There is so much choice of delicious Indian dishes and also a European menu. The restaurant was clean with beautiful decor and a wonderful view over the Clyde with the ferry to Cumbrae going back and forth. The service was excellent and friendly. We've decided to go there again over Christmas! For some people access might be difficult at the restaurant is upstairs without a lift. The staff seem happy to help those who have difficulties by carrying pushchairs or bags, etc. They also do a take away service and the restaurant is open at lunchtimes as well as evenings. Sometimes you're lucky and can park in the street outside or around the corner, otherwise there is a large car park directly opposite (costing £2).

It's an old building, and obviously the stair carpet was well worn so gives the wrong idea of what to find, the staff greeted us immediately and were very courteous, not very many people inside as he had actually had new carpets fitted in the main restaurant so he explained he had to cancel the buffet for that day. We did not wait very long for a pre dinner drink or the menu. Ordered house special saffron rice and chicken korma and lamb rogan josh poppadoms etc. The meal arrived within ten minutes, and it was absolutely delicious- the meat was very nice not this tumbled chicken you tend to get now and the lamb was succulent and soft it melted in your mouth. The owner was a great hospitable guy who could not do enough for you, and his wife and the young English guy waiter were very friendly. The meal cost £28.50 for two people absolute bargain. The best Indian meal we have tasted in a long time, deserve 5stars.

However, once you go through the door a pleasant surprise awaits. The restaurant has been decorated well in a modern indian style which seems to convey character without being too kitsch. The food is well prepared and the range is good. The Dehli lamb is well worth trying. Service is prompt and helpful. Although from the outside it looks like no palace after a meal here you will not feel it is inappropriately named.

When we walked in we were the only people there, normally not a good sign although the fact we were early and they had just opened stopped us from an about turn. That was a good decision. The food was very tasty with very quick service. The Onion Bhaji has great flavor and the side salad, so often just a soggy afterthought with any appetizer was very fresh. The Combo Ceylonese curry had chicken lamb and prawns in it a huge portion. Flavor was distinct and tasty. The Chicken Nassimilee had more heat, but was again a dish with great flavor. Portion again was big, which gave us the chance to take it home for lunch the following day. Food was washed down with Kingfisher beer and a sweet Mango Lassi. Will return for sure

In the heart of Perthshire lies a wee village called Methven. Through it's centre is one long main…read morestreet which has a smattering of shops, pubs and a garage...and then you come across the absolute delight that is Chatni, a contemporary Indian restaurant that is a joy to behold. This restaurant is extremely popular among those in the know and, given they don't ever advertise (or so I'm told), their patrons are largely there through word of mouth. I thought therefore it was time to spread the word a bit further afield! This is the second time I've been here, and it was just as wonderful and delicious as the first time. The restaurant itself is within a small cottage, although manages to appear quite spacious once you're inside with elegant and sophisticated decor. On this particular Thursday night, our group of 15 was welcomed with open arms and made to feel welcome from the get go. The times I have been here, the restaurant ticks away with a variety of folk, from couples having a romantic dinner, to families enjoying their evening meal. What makes this place very special is the level of attention given to every diner, and the staff obviously knew some of their customers well...it's a testament to the restaurant that these diners come back time and time again! Once seated, our drinks order was taken and the drinks arrived from a fairly well stocked bar. Well, most of the drinks arrived! I seem to recall having to remind them to bring my drinks on both occasions I have been here however, the waiting staff are so utterly charming it's impossible to be cross with them! For starters, our table decided on a mix of poppadoms and pakora with dips. The pakora, both chicken and vegetable, were light and tasty and the accompanying dip was yummy (almost like a creamy mango chutney to me although I should have really asked what it was!). We were enjoying these so much we completely forgot we'd ordered main meals! Now, it took 15 of us quite a long time to decide what we were having for our mains, and the staff were on hand with information and helpful suggestions as to what we should try. They were happy to cook the dishes according to our taste, and even told us we could try the dishes we'd ordered and if we didn't like them they would cook us something else. I have never been offered that in a restaurant before and it was a refreshing change! The mains were largely the same as you would get in most Indian restaurants with the addition of a Rezala curry (creamy AND spicy...for those folk who like a Korma but wish it had more of a kick), however what sets them apart is the fact the dishes are so fresh and light with delicious ingredients. You didn't get that 'bagged up' feeling you sometimes get following an Indian meal. My king prawn rezala was exceedingly tasty and to accompany it was a mix of mushroom, pilau and special fried rice. The peshwari naan is just about the finest I've ever tasted and achieves exactly the right balance of flavours to make my taste buds smile and jump up and down! Other highlights from my fellow diners included the chicken pathia and chilli masala. Following our meal, any leftovers were duly boxed up and given to us to take home to grateful partners or flat-mates...I don't think I would have given mine away though, it was too good to share! We weren't rushed following our main courses and by that point we were happy and comfortably full enough to not require desserts...I'm fairly certain they would be just as fabulous though. With drinks included it roughly worked out about £25 a head and it was worth every penny. The restaurant offers a delivery service at weekends, can cater for up to 45 guests and also do events catering. They also seemed quite happy to offer a set menu, if requested. As you can tell, I love this restaurant and only wish we could re-locate it to Edinburgh so I can visit it more frequently. Lets hope they continue to serve wonderful Indian food in their wee spot in Perthshire for many years to come.
