everything still looked new and didn't even need to be changed- my fault for trying to be too cautious and i could have waited a couple years. All the other shops from OC to LA were booked up for months, so i went ahead with Boats Plus, even though the quote was nearly twice as much as everyone else- $1200 vs $2200 at Boats Plus. Bad mistake. Boat was operating very good before they touched it. Now i have to deal with: - Binding shift cable - hard starting - rough idling - gear oil leak coming from inside - forgot to reconnect the speedo tube - forgot to tighten some screws - spray paint overspray on the side of the hull - dirty greasy footprints all over the deck - greasy fingerprints everywhere - swim step bracket base broken - and more i cant think of right now And i cant be 100% sure the stuff on the inside is good, seeing how horrible the stuff on the outside looks. Did they even perform the work? Do i trust the bellows not to slip off? Called them, took it back, only for excuses and not accepting what they did wrong, tried to blame me. Tired of dealing with this old man jerk off, if they touch my boat again they will prob mess something else up. Save yourself major headaches, time, and money. The WORST experience in my life. I give it a ZERO star. NO INTEGRITY. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE…read more Spoke to LUIS a phone representative and he was not much help. Escalated matter to service manager, STEVE who came on phone with an argumentative tone, then escalated the matter to MIKE LEE, I believe he's one of the owners and he was of NO help. They all stuck to their lies and no interest in helping me. They recommended me Global Towing which is their vendor who was also nightmare. They picked my bus on Friday, did not drop off as they were suppose to. Had to call the police to intervene to get my bus back and the bus didn't get dropped off until the next morning. Valley Power told me they can fix my problem which is why I had it towed to them in the first place. They billed me $125/hr for 4 hours only to tell me they can't fix the problem. What am I paying for? At least give me a diagnose... VALLEY POWER is a business with NO INTEGRITY. I deal with people who are high principled... All three people that I had spoken with there are people with no character, no moral standard.. all they care about is taking money from you. In response to the comment below: ALL OF YOU LIE SO MUCH IT'S SO DAMN HARD TO KEEP TRACK!!LUIS, STEVE, MIKE LEE AND NOW YOU, CHRIS...YOU ALL HAVE A DIFFERENT VERSION OF WHAT HAPPENED AND EVEN YOUR OWN INVOICE TELL A DIFFERENT LIE. Chris you are telling another lie. You never gave me the option to fix the problem. You: "We respect your decision not to proceed with the repairs..." Your invoice: "UNIT MUST GO TO THE OEM FOR ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC. UNIT NOW READY FOR PICK UP." Lets just be honest, you're inexperience. The reason I towed it to your company is to have it fix and because your representative, Luis said you can. Then your company told me it was a problem that you can't fix and that it was the OEM issue. Now you're telling me that you can? Which is it? Look at the invoice YOUR COMPANY wrote up!!! That's the prime example of BAD BUSINESS.. YOU ALL LIE..the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. THE TRUTH DOESN'T CHANGE. LIES DOES. The truth has a way of revealing itself. Look at YOUR words and look at YOUR invoice-- YOU ARE CONTRADICTING.. And if you can't speak for Global Towing, then why did I pay you the towing fee? YOU: "It has been our experience that they offer our customers great service at a fair price. Am I not your customer as well? And if you cannot speak to me about Global Towing as they are an independent company, why are you speaking for them now? Does it not concern you that the towing company you recommended which is your preferred vendor that you gave a raving review for took my bus hostage, not answer my calls while I have no idea where he took or what he did to my bus when he should have delivered to your shop on Friday, September 15th? You know how much stress that caused me? How about you take some time to read the photos I uploaded. Come on Chris, be a man of honor.. NOTHING IS AT LAST SACRED BUT THE INTEGRITY OF YOUR MIND"...
