This is the first time I came here for a banquet. In previous years, the banquet was held at…read moreanother golf course. The venue was very beautiful with manicured lawns, a castle-like building, and a sufficiently large banquet hall for guests and a live band. The hors d'eouvres included spring rolls, phyllo triangles filled with cheese, and coconut shrimp. Since we were here on Star Wars day (May 4th), there were even green Yoda drinks with eyes and lime slices for ears. They definitely played up this theme all day and it was a really nice touch. What was noticeable throughout the evening was how good the food was. Everyone at the table said it was better than previous years at a different golf course. The antipasto, which is usually my least favorite dish, was really good. The beef entree was amazing. It was cooked perfectly medium on the inside with the same color pink throughout. The staff were courteous and accommodating. One person at our table asked for the personal caesar salad without bacon since the shared salad had bacon and we pretty much received another shared salad. Towards the end of the evening, the staff were clearing off tables while the banquet was winding down. But they were a little too quick to clear the tables that they took away someone's photo booth photos before those people came back to the table to claim their photos. Overall it was a really nice evening was excellent food at a stellar venue.

The driving range is a bit of a walk from the office where you need to purchase your balls, but the views are great! It'll remind you of the Microsoft desktop picture. There's plenty of bays to use with built in tees. Price is cost friendly compared to others as its city operated.

There were not very many houses around the course either. Since that time I played the Academy 9-hole course a number of times. I liked the Academy because it was very challenging for a short course. If you miss the fairway, there was a very high chance that you would lose your ball in the rough and/or fescue. The fescue is baaaaad. Don't even bother trying to hit out of it. I finally decided to try out the 18-hole course after years of procrastinating. I played on a Sunday afternoon at 3:01 pm (twilight starts at 3 pm, and super twilight at 5:30 pm). For $65 you get a cart for your 18 holes. I highly recommend getting a cart. There are a lot of hills and you won't enjoy your round if you had to carry your bag. Both the 9- and 18-hole courses are very well maintained. There are some tough spots (we played after it rained) and the bunkers can be brutal. We took free drops instead of playing out of the bunkers, especially after rain. Also a couple of the holes had very strange layouts. There were two greens that were absolutely hidden and nearly impossible to aim for unless you had played it before. Thankfully all the carts are fitted with GPS devices so you know how far you are from the green. The staff and marshalls were all very polite and kind. We had a slow group but the marshall tried her best to keep everyone moving. Their service really stood out to me. I would definitely play Braeben again. For $65 and the convenience of the course's location, I think it's a great value. You might have a tough time if you're a beginner because of the fescue and tight fairways, but there are some easy par 3s and straight 4s to keep you going.

Otherwise, this would've been an amazing day. The golf course has many practice areas available that some public access courses don't always offer, like driving range, putting green and chipping area--even a small bucket of relatively clean soapy water to dip and clean your clubs after. A few par 4's to keep the intermediate players interested and not too many obstacles that intimidate noobs like me. There are different wings, north, east, west, each with 9 holes. They will assign you the order you play in if you play all 18. We were paired with a retired couple, and they were sweet and cheered me on when I made some good plays. I'm sure there are better maintained courses out there but it was pretty good for a noob like me that usually plays on smaller public courses. Greens were relatively smooth and the rough isn't too tall that I can't find the ball afterwards. The clubhouse has indoor seating available and serves basic breakfast food, quick bites and refreshments. I appreciate the Haagen Dazs and canned iced Starbucks coffee at the end of my game during a hot day. Strolling inside the clubhouse the vicinity looks clean; Though I rather enjoy my refreshments outside on an umbrella-shaded patio.

I believe one of the City's MPP's came up with the idea to repurpose the Lakeview Golf Course. Whomever did, it was a great idea! The course is less than 5 minutes south of Dixie Mall and the entrance is sorta hidden. If you're going south on Dixie, the driveway is on the right/west side. So keep your eyes peeled! There is parking on-site and the trail is marked. Don't just follow the paved paths because most of them end abruptly. Like most golf courses, they're open fields with some rolling hills. So it can get quite windy! Dress accordingly, including a hat/gloves. Trail is dog-friendly, but dogs must be leased...and of course, you hafta pick-up after your dog. Trail is 2km and without any snow and if you're a fast walker, it took about 30 minutes to complete. Trail is open from 10-4pm, mainly because it gets dark early now! It was fairly dead when I went, so no need to worry about social distancing.
