Look for the thai restaurant neon sign near Windsor train station and you've found The Low Road Cafe. For locals and commuters you're in for a treat with fresh Genovese coffee being poured and an interesting and unsurprisingly quirky menu on offer. I had stopped in for breakfast and was greeted with choices including a Breakfast Salad (haloumi, leaves, dukkah egg, asparagus) and more standard options like avocado on toast. In the end I set my sights on the Breakfast Banana Split - fresh banana, berries (raspberries and strawberries), toasted museli, grated dark chocolate, toasted coconut and, frozen whipped banana). Served in a sundae glass it felt a lot more "naughty" and calorie-laden than it actually was and the frozen whipped banana (a great recipe with ridiculous ease) gives this a creamy sensation without the regret later in the day! Verdict: The coffee is consistent and for commuters stoping enroute to the train, this is key. The menu is cute and quirky and from my experience today backs it up with the goods. Four weeks in since opening, locals have clearly adopted this new kid on the block as their own and there's already customer / barista first-name-basis relationships in action. But, to be honest, it didn't blow me away. It's a great staple for locals but not for a trip to visit here alone. read more

Low Road is the place to go for coffee that is made by people who give a shit about coffee and food that is simply deliciousness. I wish to preface my review by saying I know the owners so I'm somewhat biased but still doesn't change the fact that Low Road cranks out great food and awesome coffee out of a kitchen the size of a shoebox. These guys tell and serve it to you like it is. Order off the menu. Additions cost $, deal with it. Don't be on the phone when you order and don't bring you three wide pram and park in the middle of the main thoroughfare. If you are one person, sit at a table appropriately sized for your oneness. Coffee is Genovese and is consistently great. Food is tasty and reasonable portions for reasonable prices. There are often specials on the board so check those out. read more

It's a cute little cafe with a simple menu and Genovese coffee. Quite a few of my girlfriends got the smashed avo w/ haloumi on sourdough and I had the same but with gluten free toast. Sadly, when you get GF toast the pieces are smaller which mean less smashed avo :(. But everything was still tasty and the coffee was good. read more

I'm a sucker for an underdog. Hidden in a row of commercial shops adjacent to Windsor Train Station and hamstrung by a lack of signage, The Low Road Cafe still manages to offer what more well-placed and established eateries struggle to - a great atmosphere to accompany fantastic food and drink. If you're not too distracted by the lipstick pink palm trees or the raw-hide dessert case, the first thing you'll notice about The Low Road is how open it is. Inside runs to outside then over a parking lot and onto the lawn. The décor is a mishmash of Tiki retro that Brisbane has taken so well to, albeit thankfully without milk crate furniture. It's authentic without looking overdone. To the food. While short, the menu offers satisfying options for the health-conscious and hangover-prone alike. I went for The Low Road Beans, which came served under a dollop of chipotle sour cream, half an avocado and jalapenos ($14.50). Even with a healthy dose of cheese, it hit all the right hangover-notes without making me feel guilt later on. One of my friends ordered the avocado smash on sourdough ($12) and was rewarded with almost too-much of the green stuff (if that's possible), while the second had the home-made spaghetti on toast ($12). Served up with fresh basil leaves and crisp sea salt, the smell of it had even the waitress commenting. For locals on their daily commute, the place must be a blessing. The coffee is excellent and the wait times minimal--perfect for that pre-transit pick me up. Parking is ample for those coming from further afield. It's worth the trip, especially for those looking to avoid the rush found in similar, but more central establishments. Apart from location, what sets The Low Road apart is the service: Laid back isn't a euphemism for slapdash here. Everyone knows what they're doing and they make it look easy. Don't let that fool you, however, serving food this good is a challenge. The Low Road get's full marks for doing it, and doing it with style. read more

I love this place. I have loved every meal I have ordered here and the vibe is relaxed thanks to the awesome staff, decor/aesthetic, sense of humour (blackboard) and excellent music. My key picks for breakfast - mushrooms. Never had such zesty delicious mushrooms, with the perfect amount of parsley. My partner loves the breakfast beans, and hell yeah, so awesome. Cumin, chili and tomato; can't go wrong. If you want to add some meat, you can, chorizo is available. If I'm wanting a bit extra, I usually opt for the haloumi because it kicks so much butt. Bar food I had the other week was Parmesan fries with truffle oil, awesome. Also had nachos with chili con carne, yum. Will come back for breakfast and lunch/dinner! read more

Firstly, I am totally biased because I know for a FACT that the owners are thoroughly excellent people. Awesome owners aside, The Low Road do the most incredible "beans on toast" I have ever eaten, which is more like a Mexican feast suffocating a piece of bread. I'm not a fan of salad but gave the breakfast salad a go, which contained delicious haloumi, eggs and a refreshing sprinkle of dukkah and lemon dressing The coffee is pretty damn good, and you can't go wrong with a big swan statue for a breakfast companion. read more

Awful; rude service, bleh drinks. Okay food. I asked for no onion because I can't eat it. Sure, sure, no problem. Except, apparently, for the giant onion pices of garnish on top. She handed my pate over, literally saying "no onion". And when I mentioned the giant, obvious onions on top, I got attitude. Low road cafe is by far one of my favourite and go-to breakfast haunts in Brissy! Every meal is delicious, and every weekend is a new special to look forward to. The biggest dilemma you face is choosing the special or going with an old favourite on the menu! The beans are delicious and also the smashed avocado! It's a very trendy cafe and so much thought and detail goes into this cafe that it's clear their heart is on their sleeve, or should I say in their food and coffee! They are also now open for Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons/evenings and sell alcohol. To compliment this they have a great tapas menu, and the atmosphere is relaxed! Place is funky with a good looking young chef that also does everything else as well as pack up the furniture on closing. I'm a semi-regular here. Decent coffee and food on the go. They have an unfortunate tendency to put up obnoxiously militant, leftist messages, which are enough to spoil your appetite. The sit-down menu is not their strength, as it's pricey and can take a while. The staff are friendly, but occasionally forgetful. read more
