Terribly unprofessional staff. I came in today and was disgusted with the rudeness from staff I received. Not to mention how slow the workers were. I have NEVER received such disgusting attitude from any establishment. The woman with the long wig in a hair net and long eyelashes, looks to be in her 50s and works in back as a cook, completely disrespected me and has one of the Worst attitudes. Workers should NEVER put their anger on customers. But I received TERRIBLE service this afternoon. I WILL be going back to catch her name because NO ONE in a customer service industry should be treating customers as such. I do NOT recommend coming to this establishment whatsoever. My experience here has been very hit or miss, but more missing lately. East Orlando is extremely lacking in quality & variety when it comes to food outside of Asian/Latin cuisine. Golden Krust, being a franchise, doesn't make me have the highest expectations to begin with, however this location is not nearly the best. Not by a long shot. While the staff are typically friendly, they can be a bit slow. The food is okay. Not great, sometimes awful. I come when I'm just too tired to cook my cravings at home myself, often wishing I had stuck it out & just cooked anyway. I think they take advantage of the lack of competition on this side of town. Caribbean shops on the west side put this place to absolute shame. CONSISTENCY (in terms of food quality) or the lack thereof is my biggest issue with this place. 3 stars for being (slightly below) average. read more

I have traveled to Jamaica and save the fifth star for the home country. Not all Golden Krust have the same quality or service. However, I must state emphatically that the store on Alafaya Trail has the best oxtails that I have tasted outside of Jamaica or New York. The personnel there do a wonderful job with the soups and other wares. If you like Jamaican food, and have a distinguishing palate, then I recommend this particular store for cleanliness, customer service, and delicious food. read more

This was my first experience here. I went during lunch and got the lunch special. It was less than $6 for curried chicken, rice & beans, and 2 plantains. Nasty food. Besides that it was the worse customer service. It is a good sign to walk out when you walk in and the employees are chatting with each other while I can only imagine is making to go orders. They look at you and do not even tell you to please hold but continue chatting. The just come and stand in front of you without saying what can I get you or anything along those lines. Update!!! My first review of this place was great, I even posted up a collage photo. Well here's my update... I am embarassed, I raved about this place. I told friends and family to go there. Many have texted me that they were just OK, not a good experience. So this past Saturday I had family from out of town, what better to eat then some Jamaican food to mix up the holiday food we've been eating all week. My brother and kids love the patties. We arrived at 8pm (the sign says they close at 10pm, plenty of time). We ordered some patties and the cashier says there's a 15 minutes wait. Ok so I paid for our patties and waited. 15 minutes past and I ask them for status, the cashier gives me a dirty look and goes and checked the kitchen. She comes back and replies "a couple minutes" then I waited 10 minutes, nothing. I asked for my money back after waiting 30 minutes. The same cashier with the dreads/slouchy net, gave me a dirty look and talked to the manager to refund me. They tried to get me to wait, I said No! They suggested I get different menu items they have ready. No thanks I said. Refund and I'm reluctant to come back. A Jamaican restaurant not having Patties ready during operating hours? SERIOUS? The place is called Golden Krust, isn't that a reference to their patties? Why didn't you have them ready? Why the rude service, it's not the customer's fault. read more

I don't care how good the food is...the cashier taking the order with the long hair in a hairnet was less than friendly. When our order came out and we were looking for the right change to pay she started texting on her phone and ignored us for a good minute or two while we were saying excuse me here's the money. I went to run some errands and saw Golden Krust Bakery so I decided to be nosey. I am glad I did because I saw a young lady cleaning up and started asking her about the place. To my surprise it was in fact the owner who was emptying the trash and I like a lead by example kind of person. We began talking and I let her know I like to check out new food places and that I tend to tell the world about my experiences. She immediately perked up with confidence about her establishment. I asked if she would fix me a "sample plate of the different things she had to offer and she was kind enough to do that. She fixed a bed of rice with beans and added some oxtails, jerk chicken, curry goat along with some plantains and a cabbage and veggie medley. I was also given a beef patty some white rice along with some ginger beer which was my favorite brand. She also gave me some rum cake and Gizzarda. YES... That was a LOT OF FOOD! Let me start with the rice and beans. The rice was a tad undercooked and I expected to taste a hint of thyme which appeared to be lacking. I was starting to get worried but I tried the curried goat and it was very tender and very tasty but the seasoning was different than I am accustomed to. I did not taste as much scotch bonnet as I would expect but then again I am used to the "traditional" way of making curry goat and this was seasoned for a younger palate. The jerk chicken has some sweetness to it and I was told they add a few other things to their jerk seasoning. It was different than the traditional jerk seasoning and geared more for the younger palate. The oxtails were a tad undercooked for my liking but since I prefer them to pull cleanly from the bone and these didn't but as far as flavor goes, they were seasoned well. I personally prefer more scotch bonnet in my oxtails but that is a personal preference. I tried the gravy from the curry goat and the oxtails over both types of rice and if the rice and beans was not undercooked, both would have been good over it. I am not a big fan of white rice with Jamaican food but it was cooked right. Those plantains were wonderful but I have to say I did not find the addition of the mixed veggies in the cabbage appealing. Others might like it that way but this is the first time I had it that way and it just didn't work for me personally. That beef patty was flaky, nicely flavored and so good I ate every last bite of it so nothing to nitpick there. The rum cake was quite good and but their Gizzarda was something I had not tried before. I am not a huge coconut fan BUT it won me over. I will be getting another one of those the next time I stop by. Overall I enjoyed their version Jamaican food but for those that grew up on Jamaican cooking, this will not pass the muster. The seasoning is not traditional so I have to say it is better suited for a younger crowd since the younger of people on the go that don't do much cooking. For serious cooks like me that know what home cooked Jamaican food is prepared like and tastes like, it is a disappointing. The addition of veggies in the cabbage, the Worcestershire sauce in the jerk seasoning and the lack of thyme in undercooked red beans and rice is tough to let slide. I think that if they stuck to the more traditional ways of preparing Jamaican cooking, they would be a HUGE success. I suspect that the people that know the difference between authentic Jamaican cooking techniques will not be won over. How do I know this? I have family from Jamaica and have been exposed to home cooked island food and taught how it is made. Several women that work with my wife that are from Jamaica and they had already told her what I am now saying. I spent a good 15 to 20 minutes overall with the owner and can see she is passionate about her business and treats her staff very well. I truly believe that with a few adjustments that this place would be the talk of Waterford Lakes and a huge success with the UCF students and lunch crowd of Research Park. I saw the passion in your face when you talk about your restaurants but there is some room for improvement. Your restaurant is IMMACULATE and your staff is well versed in how to treat the guests but I truly believe that if you took your dishes back to their roots, you would win over the Jamaican food lovers of ALL ages. I will also be coming back to try "The Breakfast of Jamaica" better known as Ackee and Salt Fish... Fair warning... I have some every time I go to south Florida during the holidays. read more

Decided to come here this evening because I didn't feel like driving all the way to another restaurant. I'm kind of mad I settled on this place. I walked in and was really unsure on where to place my order because there were two registers on both ends of the front counter. I thought I placed an order for a large brown stew chicken, and I received a small. Whatever. I was eager to try it though. I opened up the container and found a small amount of meat with majority of it being bones. It wasn't as tender as I would have liked it to be. As far as the taste goes........ They completely missed this one. The gravy tasted like it had BBQ sauce in it. It just did not taste authentic to me. I've had this dish numerous times at different places and just... No. The cabbage also tasted a bit overpowered by okra, and the beans in my peas and rice were a bit dry. My boyfriends curry chicken was good though, and he seemed to have enjoyed his dish. I was just thoroughly disappointed with my food and extremely pissed off that I paid so much for it. 5 star Jamaican food, with 2 star service. Golden Krust has so much potential to attract a host of people outside of the Caribbean diaspora, a la Pollo Tropical. However, their staff is often impolite and brash, and their dining areas are many times untidy. At this location, it was much cleaner than their branches in West Orlando, NYC, or Philly. Hopefully management will take note. The jerk chicken, peas and rice, macaroni pie and patties are truly authentic and "Jamaican". Love the flavor and seasoning. This Golden Krust the employees are so nice and professional. I ordered catering for about 15 people and the process from beginning to end was excellent. The female employee greeted me so kindly and took my order. When I went to pick it up, it was there packaged so nice. The man even brought it to my car as it was heavy. So I was in the mood for a Caribbean fix and I so happen to be on the East side of town. Following the advice of fellow yelper Kenneth J's review I decided to try this restaurant for the food, I'll get to the food later but I'm so happy I decided to try this place.. It is extremely clean, and beautifully decorated, definitely not what I expected or am used to seeing Caribbean establishment like. Immediately, I felt like I was in the Island's as sweet reggae was on the airwaves. I could not disagree more with past yelper's about the service as I was greeted pleasantly and assisted in every way. They were very busy as I went during lunch, but my server was patient and helpful as I was a bit indecisive. I decided on the Jerk chicken, rice & peas, with a side of Macaroni. It was just heavenly and hit the spot. I ordered a few beef patties, a side of jerk wings and a curry chicken dinner to take back to my husband. He said it was the best Jamaican food he's ever had. Went here last weekend and we made it right before the rush. The staff was very friendly. I had ordered the curry chicken with white rice. It was pretty good. The rice was a little undercooked. I also had the liberty of trying the oxtail (thanks Coy) and this suckers were some of the best I have ever had. The oxtail was cooked down perfectly while the sauce was one of the most unami things I had ever eaten. The sauce for the oxtail was almost black and super savory. I highly recom.end this dish. I've been to golden Krust a few times and the service has always been good. Then I come and and there's a older Caribbean woman there and she was very rude and I find out SHES THE OWNER. Her name is MISTY. She started making new rules and going against what Yelp says and yelling at me over the counter. THEN WHEN MY MOM AND I WERE TRYING TO SPEAK TO HER SHE COMPLETELY IGNORED US. Portion sizes at this restaurant have gone done TREMENDOUSLY while the prices have gone up. The workers are not friendly and only give you 4 little pieces of oxtails for $16!!!!
