Thank the heavens for this delicious spot on the east side! I'm typically not a fan of chain restaurants but the quality of food screams down home and far from chain. The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are generous. Worth every penny! My favorites are the ackee and saltfish, escovitch fish and spinach patty! I'm pescatarian and there are plenty of options from fish to shrimp to veggie. Although I don't eat meat, my family has tried oxtails and curry chicken... rave reviews on both. WOW !!!! This place screams " forward Jamaica " !!!! From the music when you walk in to the delicious food. When you walk in they have everything behind glass like buffet style and you order from there. I must say I had to buy 2 soda's because this wonderful and tasty food comes with the heat but if you don't want heat you they have other things without the fire. I love the heat so I had the Curry Chicken with the rice and beans with plantains and everything was delicious . I will be back for sure... The only thing this place needs is more foot traffic. Come for the patties and the patties won't disappoint. The rest of the options have much to be desired, but the patties are solid and what they're built on. Most have a golden crust (imagine that) which is a container for various fillings. 5 Stars for the patties. They also have a bunch of sides (what I tried was 2-3 stars) and at times, their LTOs (Limited Time Offerings) can be good. We went when they had the vegan meat patties and they were out of them. I wish they had all the time. They have some veggie patties but I tried a bite and wasn't a fan. Their meat Patties are good too though. My visits here may be few and far between, especially with Island Thyme within walking distance to my home, but it's a solid place to stop for a snack if you're visiting Home Depot, Sleep Number, Michaels, or something else in the most inconvenient plaza in Waterford. I think they were on Undercover Boss one time, and they also have their products in the frozen food section of grocery stores, In fact, I just scored their Beyond Meat patties at Publix so now I may never have to endure the logistical nightmare of going here. read more

Looks like my 400th review goes to a chain I've frequented for most of my life in various locations. Golden Krust isn't the best Jamaican food ever but it's authentic, delicious, reasonably priced, comes in large portions and is usually fresh (heck at our most recent visit we got straight out of the oven patties & they were top notch. Great selection of non alcoholic beverages. They've converted to take out only during co-vid with plexi glass, distance markers and masks and the tables have been replaced by a Caribbean favorites mini mart with lots of spices, sauces and packaged goods. I drive almost 40 minutes from Lake Mary to go here. It's the best Golden Krust in Orlando and one of the best Caribbean places in the area. Most Golden Krusts are franchised (not sure if this one is) and this one definitely stands apart. I usually go on Sunday afternoon and it's always busy but the food is always fresh and they usually have what I want in stock. The variety of sides, drinks, and desserts are a great way to try something authentic and new. My wife is Jamaican and she agrees that this Golden Krust puts out the best in terms of quality and flavor. My go-to order is the jerk chicken platter with rice and peas, stewed cabbage and plantains. I love that they offer both white and dark meat. You can also chose the gravy from any of the other entrees to dress up your rice. (I recommend the oxtail). There's at least 6 different kinds of patty available including beyond meat and spinach which I haven't see anywhere else. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. The staff is fun and remember the regulars. One tip- call ahead if there is something you really want. While they do tend to keep most things on hand, if you go when it's busy or later in the day they can run out. You can also call ahead to place an order for extra assurance that you're getting what you want. read more

Both of us ate until we were full and still enough for a big lunch leftover. The rice and peas were covered with ox tail gravy. Pork was cooked well, not overdone, jerk sauce was flavorful without overdone it. Cabbage was so much more than expected. Plantains were fried right, soft inside with a slight crust. The stewed red snapper taste several days old. The oxtails nothing but fat and grizzle. The rice and peas has this weird sweetness and taste several days old as well! The only thing that we ate were the patties. If you can't get good Jamaican food in dam Florida idk what to say other than, we were highly disappointed and upset to have spent so much to still be hungry and just toss the food in the trash. Another restaurant that is better than 3 stars but doesn't make it to 4 stars. I have had a few things at Golden Krust. Right off, let's say that the patties are really good, and they have a nice variety, like beef, spicy beef, chicken, vegetables, spinach, etc. If you come here for some patties, you will have made a great choice. Make sure to add some Coco bread along with your patties. The hot food situation, on the other hand, is a little iffy. Last thing I ordered was some curry chicken, which was pretty good, had a little bit of spice, but did not come through for me. The rice and peas were well cooked, and they had a nice flavor to them, but I would say the rice and peas was not balanced. I am being very critical, by the way. So, it was OK. I also had the pea soup, which again, had a lot of flavor, but some of the flavors were not balanced, and in this case, the coconut milk was overpowering. Good flavors, but not balanced. On the warm plates, I saw they had whole snapper and king fish escabeche, and it looked good. I will surely be back for that, and also for the jerk chicken, which I hope compares to the one I make. This place also has a good seating space, so you can eat in with no problem. So, if you stop by Golden Krust (and you should), you will not throw away your hard earned cash. This Golden Krust location has never disappointed and has a lifelong customer in me. My go-to when I'm on the run and need something affordable, tasty and quick is their spicy beef patty. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos (yes, it's that good) but I'll try and update with a photo on my next visit. Their portions are big, the food is flavorful and it's one of the most affordable options in the area. I should also mention that in the many visits I've made here, the staff has always been friendly and welcoming. I grew up visiting my local Jamaican bakery down in Miami and this location gives me that same nostalgia and familial vibes that I'm so used to. TL;DR - Give this place a try! Considering it's part of a chain, Golden Krust easily surpassed my expectations. The problem I have with many restaurants is lack of seasoning. That is not an issue here. I had the Thursday special, jerk pork, and it was fabulous! The small meal was big enough that I ate the leftovers for breakfast. It had just enough spice that I could taste the flavors in the meat. Because the jerk sauce wasn't overpowering, it went great on the rice and beans. On the side I had sweet plantains and cabbage. Both were great. I also had a spicy beef patty which in my opinion wasn't spicy, but it still tasted great. I feel bad for anyone who had a negative experience here. I suggest giving them another try. The staff were friendly and patient while I tried to figure what the heck I wanted. So many good options. I went outside my comfort zone and opted for the ox tails $11 and my boyfriend had the jerk chicken. Let's start with the pros-larger than life portions even on the small. I had more than enough for lunch the next day. Please of gravy from the oxtails and the veggie/cabbage combo...cash money! Excellent! Oxtails had great flavor as well as the jerk pork. We also split a spicy beef patty with coco bread which is free if you check in on here!!!! It was delicious! Cons-Rice was not done :(. It tasted way better the next day when I reheated it. Great place! Whenever we visit this side of town, my hubby wants to visit here! Food is just amazing and authentic. We always receive nice service and people there are generally nice. You will receive great food and service but this is not a place for families to sit and dine in. The restaurant is fairly small with only a few small tables . I do recommend ordering ahead of time for take out but they already have majority of the food well prepared. Their patties are short lived, meaning, once they're ready, they're gone! Everyone loves them and they can barely keep them available. My favorite dish is the oxtail with peas and rice, cabbage and sweet plantains. I usually swish it down with coconut water. My hubby loves whatever fish they prepare, usually red snapper and drinks Malta with it. I recommend this place for hungry people who don't want to cook and are in a hurry to get home! I go to Golden Krust at 318 N Alafaya at least 3 times for the week. Yes, I love the food served their,, but I really enjoy the people that work there as well. The delicious Caribbean food prepared there by Chef Kevin is outstanding, all the customers know him has "The Master Chef", that place would be nothing without him! Sunday was my wife's and my first stop into Golden Krust. I know it says "Caribbean" but I always thought it was a Puerto Rican bakery. That is, until I started noticing the reviews on Yelp. So, with updated information in hand, we stopped in for breakfast, just after their 10 AM opening time. I was so happy to learn it is Jamaican, with specials like Goat, Curry, Jerk Chicken, etc. However, since we were here for breakfast, we decided on the Salt Cod. My wife had hers with Acki; and, I ordered mine with Callilou. Each came with stewed bananas, yam, and two dumplings! It was a mountain of food... and, we each got just the small! I also tried a slice of the Hard Dough bread; and, left with a whole loaf! That and the Rock Cake, which was excellent with coffee the next morning. WOW! I am so happy to have seen the updated reviews; and, am happy to call Golden Krust a soon-to-be "regular" stop for me and my wife. We loved it! read more
