Case in point, a recent wedding anniversary to celebrate and to return once more, this time for their 7-Course Shared Banquet. For $75pp it included Pork, Mushroom & Ginger Vietnamese Egg Rolls, Lamb Dumplings, Roast BBQ Duck & Spiced Cherry Crepe, Cracklin' Twice-Cooked Free-Range Pork Belly, Chilli Aubergine, Steamed Jasmine Rice, Game Farm Duck Frites and last, but not least, Crème Brûlée du Jour. It was almost too much for two people but we plowed through each course with gusto while taking a pause and breather before the duck frites came out. Pre-dinner cocktails and a bottle of Pinot Gris complimented the dishes and added nicely to the occasion. And our waiter, Kevin, was outstanding with excellent table management and timing. Although it is not typically a "family" restaurant, children are still well catered for as some of the street food menu items are quite suitable and appealing for children. My husband and I ordered the "I'm Hungry" banquet, and my gosh, it was amazing! We were so full! My favourites included the San Choy Bao and the Chicken Coleslaw. Very moreish indeed. The kids had the Popcorn Chicken, the spring rolls, and sampled the San Choy Bao. They ate everything and my son said, "sooooo good!". Highly recommended, and I would be more than happy to go again and take some friends!

I ordered the cassoulet for my main which is the richest dish I have ever eaten in my life! A crispy skinned melt in your mouth duck leg confit, Toulouse sausage and piece of pork belly served on white haricot beans - exquisite. The service was exceptional! The wait staff returned at regular intervals to ensure we were enjoying ourselves or required anything - they also provided wine recommendations for each of our meals. It is quite expensive so maybe save for a special occasion.

I started with an entrée of ratatouille, which at just under $20 for a palmful of roasted vegetables, I would have expected to pay for a main. For the main, I chose coq au riesling (a chicken dish), which set my date back $35. I found this meal very disappointing. For that price, I would have expected fillets or the sort in the chicken broth. Instead, it was a chicken Maryland ($1.80 from the deli (mostly ribs and drumstick)). Not being a fan of having to hack at carcasses, I mostly just drank the souplike broth it was in, which being as rich as it was, was probably not the best idea either. By the time we came to ordering dessert, I had felt so incredibly guilty for my date to be paying for what I hadn't enjoyed, we shared the tasting platter. It contained 5 items, all small portions of course. This was the first course that I had thoroughly enjoyed, and at $32 for both of us, it was probably the best value of the night. By the time we left, the place was packed with young Australian guys taking girls on dates... Now the prices made sense. If you want to get someone into the sack through sheer guilt, take them to C'est Bon.. It's good. ;)

Serving size vs price was what one would expect from a waterfront fine dining restaurant so I won't complain about that. (I know places like this usually have modest servings so I had a snack before going!) Slightly disappointed with the slow service. We were only one of two tables seated on a Wednesday night yet our entrees and deserts were very slow to arrive. Another reason I'm glad I had a snack first! If it was a busy weekend night this would have been understandable but tonight this place was empty. In the end, this place falls in the "take it or leave it" category.

We had initially planned for the short course but upon arrival, we decided to jump into the long one with wine pairings. I wish we'd stayed with the short. The food was, well, fairly bland. It was beautifully put together and clearly thought through carefully. The pairings were superb and really well matched with the dishes, but not even one Australian wine in the mix - I suppose I should have realized this would be the case as it is more of a European style restaurant. Unfortunately, the food itself was just super blah. Again, very pretty but just not at all interesting. We left a little too full and fairly sotted. The pours were generous so make sure you don't drive if you plan that option. I wish I could recommend Deer Duck Bistro. They have all of the elements in place. Great service, beautifully appointed space, clearly talented sommelier and obviously skilled kitchen. But the one thing you can't fix is taste. If their taste doesn't match your expectations or your preferences, it just isn't going to be the place for you.

You've probably driven past in a million times. Surprise! This is where Deer Duck Bistro resides (Side note: they're about to open a tapas bar just 2 doors up which excites me. Perhaps this stretch of Milton Road could actually be resuscitated). Anyway, the fact that Deer Duck exists in this space is kind of fantastic. Walking in the interior is a rich, dark and has a very British "Honey, we've just gotten back from a day of hunting" atmosphere. We dined there on a Friday night and there were only a handful of other diners around us. It was a set menu for $65 and they've now got their liquor license so are able to offer a small selection of beer, wines and spirits. The chap and I enjoyed a stupendously large sharing plate for an entree which was a selection of in-house baked breads, cornichons (I just like saying cornichons), meats, cheese and a delectable smoked artichoke dip. For mains, he had the fettucine with mussels and I opted for the ocean themed fish. I'm not sure what a fish has to do to be ocean themed? Dessert was the stand out for me. The chocolate forrest which is given it's own theatrics with a jar of dry ice and liquid nitrogen and the textured pineapple which is small yet ample with it's syrupy flavours. I enjoyed dining at Deer Duck Bistro and perhaps it was the result of building it up so much in my mind (It had been on my "To Dine" list for almost a year), that I just felt a little underwhelmed. There was nothing at all wrong with our dinner or experience, but it just didn't live up to my own expectations. Deer Duck Bistro is wonderful though, and the service was exceptional - we never wanted for anything. It is more of a special occasion dining experience, but I'll be back soon. If you're not a big fan of liver or raw fish, this menu option probably isn't for you. The prices a la carte are a tad exxy and hard to comprehend and we most likely probably won't be back... because 1) Milton Road's a ... and 2) We've kind of had better elsewhere for less of the price. If you're feeling fancy though, definetely worth a try. The food was okay actually - if you're into your fancy food like liver terrines and etc. Not sure about the warm cherry sauce and almond though.

I wish there was an option for zero stars because this is what I would give them. Our work team of six people were planning to have dinner here for Christmas. One of our colleagues requires a seeing eye dog. This restaurant first offered us a space inside and wanted to tie the dog up outside. Then when it was explained to them that it is a legal requirement to allow the dog inside the premises they then offered to put us in the back corner in case one of the customers complained. Not acceptable and completely discriminatory. Please wise up to the laws around allowing full access to all people! Regardless, I will never eat here and we have chosen to take our business to another welcoming restaurant.
