Never again, I asked did they have wifi prior to ordering. Order got my computer just to be told no I Cant use wifi. Food not seasoned and NO hot sauce in building!!! Then she (rude cashier) hands me a FROZEN GHOST PEPPER. I went next door to the butcher to buy some hot sauce to eat this non refundable meal. read more

Island Jerk - Bland food. And hot sauce purchased somewhere else - Caribbean Near Me - Conyers, Georgia

I went in over the holidays (late review, I know) looking for a homemade Christmas Rum Cake for my mom who always gets homesick around the holidays. She's from Jamaica and this time of year hits her a bit harder than others. Not only was I able to purchase a whole, homemade rum cake I grabbed a few patties while I was there. The case was absolutely perfect! My mom was over the moon!! The patties were also like I remember. I don't want to knock other establishments but many struggle with having enough filling, nice spice, good flake. These are delicious. I don't live in the area but if I did I would try to get out there more than just my one experience. And if I had been going directly home I would've tried more of the food. Next time I'm in the area I certainly will. But for what I needed, having tried other restaurants in search of this oh-so-special gift for my mom, which was her favorite Christmas present of all, they hit it out of the park! Next time I'm in town I'll be sure to stop in and try some of their main dishes for sure! read more

The customer service was very poor. Karry the cashier found it appropriate to tip herself on my card. The food was very underwhelming. Rice and peas were dry and under flavored. Cabbage taste like bell peppers. The brown stew was decent. Most certainly will never spend money with this establishment again. read more

A lot of food for a good price. The chicken was scattered between good and dry. But overall I will be returning again. The plantains omg they were good. read more

I'm going to make this review quick. This was my first time visiting this place as I usually go to Golden Krust because I didn't know of any other West Indian places around here. I decided to give this place a try but I think I made a mistake. It was overpriced, the food wasn't good and the server was very cheap! He gave me a little bit of food and when I asked for a little more rice, he said there was enough which I could see it wasn't . Very disappointing. I had high hopes because the food did look tasty. I doubt I'll give them another try though because I don't want to waste my money again. ***** In response to the owners reply, this review is for the RIGHT location. You had a male worker that day & he did not provide good service!! Thanks. ****** read more

I love the idea of the $3.99 special. What's pictured is what you would get. It's a great pick me up. I also ordered a chicken patty that was pretty good. They are not offering in door dining so much that the lady yelled at me about it when I only opened my bag to look at my patty while waiting for my food. I understand safety first, but it was a little aggressive. read more

Food was ok, but not great. I love Island food so was pretty excited to find the restaurant. They were pretty unorganized also. I may give them another shot to see if this changes. read more

The Food and service is actually 6 stars but I can only choose 5. That's how good the food is. You won't be disappointed. And I'm from New York where we Jamaicans are critical when it comes to tasting just right. Seeeeen. read more

Not impressed unfortunately. For almost $30 I would expect the oxtails to be much better than they were. No flavor at all and the cabbage wasn't great either. Im giving 2 stars because of the portion size which was decent . read more

Hands down, THE BEST Brown Stew Chicken. EVER. It's savory, super flavorful, and absolutely delicious! Perfectly seasoned, bone-in (dark meat) chicken stewed in the most magnificent brown sauce you can imagine, with all of the right Caribbean spices and hints of fresh herbs and vegetables such as thyme, scallions, potatoes, and carrots. It all shows up on your plate! Did I mention it's extremely flavorful? My taste buds go bonkers whenever it hits my tongue. It leaves my stomach so full and satisfied, yet my mouth craving for more, and no, this is NOT an exaggeration. In fact, it's so gosh darn good that it's the ONLY thing that I've ordered from them since discovering Island Jerk about 2 years ago. Of course, I would love to try some of their other seemingly delicious dishes, but it is impossible for me to go there and NOT order their Brown Stew Chicken! I come here WEEKLY for their Tuesday Lunch Special (which happens to be Brown Stew Chicken, each day has a different special) for $5.99. It comes with rice and peas, steamed cabbage/veggies, 2 slices of fried plantain, and your choice of a canned soda or a bottled water. It really doesn't get any better than that! Service is fast and friendly. You pay when you place your order, but they always show you your food before bagging to ensure your order is correct and that you're satisfied. Customers are always in and out. The restaurant stays clean with a homey atmosphere, topped off with Caribbean vibes from the music videos they play daily on their television. I highly recommend Island Jerk to everyone! read more

I had the curry shrimp was great and they don't slack on the portion. I do wish it was a little spicy but nonetheless the food was really good. I also had a veggie patty that was seasoned so good . I should've gotten 2. read more

I visit a few time a year to get my curry fix. They have fresh food daily and reasonable prices for my favorite Jamaican dishes. The service is okay...most of the employees are friendly. Island Jerk - Mini curry chicken special $4.27(with tax) for lunch on the fly - Caribbean Near Me - Conyers, Georgia

The food was good but the staff was rude every time I came in here which created an overall uncomfortable experience ...

I have eaten here at least 3 times. The first time was pretty good I had the small oxtail plate. The second time was about a month ago, I again ordered the oxtails, the entire meal was horrible. I decided to give them another try today and ordered the jerk chicken...it was worse than horrible!! The food wasn't seasoned it was just hot. The plantain taste like it was old and tough as shoe leather. I will never go back. read more

I passed on the jerk because it was oven made no grill involved and that's fine I guess but not preferred by anyone whose has the genuine article - smelled great though and the young woman working was nice, I did have a beef patty and that's why I'm writing, that thing was great! Did not taste processed, tasted home made and the filling was perfect texture and really flavorful, I'm stoping again tomo I fact read more

I'm not from the area. And I have been trying Jamaican food recently. I ordered the ox tails and my card declined, the owner gave them to me for free and even checked to make sure it was what I wanted. This is going to be my new go to Jamaican spot. Island Jerk - Ox Tails - Caribbean Near Me - Conyers, Georgia

Yesterday, I went to this restaurant because I'm new in the area and was craving some good Jamaican food. I got an order of Oxtails with rice, peas, and vegetables. The other plate was jerk chicken with white rice and vegetables. First, I called the restaurant to make sure they were open and the woman who picked up had a terrible attitude and rushing me off the phone. Next, I did appreciate that they gave complimentary plantains and they were okay however the food was not good. I order extra cabbage and didn't get them and when I told the woman working behind the counter, she refuse to give me extra because I didn't have cash. Next, the jerk chicken was extremely spicy with no flavor and I can handle spice. The oxtails were too salty and fatty but the white rice and rice peas were decent. Overall our meals were not satisfying or fulfilling. I will never return to this place! read more

I like the food there, however my daughter hates it, she swears they cannot cook. I find the food quite tasty and I do enjoy eating there from time to time. However the last time I went I got some brown stew chicken that was not fresh and it made me sick, I will not hold it against them as the other 90% of times I have eaten there, the food was good. But I think I will take a long break from them, I was very disappointed the last time in the quality of the food. I know restaurants can and do have off day's, and I really should have said something to managment. read more

Omg. This stuff was not good. The best part of my meal was the cabbage. The jerk chicken was not flavorful. The sauce given was sweet and was supposed to be jerk sauce but added no flavor. The beef patty was bland. I was extremely disappointed with this meal as a whole. I spent $15 for really bad Jamaican food. I would never return to this place. I kept eating this meal thinking it would get better but never did. I absolutely do not recommend this place even if you are starving. read more

I used to come here often. I noticed that their portion sizes changed as time went on so I found another spot. I decided I would give it another chance for my SO. Oxtails are an expensive dish - in general - however - I caution to NOT come here for them. $15.00 for 5 SMALL bones is a large $12.00 for 4 SMALL bones is a small. If that is their guidelines - I can accept that EXCEPT they had NO cabbage. They let us know they were low on cabbage and plantains so we would not get a full meal. Rather than substitute for more meat - (which would have been acceptable if I'm still paying FULL PRICE for a meal) - they added extra rice. Don't nobody want no more rice!!!! I went back to ask about it and she said that oxtails are expensive. Once again - I'm fine with that - however - When I ask her about this half a meal we got - she was basically like "oh well - boo!" At that point I realized I have other things going on in my life I need to tend to so I just told her the meal was thin and left. We paid full price for half a meal and 5 small bones even a dog would pass up. I'm through with these folk for good. I see the owner responded. So then take off a percentage for what's lacking in the meal. That would have sufficed. read more

As a native NY'er, I have had my share of good Caribbean food but Island Jerk took the cake! I had a stewed snapper that was better than ANY I've ever had in NY! The rice and peas and cabbage were all the right texture and flavor but the fish?!? Mercy! When I took a friend back, we were so happy to see they had patties with coco bread, traditional drinks and desserts, breads and candy (tamarind balls, y'all!). I will definitely return to Island Jerk each time I visit Conyers! read more

I give this restaurant FIVE STAR because the food to me is always on point I'm Jamaican so I know what the food should taste like the only thing they need to step upon the customer service meaning some kind of greeting, if there is ever a problem with my good they are all to happy to change it or replace it and you don't have to bring it back to them like some Jamaican restaurant would let you do that owner of the extablishment is very nice and is all to accommodating to her customers I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who is look for great Jamaican food go here enjoy you sure will read more

Island Jerk - My friends - Caribbean Near Me - Conyers, Georgia

Thursday's special -- stew peas -- was simply amazing. The dish was expertly spiced and served with an abundance of rice, crisp cabbage, and plantains. Adding a side of spicy jerk sauce made the meal divine! Daily specials are $5.99 and served with a beverage. The staff is friendly and efficient. All of the other patrons who were present during my visit appeared to be regulars, and they were greeted by name. In my opinion, that's always a good sign of quality. read more

The food here is phenomenal if you order carefully. Avoid anything described as "boiled" or "dumplings," unless you like your food extremely bland. The beef patties, coco bread, jerk chicken, and greens with saltfish are all to die for! Very flavorful and just the right amount of spice. Don't be discouraged by the nondescript strip mall facade. This place is worth a trip! read more

Oh. My. God. Where do I start? Everything was so good! Jerk chicken platter, with rice & peas and amazing crunchy cabbage, absolutely perfect. Sweet baby Jesus, best rice & peas I've ever had. EVER. The chicken was nice and juicy, well seasoned and well cooked. Bone-in, so watch out for that. I'm an uncultured American, though. Never had "real" jerk sauce, and didn't know that it's basically hotter than Satan's butthole. BE CAREFUL with that little box of sauce they pack into the to-go plate! I thought it was the same amazing manna-from-heaven brown gravy that was already smothering my rice, so I poured it on without a thought. I was so, so wrong. First bite of rice with new sauce tasted fine, but not the same as the original rice gravy. Second bite was also good, but still not as good as the gravy. Whatever, I'm hungry and on lunch break from work, so I take a third bite...third...bite... WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I CANT FEEL MY FACE. I NO LONGER HAVE TASTE BUDS. I'M DYING OF HOTNESS AND I DON'T KNOW WHY AND I'M PRETTY SURE THEY WILL FIND THE CHARRED REMAINS OF MY CORPSE RIGHT HERE WHERE I SIT. I COULD BREATHE FIRE LIKE A BABY DRAGON AND INCINERATE THE WHOLE BLOCK BUT I'M LITERALLY GOING TO BURN UP FIRST. I realize that OF COURSE I've dumped this dragon-breath sauce onto my rice, which is my usual go-to for heat control when I've over-spiced myself...So I gulp some water, which doesn't help, and in fact made the whole burning-from-the-inside-out situation WORSE. Blessedly, I'd bought some coco bread and plantains too. That not only toned down the heat in my mouth & belly, it also tasted really good! Oh hey, I can taste again! Right on! The coco bread was super yummy. The plantains were very tasty but somehow oddly dry in the middle, though to be fair, I had to wait a bit before eating due to traffic and getting back to my desk. Will try them again. Now post-self-immolation, I will DEFINITELY be returning to Island Jerk ASAP, and bringing my spicy-food-loving family! AH-MAZ-ING! You need this place in your life, on regular rotation! read more

Shut Yo Mouth Gud!!! My husband came home with a plate of curry goat, red beans and rice, and crunchy cabbage. He gave me a taste and I was like "Wait! Where did you get that!!!?" He said Island Jerk! Now I had seen this place in the shopping plaza but never stopped because of the location. I went the next day with our son and bought yet again, another curry goat plate (it was on point!). My son ordered Jamaican beef patties. I tasted them and they were hot and stuffed with beef! I also order the coco bread because I read from a reviewer how delicious it was. OMG! It was Sooo soft, Sooo sweet, Sooo delicious! I could taste the curry and seasoning on my lips all day!! Please do not "sleep" on this place! The food is definitely the best when it comes to Authentic Jamaican food! This is not a chain restaurant! The chicken patties are delicious for a quick snack and they are always warm. The wait is a bit long sometimes but it's worth it. I love the brown stew chicken and the curry goat. The cabbage is always yummy and fresh. Sometimes, they skimp on the meat portions so be sure to check your food and make sure is not just a lot of chunks of gravy and bones. read more

The safest thing to eat from here would be the Jamaican Pate being that they take it right out the box and toss them in the oven (although they make it seem as though they make it themselves) oan if you go when they just open you get the freshly reheated ones from yesterday. Anything that's jerk comes out the fridge and goes straight into the microwave and then on to your plate. The rice is usually cook from 2 days ago so there goes another food served as fresh but yet microwaved. They serve EVERYTHING fresh out the MICROWAVE. (Speaking the truth from behind the scenes). If you don't believe me when you order your food listen for the beep of the microwave. The only thing that is actually made to order is the curry shrimp. The king and snapper fish is just reheated out of the fridge in to its sauce. The foot traffic that you see going in and out of here can't attest to the amount of food they have leave over to serve you the next few days as fresh. The second safety thing to buy would be the Brown stew chicken that usually sells so its usually cooked daily with some lefts overs and you just can't tell sometimes because they will mix it together based on when it was cooked!! If Yvonne the lady who actually works hard and run the place had some help from the owner Charm! I'm sure things would be alot different and they would be able to actually serve their customers a nice FRESH HOT plate of food!! read more

I'm not the type to usually write reviews, but I always rely on reviews to make a decision. I've decided that may opinions and view may contribute to someone elses decision making. I visited late Monday afternoon. It was quaint, smelled good, and was tidy. The young lady at the front counter was nice. I ordered ox tails, it was served with rice and a side of cabbage. The ox tails were a good size for the money, the rice was sticky, but the cabbage was delicious. Overall, it was OK. The gravy is usually my favorite part of the oxtails, but it was so fatty. Chunks of fat from the meat were floating in the gravy, I couldn't even eat it! So, if you go dont order the oxtails. read more
