People walking around shirtless, dripping sweat, stinking, in bare feet, only socks, crocs, and Teva sandles. Nasty. Old dilapidated and low quality dumbbells, only 2 old treadmills and a few of the manual treadmills, no fixed weight barbells, a bathroom falling apart with the toilet bowl cover hanging on by one hinge. No air conditioning. Hot and smelly. Humid atmosphere. Couldn't draw up a worse gym in my imagination. To me it's 1 star but I guess to cross fit cultists this is what they like. Only a few smoothie choices and no chicken wraps or anything in their nutrition bar or whatever it's called. If you know how to work out and don't need or want a trainer or group then this place is definitely not for you. They do an incredible job on marketing and must edit photos or take superb angles like a catfish on tinder. Almost thinking they pay influencers to hype this place up. Either way I'd prefer the most basic Planet Fitness or Crunch 100x over this. In fact I'd rather get chubby and not work out over having to work out in an environment like this again.

In 2016 I received a complete left hip replacement and stopped working out completely. After lots of research, I found Rudy Ulloa and consistently worked with him 3 to 4 times a week from 2019 to 2023 ; I only stopped working with Rudy because I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I learned a lot from Rudy about the proper way to exercise and the best way to maintain a diet that was going to produce excellent outcomes. Because of Rudy, I consider myself to be in the best shape I have ever been but most importantly, I no longer suffer from constant pain and frequent injuries. I highly recommend Rudy to anyone looking for a trainer who is going to individualize a plan that is best for them and their unique body. Rudy is extremely courteous, very personable and friendly, highly attentive to your needs, and he is also very flexible and accommodating with your personal schedule. I envisioned that my clothes would fit better, friends and family relationships would be fixed, and going to the pool would be more positive. I did everything that I could think of: meal prepping, going to the gym, ordering off of the "skinny" menu, buying trendy workout clothes to motivate me more. At the time, I was embarrassed that I was in this situation, and so I wanted to work on my insecurity, on my own. One day, I became frustrated at my level of insecurity and even more so, acknowledge that perhaps my "friends" weren't friends if they contributed to my insecurity. I came across a boot camp and without much thinking (because I didn't want to think too much of it) signed up for three times a week of boot camp for 8 months with a trainer and her female only group of trainees. I went to my first day, expecting the worse - that my insecurities would flare up and that all I would want to do was to fibble through the workout and not come back. Perhaps it was the trainer? Perhaps it was a good day at work? Perhaps pigs flew over our Texas skies, but I plopped my cleaned, unused mat and water bottle in the middle of the class and danced as if no one was watching. Soon enough, I realized that those around me were going through the same experiences. Some were encouraging, inspiring, motivating and eager to help. There was never any discussion on how someone should. There was no "should" way to lose weight, no "should" way to diet and no "should" way to do the exercise. The point was to get active and have fun doing whatever you're doing. Although I don't' reside close enough to attend the boot camp today, it is two years later, and I am attending other boot camps and doing the same exercises I learned from my brief 8 months at Buda Texas Fit Chicks. The new version of me is healthier. Since losing some weight, my priorities has change to where I don't need to go back on my old visions of myself. I don't care what pool people are thinking (if they are even thinking of me at all). I don't follow a strict "should" of boiled grilled chicken and broccoli recipe. I do whatever I feel is right for me and have fun doing it which is what I've learned during this boot camp. Thumbs up!

    Let me say right away that trainers like Chika are incredibly rare. You probably already know how…read moremany trainers are out there who just immerse you immediately into physically demanding cardio without understanding the state of your body, what your tolerances are, and without regard for proper position during exercise. I have been taking private sessions with Chika at South Congress Athletic Club for eight months. Her knowledge of the human body is amazing and she is committed to your improvement, injury-free. She understands every twinge, every little strange sensation in your knee or back, and teaches you that you should pay attention to these messages from your body. She will help you if you already have injuries and teaches you how to prevent them. I'm a dancer--a ridiculously old dancer. But as much as I love it, the injuries, the pain, and Cortisone injections in my knee were getting me down. I had a membership at a gym and had been trying various machines trying to strengthen my legs to support my knees, but everything felt like I was damaging my knees further. I also had a shoulder injury that needed help. I went to Chika to find out what movements were destroying my knees; to get help with flexibility and strength in one shoulder; and to develop a general strength-building series of personalized exercises for what I wanted to do that I could learn to do on my own. She spent the first session observing how I move. I was so anxious to dive into strength-building, I didn't even realize how important this was. She identified the crazy imbalance between my left and right side that I didn't even realize was going on (and mind you I dance looking at a mirror constantly). She told me we had to correct this first in order to keep me from injuring myself. That did not take long and soon I was constantly employing the little tricks she showed me to balance myself out and I began functioning equally on both sides. That's when the real fun started. Her workouts are truly fun. Have you ever had fun doing abs? No crunches! I am so much stronger and I'm able to lift quite a bit of weight with my legs with NO KNEE PAIN. She also worked with my chiropractor to further develop a shoulder exercise and we worked that into my routine. Because of Chika I avoided a costly knee operation and I've strengthen my legs to prevent future injury; I understand the value of listening to my body when it is telling me something is a little off; and I have way more fun doing my strength-building workouts on my own. And when I go to my sessions with Chika, I look forward to it and we have fun, we laugh, but I'm still working my butt off!

My journey with Katie started right after a really difficult time in my life. I was heavier than I had ever been (by a lot!), was stressed out and anxious, and definitely was not putting my health first. When we started working together the workouts were awesome but I wasn't seeing the results I wanted because my diet and lifestyle was not changing. It wasn't until Katie and I had a heart to heart that I started examining the root causes of my unhealthy lifestyle and made the commitment to change.
