This place never picks the phone. The lady at night i asked for a large rice and peas multiple times and she said the large and small fit in the same container but I didn't even ask that ? I Asked for a large and was given a small. I know a large costs around $14 bucks. There no way im gonna travel all the way back for the correct order. This job isn't a difficult. read more

Great first experience. I tried the small Curry goat with rice and peas with a cold bottle of ting. Service was pleasant efficient and expedient. They have breakfast options, festival meals and a whole bunch of pastries and other Jamaican delicacies. This looks to be a pretty busy location so I would say get there around 11:00 for the lunch before the rush hits. I'll update after I've been here a few more times but so far this place looks to be a fantastic new business to the local area. read more

I came in here at 7:00, they close at 10. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas, plantains, no veggies. The chicken and plantains was dried up, no flavor whatsoever. You could barely eat any of it. My daughter had the snapper and same sides as me. The snapper was the same. The rice had good flavor but cold and that was from a new pot coming out the back. I'm assuming they made everything in the morning and it just sat there drying up and going bad. I'd somewhat understand if it was closing time. The place was packed with people coming out of work and heading home. Service was slow but the place did look clean. For almost 40 dollars I would expect way better quality food. Moral of the story get here early in the day or you'll get dried up leftovers not worth eating. read more

We ordered the oxtail, after buying some patties and coco bread. It just came out fresh and we ordered a large. We normally wouldn't order food from GK, usually ordering at other little joints. They gave us a good sized portion and it was actually amazing. You can tell that they actually made the food with love and care. The oxtail was really good and meaty, the rice and pea were really good as well. We really enjoyed it. The only thing lacking was the cabbage, which was more on the crunchy side. I'm assuming they didn't steam it down enough. It was good, though. We would definitely return. Great customer service too! read more

It was a long wait. But worth it! Food is fresh. And that day. When it's gone, you have a little bit fresh batch. Again it's worth it! He had the rice, amount of vegetables. They were happy to change out more vegetables for less rice. And the curry chicken. Barbecued wings looked amazing and so did the chili chicken. That's what I want to try next. Very typical Caribbean...no cups for the drinks . Our server was a dedicated restaurant man. And true to the Caribbean people, he was annoyed to have to go get more food from the kitchen. Good overall was pretty good. Tasted nice and fresh. This is something I missed since moving here from the city. Pleasant servers/staff. Place was nice,bright, and clean. I look forward to trying other food options especially the patties as it appears they make it fresh. My only eye opener was the price. I did not know what to expect. Oh, my word, my tastebuds are very happy right now. We ordered a few dishesa: jerk chicken, jerk pork, and chicken wings. There is not a bad bite in any of the dishes. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the flavors were amazing. I need to know what they season the vegetables with because they were excellent. I came in yesterday a little after noon and there were four customers waiting for service. I understand long waits can aggravated customers especially during the holiday season. But I can't put that blame on the holiday season; this is starting to become a recurrent theme at this location where there are long lines that translates into long waits creating frustration. Maybe it's me that the past couple of times I've visited, I've caught them in an unflattering moment but yesterday took the cake. The associate was handling orders and the register. Of course, one customer got taken out of sequence that generated some discord with another. The associate tried to remedy the situation by taking multiple orders but the frustration had already overtaken him and the customers. Some paced back and forth and sighed, I remained patient and sympathetic giving the fact of the situation at hand, he was alone and had the responsibility of handling two jobs. Well, the associate decided to air out his frustration and took it out on me. I would be the first to say, customers aren't always in the right. But I don't see where I contributed nor antagonize the situation and I'm sure, if investigated from other patrons as witnesses, I don't think they would controvert my statement. The associate was way out of line. But I humble myself to say if I did anything that might have provoked this individual, I express my sincere apologies, but I don't see where an obviously overworked employee decided to vent his frustration out on customers as being justified. so glad they opened a location here in Newburgh since the Poughkeepsie is bit out of reach for me. really great experience, staff was very friendly and was patient with me since it took me a bit since all the food looked so good. settled on the stewed chicken with white rice and a jerk chicken patty, wanted a spicy beef patty but was out of them by the time I was there, heard it a very popular item and gets sold out often. so, the staff not only was amazing, but they also even put the gravy from the stewed chicken on my white rice without even asking and out a generous amount, am so blown away, usually have to ask and they knew what i wanted, really i can't stress how great the service was here. Chicken was great, fall off the bone tender and so flavorful from the sauce, rice was fluffy and lightly salted, my favorite kind of rice. now the stewed sauce, was truly something, just the right kind of flavorful and thick.
