Had to update the review. Definitely one of the best places in Newburgh if not the top of the heap…read more Never had bad meal here yet. He has a standard menu that is always set to about 5 or 6 options on the Hot tray. There is a small menu that's off items that you have to ask him such as boiled plantains and other down-home Jamaican goods. His rum cake is definitely some of the best I've had. Give it a shot if you have a chance. He has started to introduce jumble sauce which you can add to your food, you just have to ask if the homemade stuff is available. It's usually right behind the counter on the shelves in Plainview. If you like hot Jamaican patties on the spicy side you have to get here before 4 o'clock if not they're all gone. The drinks aren't too bad either he offers sea moss, Irish moss and a bunch of fruit juices. Also some of the best fried chicken in Newburgh. ::PLEASE BE AWARE HE OPERATES ON ISLAND TIME; HE LIKES TO LINGER OVER THE RICE WHILE POURING THE GRAVY AND MAKES SURE THE PLANTAINS ARE ARRANGED JUST RIGHT. ITS WORTH THE WAIT::

The most recent addition to the array of Jamaican restaurants in Newburgh, Real Spice; A Taste of…read morethe Island delivers on all fronts. I've visited 4 times and tried a few different dishes and have been happy with the results everytime. I'm a fan of the jamaican beef patties and this place has a variety of patty that i've never seen before and is way tastier and less greasier than other places in town. The chicken patty and veggie patties are definitely some of the best i've had, not overly seasoned and they are served baked and flaky. A classic dish is Jerk chicken with rice and peas with cabbage. The chicken had a very nice kick to it with a hint of cinnamon. The spice wasn't overbearing and the chicken was grilled perfectly. I've had the Ox tail stew and can say it was fall off the bone tender and the pieces were moderate in size. Not the biggest ox-tails in newburgh but it was well seasoned and was noteworthy. The Curried Goat was certainly one of the best dishes on the daily menu. Its in a yellow gravy with tender cubes of potato. The meat is tender and not gamey at all. They offer a variety of cakes; cheese, rum, red velvet and carrot cake to make a few. Fresh carrot juice and mango juice was spotted behind the counter. If you like sour dough bread, they have it for sale here along with other Jamaican specialities. Real Spice is open for breakfast and offers the classical morning specialties. the steam and fried snapper is delicious. you can call ahead of time to have it prepared as well.

The coconut shrimp tasted like it used to be good before it sat out all evening, drying out and getting tough. I'm used to oxtail that is home cooked OR from Golden Krust in NYC. I shan't be back. The service was... typical jamaican friendliness - which is to say NOT friendly. the place was very clean.

Each table has ketchup, salt, and pepper. Found parking space no problem in the lot. When we went it was a little past 9 pm. No other customers were there when we went. We were starving. Always a fan of simple menus, in this case, just pick the size of plate: small $6, medium $8, large $12. I got the small which looked like a decent portion already, and then got rice, beans (black or brown), and a meat (stewed chicken, stewed beef, shredded pork, or stewed pork). I liked that the lady who helped us, I assume is the daughter, was helpful when I couldn't decide what meat I wanted. On reviews I've heard good things about the shredded pork, she told me that since it's end of the night, it's a little dry. Appreciate the honest girl! Got the chicken stew and was happy with it. The thighs were whole and tasty, not dry at all. I tried husband's beef stew which was also very good, probably liked it better. We were pretty content and full after the small size takeout platter. And for just $6! Definitely coming back here again next time I'm done shopping at Woodbury!
