What can be said about a hole in the wall Jamaican restaurant, other than yum. This place is very low frills mom-and-pop with decor that literally screams Jamaica at you everywhere you look. The food is fresh and delicious, although we found the lunch special portions to be a little small. One of us had the curry, which had just the right mix of flavors and the other had the jerk chicken, which was pretty good as well. We also tried a spinach and cheese pie and it was delicious!! After conquering that delicious meal, my decision became a difficult one. I mean, the chicken was positioned so beautifully in my container and was well seasoned and spicy. The rice was fresh and fluffy but not too soft. The cabbage was plain and not seasoned but it worked fine. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and felt my craving was met with satisfaction. Our waiters name was Elijah and he was soooo sweet!! He was such a gentleman and made a few accommodations on our behalf. My husband and I both ordered the vegetables, rice and plantains. Picture this. Hubby and I are out on one of our weekend motorcycle rides to Bikeroberfest in Daytona Beach, FL. We ride over to one of our favorite restaurants in Sanford, FL only to find it's closed for maintenance. We ask a local where can we get something good to eat? This was one of those fortuitous coincidences that worked out really well. I believe the person taking our order behind the counter said they are undergoing some changes and updates. You order from the guy behind the counter and your food comes out in Styrofoam containers. We arrived when they opened and the guy behind the counter asked us to come to the counter to order from him. Currently they do not have menu's so you order off the whiteboard hanging on the sidewall behind the plexiglass beside the guy behind the counter. We were the only ones dining in and there were a few people that stopped in and ordered food to go while we ate. The food was good and the servings were plentiful for the prices. The restaurant is off a sideroad and just up the way from 1st street. There's a growing selection of nice restaurants in this part of Sanford. Ordered 1 large curry goat with a boiled dumpling, cabbage and rice with peas. 1 medium oxtail with cabbage and fried plantains. 2 bottled drinks and 2 Patties. This came out to $50 loL, price wouldn't have mattered if I actually got a solid serving of meat. I Maybe had 4oz of goat for a huge platter of rice, that was a let down. Finally giving up on them!! I've eaten at this restaurant many times since we moved to Sanford in 2015, very inconsistent.. Sometimes I come here and the food is great, other times I come here and its horrible.. Of course you may ask why go back if its bad?? Because when they're on their "A-GAME" Negril Spice is a good restaurant. Taking the good with the bad I guess, But lately, it's been more bad than good. I love jerk pork!! It's in rare air on my favorite foods list. Lately i've wasted about 40 bucks on bad jerk pork from them, including tonight, the absolute tipping point! Burned meat, CLEARLY OLD!! No longer had a proper flavor profile, barely any meat for a "large" and most of what was in my container was either fat or iffy bits of pork.. Super ticked off, and WILL NOT! Spend another dime there.. If you have any care for your customers, you should pull the item that YOU KNOW is old, or not in A-1 condition. I wouldnt give this meat to a stray dog! If the problem is logistics, and you cant meet the standards required to serve something on your menu, PULL IT OFF THE MENU and roll with your greatest hits.. To be fair, it's not all bad there, oxtails are usually good, but I did run into a couple of brick like, dehydrated beef patties a few weeks ago, And not so prime jerk chicken as well, was not fresh at all.
