Listen I'm from Miami by way of Jamaican and Bahamian roots. I like to say that this is another subpar review of a Jamaican establishment in Atlanta. My food was tasty I ordered the curry goat with a jerk patty on the side of course. The day I went here must have been an off day. I maybe try again after I feel better but my stomach was destroyed. We do Golden Krust pretty often, mostly via pickup orders and specifically this location. Our family (including extended) usually do large orders. Oxtail, Brown Stew, Curried Goat, Curried Chicken, rice & peas, veggies... lots and lots of patties! Bun & cheese... we are no strangers to Jamaican food as my mom is from Jamaica. The food is always good. The place is always packed (despite what the reviews might have you believe) and I've never had bad service. I was actually a bit surprised. I've also never seen the restaurant dirty despite the sheer volume they are handling on the daily. I'm sure they have off days, like any other place and maybe others really are having less than stellar experiences but that has not been my experience at all. Our large family keeps coming back and never the same person doing pickup orders so it's not just that we are a recognizable face. True the customer service isn't anything great however the food is DELICIOUS! I pick golden Krust over a ton of other Caribbean restaurants especially the one in conyers. We usually go to the one by Stonecrest Mall. Since we are in Conyers now this one was a little closer. My daughter decided to go to this one. I had brown stew chicken, the girls either had oxtail or curry chicken. No one was happy with their food. My food had hard rice the gravy was kind of solidified and the chicken was not there. We got two patties each- 3 spicy beef (6.30), 2 mild beef (4.20), and 1 chicken patty (2.15). We also ordered 2 kola champagnes (3.38) and 1 ginger beer (1.69). Total damage with tax was 18.96. The patties: A tad bit too crusty. The ratio of beef to crust was off, but the flavor was good on both the mild and spicy. Pops had the chicken and he liked it but again, thought it was too much crust. My suggestion is if you are not big on heat, opt for the mild! The drinks were bottled...My childhood fave has always been the kola champagne. They also serve traditional Jamaican food, but being that I am of Jamaican descent, I'm extremely choosy of the Carribbean food I eat that is not from mom or pops. This location just opened 5 weeks ago. I had never heard of this place before but apparently it's a chain and there are at least 4 or 5 more in the Atlanta area, 2 not too far from me. My mom and I were out and decided to change it up from our usually bugers and fries and both of us LOVE caribbean food! So we were surprised to find spot this place a few doors down from where we were. The inside was very nice and colorful. Definitely makes you feel like you're in some tropical getaway! She ordered the small jerk chicken meal which comes with choice or white rice or peas an rice, veggies, and plantains for $8.99. I ordered the small oxtails meal which also includes the same. I also ordered a beef patty (cause I haven't had one in so long), which all came out to about $25 and some change. Not gonna lie, I thought this was a little pricey. BUT the generous portions that give you and when you start eating, you forget, lol. Mom loved her chicken and I couldn't get enough of my oxtails. Although I wish they had given me a few more. I thought I'd yelped this restaurant that I use to love. Well, I basically go in on Saturday now just for the soup. It's either, I don't get any meat or I don't get any dumplings, just potatoes. The customer service sucks. I'm not sleeping with your boyfriend or husband, why are you so salty with me. On my last 3 trips the kitchen was filthy, I just walked out. My wife and I have been in the Conyers Golden Krust twice and if I had any complaint about the place....it's more food for the money than I can put in my stomach! My wife enjoys the variety of pies and veggies for her meals. Today...for a first time venture...jerk chicken; rice & peas with mixed vegs and plantains. Oxtail gravy on the rice and the lovely lass behind the glass gave me a choice on the jerk sauces and then piled it on with a smile. Seeing jerk chicken being plated broke the spell for me as I'd always wanted to give it try at any of the places around the state...but it just didn't have the appeal until my visit at to the Golden Crust today, A very nice place; clean enough to suit my bride and dished out to your specs. The bill for the two of us....my "full meal" the small one at that; my wife's Chicken Pie and vegs was about $13.00. As I think about it, I was so loaded up on good food that I meant to put a few bucks in the tip jar...but staggered out to the car instead. I'll have to make a return visit soon....breakfast looks great on the menu...and make amends on the gratuity today. The ladies behind the counter were Island sweet in nature, speech and good words. As a musician, I enjoyed the solid mix of Caribbean and Gospel music being played and truly enjoyed watching and listening to the ladies singing the hymns in harmony while they worked...just completed the experience for us. I'm sure there are long time Conyerites that are missing the opportunity to try the food due to some stubborn lack of melding the demographics. As the sole Caucasians on our last two visits...I sincerely hope it's simply timing on our part and not some poor choices of giving this good food, hard working, sweet natured staff and clientele the benefit of any doubt.
