For me to call myself an avid golfer would mean that I am a bold faced liar. To describe myself I am somewhere between not a golfer and hobby golf enthusiast. This is to say I enjoy the idea of golf, the allure of golf, but put me at a Tee box with a club in hand it's basically like handing a 4-year-old a bazooka - everyone is fair game, so hide yo kids, hide yo wives.... and hide yo husbands all up in this 'B'. ... you might even say Kris U "spends more time in the sand than David Hasselhoff" - Shooter McGavin (Happy Gilmour) (insert obnoxious bougie golf course douche-bag laugh) This is to say that my skill set in golf (or lack thereof) should not impact the experience provided at Lakeview GC. Sigh. I popped by the course for what is called "super twilight" golf (or 90 minutes to close) with a pal, and attempted to squeeze in the back-nine before sunset. Long story short, we made it but only because we decided to play best ball, there was virtually no one else crazy enough to be playing at this time, and we counted our score by the number of balls lost vs actually keeping score. But with the right conditions (and actual golf skills) you totally can play all or part of this course quickly. We each paid $46 for super twilight and a shared cart which was more than I expected to pay for a public course BUT given the level of this course (well kept, clean, many modern amenities) I was happy to pay this for a few hours of fun. Overall a fun experience, looking forward to coming back in warmer temperatures to work on my game next year.

The venue was very beautiful with manicured lawns, a castle-like building, and a sufficiently large banquet hall for guests and a live band. The hors d'eouvres included spring rolls, phyllo triangles filled with cheese, and coconut shrimp. Since we were here on Star Wars day (May 4th), there were even green Yoda drinks with eyes and lime slices for ears. They definitely played up this theme all day and it was a really nice touch. What was noticeable throughout the evening was how good the food was. Everyone at the table said it was better than previous years at a different golf course. The antipasto, which is usually my least favorite dish, was really good. The beef entree was amazing. It was cooked perfectly medium on the inside with the same color pink throughout. The staff were courteous and accommodating. One person at our table asked for the personal caesar salad without bacon since the shared salad had bacon and we pretty much received another shared salad. Towards the end of the evening, the staff were clearing off tables while the banquet was winding down. But they were a little too quick to clear the tables that they took away someone's photo booth photos before those people came back to the table to claim their photos. Overall it was a really nice evening was excellent food at a stellar venue.

The driving range is a bit of a walk from the office where you need to purchase your balls, but the views are great! It'll remind you of the Microsoft desktop picture. There were not very many houses around the course either. Since that time I played the Academy 9-hole course a number of times. I liked the Academy because it was very challenging for a short course. If you miss the fairway, there was a very high chance that you would lose your ball in the rough and/or fescue. The fescue is baaaaad. Don't even bother trying to hit out of it. I finally decided to try out the 18-hole course after years of procrastinating. I played on a Sunday afternoon at 3:01 pm (twilight starts at 3 pm, and super twilight at 5:30 pm). For $65 you get a cart for your 18 holes. I highly recommend getting a cart. There are a lot of hills and you won't enjoy your round if you had to carry your bag. Both the 9- and 18-hole courses are very well maintained. There are some tough spots (we played after it rained) and the bunkers can be brutal. We took free drops instead of playing out of the bunkers, especially after rain. Also a couple of the holes had very strange layouts. There were two greens that were absolutely hidden and nearly impossible to aim for unless you had played it before. Thankfully all the carts are fitted with GPS devices so you know how far you are from the green. The staff and marshalls were all very polite and kind. We had a slow group but the marshall tried her best to keep everyone moving. Their service really stood out to me. I would definitely play Braeben again. For $65 and the convenience of the course's location, I think it's a great value. You might have a tough time if you're a beginner because of the fescue and tight fairways, but there are some easy par 3s and straight 4s to keep you going.

Otherwise, this would've been an amazing day. The golf course has many practice areas available that some public access courses don't always offer, like driving range, putting green and chipping area--even a small bucket of relatively clean soapy water to dip and clean your clubs after. A few par 4's to keep the intermediate players interested and not too many obstacles that intimidate noobs like me. There are different wings, north, east, west, each with 9 holes. They will assign you the order you play in if you play all 18. We were paired with a retired couple, and they were sweet and cheered me on when I made some good plays. I'm sure there are better maintained courses out there but it was pretty good for a noob like me that usually plays on smaller public courses. Greens were relatively smooth and the rough isn't too tall that I can't find the ball afterwards. The clubhouse has indoor seating available and serves basic breakfast food, quick bites and refreshments. I appreciate the Haagen Dazs and canned iced Starbucks coffee at the end of my game during a hot day. Strolling inside the clubhouse the vicinity looks clean; Though I rather enjoy my refreshments outside on an umbrella-shaded patio.

I bombarded them with questions over email, they didn't leave a single one unanswered, they were quick to respond and very accommodating. The patience in answering multiple emails, questions and follow up questions is how I knew my experience here would be good. The good - The alcoholic drink options were okay, the variety wasn't large but the cocktails and mocktails were good. Food was good too. The karaoke was a bit confusing to navigate at first but we got the hang of it. There's something for everyone here and coming in a large group definitely made it worth it.
