I originally found this spot because I had gotten into a car accident and needed to get some attention to stiffness in my shoulder, neck, and back from the accident and found this place through a Google search. Anahita was very helpful in her consultation and took great care to learn about my needs, my lifestyle, and areas she felt that needed work. My first visit was a consultation and session and my two sessions thereafter were a continuation of the treatment. I came here for treatment for elbow tendonitis (most likely due to mousing on my computer). It was covered by Worker's Comp, and I came here for 12 sessions. I made steady progress - nothing mind blowing -but I definitely left a lot better than when I came. I saw both Jamie and Anahita for my treatments. Both seemed excellent in their techniques. I decided to go exclusively to Anahita for my last round of 6 treatments and I really liked her quiet and professional demeanor. It's a very relaxing environment and Sienna (the receptionist) is very friendly. The appointments start right on time, which I appreciated. I am a Marine Corps Veteran who uses the VA's Veterans choice program. I visited two other acupuncturist clinics before coming to Golden Leaf. I currently see Dr. Anahita Forati and I could not be happier about it. She is very personable and makes you feel very comfortable right off the bat. I also ask a lot of questions during our sessions and she always takes the time to give very detailed responses and explanations for what she is doing. We mostly focus on dry needling sessions followed by a few needles left in (at which point I promptly fall asleep every time). The dry needling has been a huge game changer for me, I used to have chronically tight muscles that restricted my mobility and were often the source of musculoskeletal injuries. With the dry needling, the release of the muscle is very noticeable and it has increased both my active and passive range of motion which has improved my posture and allowed me to get back into intense workouts without pain. The difference I see in myself between now and before I started with Anahita is astounding. I feel amazing, my athleticism has increased dramatically, and my body composition has improved a lot; all of which I do not think would have changed at all if I didn't start coming to Golden Leaf. I highly recommend Drs. Anahita and Jamie at Golden Leaf Acupuncture. I have been seeing them to treat my stiff neck. We are slowly starting to unravel the tightness after years of having a saxophone hanging from it. I have more range of motion as a result of their combined treatments and the release of the muscles is very noticeable. On the doctor: When you find a doctor that is friendly yet professional, serious about helping you feel better yet throws a funny, unexpected comment at you to make your ailing butt lighten up, ON TIME yet thorough... and MOST of all, COMPASSIONATE, you'll follow her wherever she goes. This is what I did with my acupuncturist. Dr. Anahiti relocated her office (same city, different office) to start a community acupuncture center because she's dedicated to helping people. ALL. PEOPLE. Read: affordable health care. Trust me, you want her in your network of healers! The last time I went for a dr. appt I had serious shoulder and back pain. Dr. Anahita, who also dispenses chinese herbs, gave me something for my back. It worked far better than the Advil I was taking. On the office: Goldenleaf is one of those places that makes you thankful to live in the bay area. They have rooms with the most comfortable chairs, you just may fall asleep! Patients sit together while the little needles (which don't feel anything like syringe needles) do their work. There are also private treatment areas for health issues requiring more attention. The office is small but charming and pristine. A few rooms have skylights and I really dug the hardwood floors. On location: For your appointment leave a little early, the office is by UC Berkeley so be careful of students scrambling to class and drivers pulling in and out of parking spaces. When I got a cold 3 days before I was taking off for a 2 week trip to Italy I didnt know what to do! Luckily I went to see Anahita. She gave me some potent herbs, treated me with Acupuncture, which, by the way, was so gentle I fell asleep, and she sent me on my way. I pinched a nerve in my neck in the middle of the night, and suffered through a full day at work, and a restless night of sleep. The next day, I called Golden Leaf to make an appointment to see if anything could be done for my pain. Dr. Jamie managed to squeeze me in that very afternoon. An hour later, I can move my head and neck! (I suffered through almost two days of not being able to move my head/neck at all! I rarely get sick, and when I do it's usually for a few short days and I'm back to myself. This year, was different though. I'd been sick for nearly 2.5 months and counting! It first started with a dry cough, which then became very phlegmy, then I became very stuffy, and finally my ear started hurting, and I could no longer hear from my right ear. I'd visited my general practitioner 3 times and while she explained I'd had some phlegm build up which had affected my ear, nose, and throat, her explanations were otherwise limited. Initially she prescribed me a codine cough syrup, next a nasal spray, and finally antibiotics. I saw absolutely no results with anything. Friends advised I cut out dairy, alcohol, and sweets. All of which I did, but again, not much was changing. The ear ache was becoming very bad, and I was beginning to lose a lot of energy as well. Finally a friend recommended I go visit Dr. Anahita Forati of Golden Leaf. While I had heard about acupuncture and lots about Chinese medicine, I wasn't too sure, and really I went because I had tried everything I could think of. I arrived and was greeted by a very courteous staff. Dr. Forati took the time to really talk with me -- my general practitioner had spent a total of about 20min with me in all those 3 visits. She asked me questions and then put together an herbal mix for me. I also had an acupuncture session - which was amazing. Dr. Forati, gave me very specific instructions for the next 7-days and asked me to send her an email update. I did so, and she gave me further dietary instructions. Having never had acupuncture treatments before, I really appreciated that Dr. Jamie was patient with explained the entire process to me during my first appointment. I have also been treated my Dr. Anahita who told me that the greatest compliment was when her patients fell asleep during treatment. (I have to say I have fallen asleep every single time) I dig the atmosphere and natural light in their building, free parking, delicious tea upon arrival, and giant mirror on the wall in one treatment room so I can smear the tissue marks off my waking face before embarking out into the world again. Most recently I have been having acupuncture treatment here regularly for the past 6 months to help me through a major operation and recovery. Both Dr. Anahita and Dr. Diane are superb practitioners. I saw Dr. Anahita Forati once for chronic shoulder and neck pain: her care was skilled and unstinting. When I called from home, soon after the appointment, to say that the pain had already returned (I wasn't complaining, but simply wondering if this was normal), she insisted that I come right back, then worked until the pain definitively left, at least for the evening. But even more notable, she was honest in advising me that acupuncture might not be the best approach for my particular problem, and that as I'd recently started with a physical therapist, I might want to wait before deciding to continue with acupuncture. A month later, the PT has helped significantly, and I won't be returning to Dr. Forati. But I would recommend both her skill and her integrity highly. read more

Dr. Jaime is awesome. I had been in a car accident 2 months earlier, and was in pain while I was waiting for my son, next to their office. I had already been to a chiropractor and an orthopedic dr. Both had done what they could but my shoulders and neck were still in pain (daily!) I actually started crying while I was explaining to Dr Jamie how the myofascial pain felt like a lead blanket of tightness and pain, wrapped around my shoulders and neck! (I'm not a cryer.) After the acupuncture it felt like the blanket had been lifted. I still had some stiffness and soreness which went away with a few visits over a month or so, but that initial treatment lifted the depression of chronic pain along with an immeasurable amount of pain from my locked up and strained muscles. I actually started laughing when I got up from the table because I couldn't believe how much better I felt in a matter of 20min! It was truly amazing for me. :D read more

I started seeing them when the extreme stress of doing a PHD program ran my body and immune system ragged until I contracted mono. For the last year, I have seen Anahita and Jamie once a week, and they have significantly reduced the severity and length of major and minor illnesses, injuries, and stress. My body was in shambles after a very bad repetive stress injury (RSI) due to computer use (grad students be careful!). I had tried so many things: primary doctors, massage, even other accupuncture clinics. Dr. Jamie Hampton (and Anahita!) worked with me for over a year to improve my condition (RSI takes a long time to heal--again be careful!). Without them I would not be where I am today, or even have finished my PhD.Together with a great physical therapist they tailored treatments when nothing else would work. Obsessed! I literally flew from LA to Berkeley to see Dr. Jamie. During law school, she heeled my tendonitis. Now, I'm having issues with my soleus/knee and Dr. Jamie worked her magic. Anahita and Jamie practice traditional acupuncture techniques and also a new myofascial release technique which helps relieve muscle spasms. With ongoing treatment, this has helped to reduce the frequency of my migraines tremendously. It also relieved a painful "mousing shoulder" after just one session! I was referred to Jamie by my physical therapist, who, after giving me dramatic relief of my 9 out of 10 pain, thought I needed a different approach to fully help me. I was skeptical about acupuncture. I am a health professional and at the time I entered this practice, I was not especially hopeful I would get much benefit. But, since I trusted my physical therapist, I decided to give it a go. The first appointment, Jaime gave me plenty of time to explain my problem and asked questions about my health, dealing with me in a holistic way. She gave me tons of information about acupuncture itself, how it works scientifically, and what the plan she had for me. I was so impressed by her education, warm attitude and caring nature that my fears were eased. Turns out she is also wickedly funny and has an infectious positive outlook on life that I love! Jaime's plan to help me worked wonders. She made adjustments as she worked on my muscles. The reasons for my pain were found and worked on until I was pain free. It took many months of treatment, as was expected by Jaime. By the time I was completely helped, I got to know Anahita and Christina, too. They are amazing as well, and I do not use that term lightly. I feel their collective knowledge of acupuncture is enough to help anyone with their pain problems and more. My husband, who broke his back (compression fracture), over 20 years ago had seen multiple doctors over the years and found little relief of his constant pain. He is even more skeptical than I, so it took him a long time to try Golden Leaf out, even with my success. After he went to his first appointment, he was shocked to find his pain down significantly. After several appointments, he couldn't believe his pain was relieved so well. Lastly, but not at all least, their office manager Sienna is fabulous, too! She is always friendly, helpful and caring as well as being extremely efficient and organized.
