This gym and all the franchise locations in the Richmond area are trash. Dirty smelly locker rooms, lazy and inattentive employees, and poor customer service. I canceled my membership and was told I would not be charged after the next billing cycle only to be charged two additional months after that. I went back to this location to cancel again and found the employee to be rude and dismissive! Never going back to golds again. Anytime Fitness is cheaper and has better service. read more

Personal trainers here are highly aggressive. I agreed to do a free session and that was a mistake. At one point in our session, dude pined me in my belly and called me "candy queen". Then wanted to charge me for the free session! He was highly aggressive and insulting when I tried to decline. I tried to cancel my membership almost immediately after because of that experience. However, they made it as difficult as they possibly could for me. When I finally caught the manager of the place, he was rude and dismissive. He clearly wasn't interested. I'd avoid this place. I was encouraged to ignore the horrible reviews and give this place a try by three buddies that go there. So I applied for the three day pass on the corporate website. I did not receive an email back. After a week or so I received call from a very pleasant staff member asking when I would like to start and I said the same night, She said she would leave the info with desk staff. When I got there I told the staff exactly what she said and he said we dont do that, He asked if I got an email and told him no. I repeated 3 times that she had called me earlier. He said if I wanted a pass I had to buy one. I asked him to look my free pass up in the computer and he said "he didnt do that" Then rudely said BUY THE PASS OR GET OUT!!! He said he would call the police if I didnt leave. WOW, I was astonished , left speechless, I was never rude to him. This is how they treat new potential members???? My buddy, standing there as a witness was bewildered as well. He had stood there witnessing without one word and then they told him he needed to buy pass or get out too! He said I'm a member, not not going anyplace. They never uttered any apology to him. I left, figured I would get it straight with management. LMAO ....NOT Management said staff was not trained to look up passes on computer and he the staff did "what he was trained to do" . I guess he was trained to greet new potential members like this, Never once apologized for his rudeness. Management offered to "make an exception" (an mental insult slap in the face) and grant me a one day pass. I was like but I applied for three day pass on corporate website. He said as a private franchise they "pick and choose which promotions to participate in". The facility is not cleaned daily. The ladies room it's not clean properly. the music is too loud. People go to the gym to work out people go in the gym to relieve stress so why are we hearing all of this loud music. This is not unacceptable read more

I really don't like the area that they're located in but when you go inside it looks like they have everything you could dream of a gym having. What thing that really upsets me about this gym is that I had called once and asked if I could do a Day Pass so I could attend a friend who teaches this like mixed fit type class and they told me it would be $10. Later on I have called again to confirm that a Day Pass would be $10, and they said it was.. I get there and I'm charged $20 because they said it's not $10 unless you have your friend who is a member with you. THAT would have been helpful if they told me that the two times I called! I don't go in at the same time she does because she shows up MUCH earlier in the day. (If I went with her I would pretty much be there for several hours and I have other stuff to do before I go to bed class.) All they simply had to say was, "It is $10 as long as you accompany someone who is already a member or $20 if your not with someone who is already a member." Not hard! ^ I know it's not much money but I just don't like being told one thing and then when I get there is something completely different. Why I just don't do a membership.. Well if they say one thing about a Day Pass and then I go in and it's something completely different I don't want to hear them offer me some membership deal and then turn around and have it be something completely different just like this Day Pass situation. That and I'm already a member of another gym that's closer to my house. I just wanted to do some cardio here and support a friend a couple times a month. read more

I've been a member here for about 5 months. Great location, lots of equipment, great free weight selection. On busy days it's still pretty easy to find what you need to work. 1 bright spot is the PTs are very engaging and nice. Maybe put the office in the front area there. The tiny office they occupy seems inadequate... Here is what management should know... and improve Keep the weight rooms in order. Figure out how to encourage lifters to put weights back in their proper place. I've been in on many occasions and the dumbbell racks are empty/disorganized. Maybe have an employee police these areas. I've seen too many times two people behind front desk on phones or chit chatting. Structure! Front desk staff seems distant and uninterested. They should greet me/ acknowledge me when I enter and leave and smile. It's not hard to do. Seems like a lot of exercise equipment is broken or turned off. Treadmills in particular. Some employees wear masks and others don't, is there a policy? I don't care either way, but it seems to be a free for all. read more

I joined this gym about a month ago but wanted to wait until I took a class before I gave my review. First off I took the Zumba class today 10/1 at 6/30pm and the instructor is Amazing. I was tired and out of breath but pushed through and completed the class. Burned over 600 calories. The class was packed. A little to pack. But I looked around and noticed there were kids in the classing as well. Why?? I counted at least 6 kids in the class taking away from paying members. That really annoyed me because the calls was packed and some of the kids had better spots. Let something happen and it will be a different story. I think they also need more staff to maintain the gym. Hopefully I don't cancel my membership for this issues. But given the lost cost membership I can't Complain about that. read more

The person that signed me up never let me know that I was limited to their particular locations, even after I had asked before I signed up. I learned after the fact that you can only use the locations owned by that particular franchise. Since I travel the country for work and love to experience all of the different Gold Gyms locations, this was a great disappointment to be limited to particular locations. When I told the manager he was not open to constructive criticism when I asked him that his employees make a point of letting new members know upfront that they can only use particular locations owned by the franchise. He pretty much made it seem like I was lying because in his 2 1/2 years he's never heard another complaint. BUT, it's interesting that at least (3) of the other locations that I visited that they told me that it was a major problem where members are confused about which locations are owned by a particular franchise. I've had a gym membership at least 3 other major franchises and Gold's Gym is the only one that limits their members from using all locations within the same city and state. Besides that, the Hopkins location is very small and the members tend to crowd each other on equipment, I stopped going to that location early on because even when the gym wasn't crowded the members there seem to lack courtesy of spacing out. read more

Love this gym! Extremely friendly and helpful staff! Good and balanced mix of clientele from the musclehead to the health conscious more "matured" persons. Every time any situation that needed attention has arisen , the staff were always quick to respond! The only reason I cannot give 5 stars is that I'd like to see a 24 hour facility in this franchise like the other has. read more

No cleanliness, in general area or locker rooms/bathrooms. Blaring music in the power lifting room I can't even hear my own music with headphones in.. half the sanitizer spray bottles are always empty or non existent. dumbbells, plates everywhere like no one cleans up after themselves. We've come during different times of the day and it's never any different. read more

I have been trying to cancel my membership and I have come in and was told the person with the code was not in. I was also told that the only time I could was Mon-Fri between the hours of 10am-6pm which are the hours I work. The other options was I needed to send a certified letter stating I wanted to cancel. Why do they make it so difficult to cancel a membership. I wanted to speak with the manager and was just left on hold. This is an awful way to do business with so many other gyms offering the same benefits. I would never recommend this gym to anyone. I asked for a copy of the cancellation policy and was told to hold on then they hung up. And no where in the contract does it list a timeframe of when you can cancel it States to deliver written notice or certified. read more

I must say that I am glad to be able to have nothing, but positive things to say about this Golds gym location. To start off the location is one of the newer Golds gym which is an added plus. Each time I've visited the employees were nice and greeted us when we came in to workout. This location has a kids club, a sauna in the locker rooms, cinema room, women's only section, group exercise classes/rooms, and the setup seems to be different than others. Things I enjoy here: women's only section which is pretty unique as I haven't seen this at other Golds, the amount of various machines, clean gym, friendly staff, location, and I'm sure there is more. I really have no negative things to say although I wish they were open longer on weekends. Another positive is that their personal trainers don't nag you like others locations do to sign up for personal training which is great. read more

At one point I really enjoyed this location the staff has always been friendly, the gym always gets updated equipment, and the members always bring out the best in you. However recently I've witnessed some of the golds gym "trainers" at the gym taking pictures of other members. Particularly male trainers taking pictures of the women. After witnessing this today I would not recommend this gym for any women and I will be having my husband cancel our membership. read more

Horrible customer service. Assistant manager was very condescending. Makes it difficult for you to cancel your service. Tried to make me out to be a liar. Someone told my fees were waived and I only owed $20. You can only cancel in person before 6 or by sending a certified notice.Turns out I was telling the truth. This was verified once I called 1-800-897-6877 as well the Colonial Heights location to look at my account. He told me I could only talk to him. When I asked another young lady to get the manager he told me I have no right to talk to her. Really took me out of my character because he acted as if I was lying. At this point I will never join another Gold's Gym ever. read more

Great gym, well equipped, no issues except for the guy who insists in using the squat rack's pull up bar to do gymnastics when he could just go use the regular pull up bar and get the heck out of the way of the people trying to squat... maybe staff should intervene somehow? Otherwise, staff is friendly, gym is neat, and price is very reasonable. read more
