Came here for the first time and split a sundae with my wife. The flavor and portions were on point, my only bummer was that there weren't enough toppings. I feel like a good sundae should have either chocolate sauce, nuts, or something else with each bite. There were sadly more than a couple masked bites with just the frozen yogurt (which admittedly was very tasty). The server was very friendly and served people quickly, so all told it was a positive experience. read more

I was excited to find that there is a yogurt shop near my office in La Mesa, as it can get really hot over there in the summertime. I have now been to Golden Spoon twice, though I didn't buy anything the second time. Last summer I went there for the first time. I noticed that the shop was clean, but could probably use a bit of a touch up with the interior, as it is looking slightly outdated. I also noticed that the selection was a somewhat underwhelming. However, service was friendly. Then I chose the plain tart, which has always been my favorite yogurt flavor, as well as salted caramel. The yogurt was good and luckily didn't melt too quickly. I went back recently, this summer. I had been trying to eat healthy and couldn't remember the selection from the time before, but had been hoping for some fat-free and low calorie options. I also had to drive and run a lot of errands afterward, so was hoping for a sort of shake or smoothie with fruit blended in. When I arrived, the attendant was helping another customer, so I had time to study the menu. I looked it over and realized again that the selection was rather small. I saw the same plain tart and salted caramel that I had chosen previously, but not much else, and no fat-free or low calorie options. Also, the shake selection was a bit decadent instead of the light yogurt and fruit blend I had hoped for. Though I do love my plain tart, I chose to leave without purchasing anything, as they simply did not have what I wanted that day. Given the location, I'll probably return sometime. However, I will most likely only go when I am in the mood for the few flavors that I know they have. read more

High quality soft serve and yogurt served up high. There weren't too many options but there usually is a base tart yogurt, salted caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, and seasonal fruit mix. There were also prepackaged containers of sorbet and oreo cookie sandwiches in a freezer near the front. The toppings were neatly organized although the selection was simpler than others. The toppings were on the expensive side, costing $1.25 for mini and $2.25 for regular. The ratio skews heavily on the yogurt so I don't find the toppings to be worth the extra cost. *Salted Caramel: classic and consistently good. Very creamy and rich with subtle saltiness at the end. *Passionfruit Guava: a more tart and refreshing option. The guava was very pronounced. This was the perfect balance of sour and sweet. *Raspberry: rarely do I find berry flavored items to have such an umph. This had such a good body and fruitiness that it ranks highly in my world of sorbets. *Strawberry Lemonade: the sweet strawberry complemented the sour lemon base very well. It quenched our thirst from the rising heat. The employees make the prettiest swirls and even the mini is piled up high. I find the mini portion to be just right although the regular is great for trying multiple flavors. read more

Clean spot with indoor and outdoor seating. Our ice cream was really good and all of the fruit toppings were very fresh. The gentleman working was very kind. Three of us got fro-yo and one of us got an açai bowl! It was all really good. The açai bowl was incredible! We want to go back and try the other flavors. Never had Golden Spoon until now, but I like the concept of a shop that offers soft serve, sorbet, and frozen yogurt all in one. I am a froyo lover and came across Golden Spoon while I was in the area. It was different experience than going to a self-serve place for froyo, but the girl swirled our small cups to the top, so generously! I enjoyed my tart flavor and their strawberry as well, and I would have preferred that one actually. They have a handful of toppings that you would desire. The spoons are golden like the name of the shop. It's pretty standard, but the variety of options for frozen treat is a nice option to have for dessert in La Mesa. read more

Great quality, great quantity, great value. Came here in for a late night sweet treat with my girlfriend upon her recommendation. This frozen yogurt shop offers a small variety of flavors with great quality. They also offer a lot of toppings. Unlike other frozen yogurt shops, they don't charge by weight and they offer fixed sizes. We ended up getting strawberry shortcake and tart with some peanut and rainbow sprinke toppings. They offer a very generous amount of toppings which I was very pleased with. The gal working over the counter was also very patient with letting us try different flavors. There isn't too much seating available at this shop with maybe 4-5 tables indoors and 2-4 tables outside. Definitely more than enough for a small party to grab a quick sweet treat and go on about their day. read more

The frozen yogurt was tasty. It's a clean and quiet shop. The young lady who helped me was very nice and informative when I had a couple questions. If you live or drive past La Mesa, don't forget to stop by. The frozen yogurt here is sooo good! It is addicting. I tried the strawberry shortcake with mochi and popping boba, which they put in the middle. It's so good and has the right amount of sweetness. The service is amazing!! They are friendly and let you try some flavors. The place is quiet with seating inside and out. We opted for outdoor seating because of our doggo and also the nice breeze. 10/10 will come back to get more of the strawberry shortcake. The hubby and I had no idea Golden Spoon was in our backyard until we drove by it one night. We were thrilled knowing it's a quick drive away to indulge in a cup of sweet delicious frozen yogurt. There was a line out the door when we arrived, so we knew this location had to be good. The employees could not have been any nicer, we're very cheerful and bubbly. My husband ordered a cup with strawberry shortcake on one side and banana cream pie on the other. Both were mellow flavors that reminded us of our childhood. I ordered a cup of raspberry and made my husband jealous because it was delicious, tangy, and tasted so good. The serving sizes are very generous and they have a wide selection of toppings to choose from. They have rotating flavors along with their standard classics. I have been going to this place for a very long time. They always had salted caramel frozen yogurt as an option. I only like salted caramel frozen yogurt hence why I always go here. The last time I visited I talked to either the owner or owners son. We had a conversation about salted caramel flavor and how I told him you guys always have it. He said "salted caramel is one of golden spoons set flavors and is always an option". I went there tonight to get the usual and it wasn't there. Very disappointing and was replaced by a stupid Halloween pumpkin mumbo jumbo spice flavor that no one likes. Stick to your word golden spoon. Lost a life long customer. read more

Not all Golden Spoon's are created equal and this particular location is not up to par. I ordered a mini with two flavors and instead of the employee putting them in the cup next to each other she put one on the bottom and the other on the top. I realized after she gave it to me that she did this because the ice cream was not firm enough to stand up on its own in the cup. It would have been nice if her to communicate to me that my choice was not quite ready to be served and given me the option to change flavors instead of just putting melted ice cream in the bottom of my cup and semi melted ice cream on top of it. The picture I've included shows my ice cream before I even had a chance to take a bite. I walked to my car and took the photo--melted. I've had great experiences at other Golden Spoons, but unfortunately this one wasn't good. read more

I am really not a sweets person but this place holds a special soft part in my heart for me. I use to work in La Mesa and on a hot summer day this would always be our sweet treat go to. I recently came back to enjoy it again and it definitely hasn't changed. Their flavors are ON POINT and the topping options are always fresh. I decided to give this place another try yesterday since I was in the area and craving soft serve, and I had to update my review to say they won me over lol. Their chocolate is honestly really good! Chocolate is always reliable for me, so I'm glad I went for that instead of toasted marshmallow this time. I will say that their oreo cookies are definitely a knockoff brand, so getting a bite of them mostly on their own isn't the best, but when you mix your toppings into the ice cream it's pretty yummy! I enjoyed it so much yesterday actually that I came back today for the same thing in a bigger size. The ladies working the front have been very nice both times :) I love to sit outside under the shade in their tables out front. Ice cream and shade with some trendy music coming from inside makes for a relaxing summer experience. Glad I gave them another try. read more

Golden spoon's yogurt is delicious and the toppings are fresh. There's also a decent selection and friendly service. The portion sizes are just SO small! The price of a mini is 4.95 for the yogurt and the toppings are an additional 1 dollar for two toppings. When I got my yogurt there was just a tiny scoop of topping and the smallest dollop of sauce. I acknowledge I ordered a mini, but it was exceptionally tiny, and barely was filled past the top. While it tasted great, I didn't feel like I got a good value. read more

Our family loves Golden Spoon! We used to go to the one in Chula Vista before they closed. Now we happily make the trek to La Mesa. I tried the salted caramel today and found my new favorite! We were served by Julia & Taylor. They were patient with us as most of the 7 in our group wanted to try flavors. We like that there is indoor and outdoor seating. And we also like that their register keeps track of our purchases instead of us having to carry around a punch card for rewards. We'll be back! read more

We found this place on Yelp and it was within walking distance to the rehab facility my Mother-in-law was staying (Country Manor). So glad we took the time to come here. My husband can't have dairy so he was thrilled hey had two non-dairy options. He got the coconut milk sundae. I had the peanut butter with hot fudge sauce. We got the medium. I ordered pumpkin pie and cappuccino with yoghurt chips; it was amazing!! I've tried pumpkin pie flavor from different places but this is the best one so far. Super tasty ice cream right in La Mesa! A must visit ice cream stop when in La Mesa! There are so many flavors of ice creams and sorbets to choose from! Yep, you heard that right, different flavors of SORBETS ! I was in shock when I read the menus... it was a little confusing but there is truly something for everyone on this menu! I enjoyed a "single" scoop of Raspberry Sorbet on a sprinkle cup and it was delish. I forget how large the servings are here. Don't be fooled by the sizes, they will top off the cup which looks like double the amount that's in the cup. I personally think they have the best tasting froyo and they have a good amount of toppings as well. read more

Toppings are expensive and they do NOT display prices on their menu! Alright, now we can continue with the rest of the review. I came here before a doctors appointment one day. Parking lot is pretty much always bare since there isn't a lot of big name stores around here other than the Vons right around the corner. I read the description of this place before coming in. Saying they served ice cream and yogurt. When I came inside though there was no indication of what they really served. I asked the girl behind the counter if they sold ice cream of frozen yogurt. "Well.." she started. "It's ice cream that's been lowered in sugar and fat. It's kinda like gelato? If that makes sense?" It didn't, but that didn't worry me. I ordered the regular size cup with peanut butter ice cream with strawberry toppings. When I checked in yelp, it gave me a free one topping coupon which I used. The girl said, "Okay so the one topping is $1.50... oh wait, duh, you got the free topping on yelp!" 1.50 for a topping?! No wonder they don't post the prices. That's so high! Normally to fill up a frozen yogurt at a normal establishment with a lot of frozen yogurt and millions of toppings it generally comes out to $5 and some change. Here for a small "normal" cup and one topping (even with my free topping coupon) it came out to $4.75! Which meant if I didn't have the free topping from yelp this would have come up to $6.25! That's high! The peanut butter ice cream was good but a little off. It tasted like a creamer version of frozen yogurt with a milk after taste. Odd I agree. Parking is great, service was phenomenal, I don't know the name of the associate that helped me but she was a younger girl which a short bob haircut and a Monroe piercing. Ice cream is good but weird at the same time and the prices are ridiculous. I looked up on older photos of the menu from yelp and they USE TO display the prices of toppings. Guess they realized that the only way to get people to pay those prices are to trick them into finding out once they've already made their order. No thank you. I must confess. This was a Plan B visit. We were originally going to another place to get a free froyo for the unofficial National Frozen Yogurt Day. After picking up Daughter from school and driving past the ridiculously long line of customers out the frozen yogurt store's door, I muttered something inappropriate then pulled over to check the handy dandy search app for the next nearest frozen yogurt location. Parking was a breeze at the strip mall and it wasn't busy at all. Just us and the cheerful gal behind the counter. Mini-me picked strawberry plus some toppings. I was feelin' kinda sorbet, so strawberry-kiwi flavor for me. The gal did her froyo artistry and also asked if Mini-me preferred the pink colored gummy frog from the array of available toppings. Approved. I think my kid liked the sorbet better since she spun the cup around leaving the mostly strawberry froyo side to me. Other notables: free yogurt stamp card and a yelp check-in 10% discount with minimum $5 purchase. Note to self: I need to remember to bring hair ties next time to keep Mini-me's locks from the froyo treatment. read more

Established in 2005.

The Golden Spoon story began in 1981 as an outgrowth of "Yogurt and Things," a health food store in Tustin, California acquired by Golden Spoon founder Jeff Barnes in 1980. Within a year, Barnes opted to leave the "Things" behind and focus solely on frozen yogurt with the goal of creating a more broadly appealing, and healthier frozen dessert than anything available on the market at the time. Barnes succeeded and sales at his original Tustin store more than doubled within those first few years. In 1983, the Golden Spoon brand name was born.

I've had Red White and Badass Brew one other time after my husband raved about this cookies and cream latte he got here. It's a small, local, veteran owned shop, which honestly makes supporting it feel even better. So, I thought getting his favorite drink would help, but turns out that was a seasonal winter drink... please bring it back, it was sooo good. I got in line around 8:30 and there were two cars in front of me. This place is so small and cute, I actually used to work in one of these drive-thru kiosk style cafes so I didn't mind the short wait at all as usually its only one or two people working in there. I do wish they had a menu visible from the line because I couldn't decide what I wanted while waiting. The only things visible were the specials like an avocado toast and a "no lucks given" drink. I ended up pulling up the menu on my phone which works, but it would be more convenient if they had something displayed out front like a sandwich board or something. The employee was incredible, super friendly, my order was taken quick and my drink came out even quicker. It is a little on the pricier side for a cup of coffee but you are supporting a local business. With tip it came out to over $9 for a regular size. I ordered the no lucks given, which is a chocolate Irish cream latte, and swapped to oat milk. My first sip was amazing, a medium dark roast that wasn't bitter at all with a rich chocolate flavor. You could see the chocolate coating the walls of the cup and I'm pretty sure there was a cold foam on top that made it extra creamy. The overall drink was smooth and well balanced, just a little too sweet for my liking but that's something I can adjust next time. I did have a kind of odd moment though. My second sip was great until I got hit with a sudden punch of salt. Like a full on salt crystal just melted on my tongue for a good 10 seconds. It was strong and definitely woke me up... which I guess is what the coffee was supposed to do, I just didn't expect a surprise salt bomb to help with that. After that I checked my drink and everything looked fine and the rest of it tasted great. Overall I'll definitely be back. The service was great, the drink was solid, and I love supporting a spot like this. I can't wait to come here more often, and hopefully one day come back with my husband when comes home from deployment, with his cookies and cream drink back on the menu.

Joe Paraiso, the owner, is a very experienced coffee purveyor, and he's been incredibly kind to me, sharing his time and knowledge to make sure I get what I want. And, not for nothing, when I'm at Brew Coffee Spot picking up the beans I ordered online, I always have a coffee. Joe either does a great job of training his baristas, or he's REALLY good at hiring talent, or both. I chose to use their honey syrup instead of regular honey, and was not disappointed with my iced oatmilk latte also, I have to point out something you don't typically see at a lot of coffee shops.
