Dumplings
Riley R.

I placed an online order. They were quick with order preparation. I was missing 2 of my chicken egg rolls. I called them back and they told me that they will call me back after they check if there are any forgotten egg rolls. I never received a call. I called them back 15 minutes later and the young man on the phone credited me 2 chicken egg rolls for my next visit. I will not be returning. My pork egg roll was fine but when I went to eat my one chicken egg roll, it was SOUR. I hope I do not get food poisoning. The steamed dumplings I ordered were doughy and unflavored. The filling looks like a meatball??? They are inedible. Do NOT recommend. Stay away. They used to be really good but this was an awful experience. I only rated 2 stars because of the prompt service and the nice cashier.

A great local place with nice flavors. The staff were polite and friendly. We got the dumplings and shrimp chowmein. Both were good and had nice flavors. Don't forget to get their fresh fruit juice. It was really great. Overall a good local place with decent prices.

Review Visit: November 12th, 2016…read more I wonder if they have a Peoria Buffet in Hong Kong... ha. Ok, lame jokes aside, I may have found a new love at this buffet. Jalapeno Pepper Chicken. Soooo good. I generally get General Tsao's (or Tso's) because it is supposed to have a nice spicy kick to it, but this takes the cake. General is hit and miss at places on spicyness, but I think Jalapeno Pepper Chicken would have a consistent spicy kick due to the... well, peppers. A few of the items on the buffet were meh. The sweet and sour chicken was a bit dough-y. Sugar biscuits had clumps of sugar instead of it being evenly distributed. General Tsao's was not spicy, but was still good. We came here for my friends birthday and I am pretty sure I have been here before to eat. I know my friend comes here at least once a week to get food to go. Yup, they sell food to go. Probably charge by the weight of the container? I don't know. I typically don't add buffets to my travel list. Why exactly? I don't have a specific reason, really. But I've added this and Grand Village Buffet now, so there are exceptions to my rules. This one is a bit pricey. The price for a dinner on a Saturday night was $15 and change. All in all, a pretty good buffet. The service was prompt. Selection was decent and plentiful despite them closing 90 minutes after we got there. Online reviews are hit and miss, but that seems standard for any Chinese buffet/restaurant.

Review Visit: December 16th, 2012…read more Jade Garden, or as the locals call in, 'Jah-day Gar-deen' (with a french accent). Maybe it is just my circle of friends that call it that, but it's a fun take on a pretty delicious Chinese restaurant. This one is a pretty well-known place in East Peoria that almost everyone has as it is not only delicious, but one of the few Chinese places to get food, up until recently. Being a local favorite among a lot of people I know, we decided to go there and get some food. At it's core, Jade Garden is your typical 'fast food Chinese place'. It has the dated light up menu, it has the giant paper menu and it has the kids running around. Now these aren't negative things. But if you never been to one of these places, those are the things you can expect. I can't remember this trip verbatim. We got there, ordered food and sat down. They were nice enough to bring our food out to us as we were seated around the corner from the cashier counter. Typically these places do not have a ton of seating and this place is the same, if not having a bit more than what I am used to. Now I have visited a lot of these style of restaurants and for the most part, they are all about the same tasting. But Jade Garden is a notch above. Not sure what the difference here is. Everything just tasted a bit better. Even my friends agreed that it was super good. Even on sub sequential visits, I have had great food. To wrap up the first visit though, we all enjoy a great meal and even hung out for awhile afterwards to relax, chit-chat and let the food settle. Since my first visit, East Peoria has acquired a Panda Express and a Jun's Chinese Restaurant (which has unfortunately closed). I am kind of jumping around here but Jade is a notch above your typical fast food Chinese place. If you find yourself in the East Peoria area and need some great Chinese, give 'Jah-day Gar-deen' a chance! Photos are a bit lacking for this place, so I will try to get more when I go back in the near future.

Review Visit: May 14th, 2018…read more If you thought Jimmy Johns was freaky fast.... A few people I know have suggested Chang's Wok Inn recently; so on a Monday afternoon a friend and I decided to pop in and check it out. We were seated fairly quick by our waitress. They had a lunch special that ended at 2:30p and we were ordering at 2:31p. I asked if we could still get the lunch special and she said no. Despite that, we found something on the menu and no sooner did we place the order, our waitress walked out with our food. It was freaky fast how quickly our food came out! This place might as well have been a fast food Chinese restaurant. Despite how quickly it came out, the food was top notch. Some of the best I've had in a long while. My friend said his food was good as well. Upon leaving, we were discussing Chang's and my friend mentioned that he was dissatisfied with the service. Not that it was bad, but the waitress barely said more than 3 words and treated us as if we were a bit of a nuisance. I didn't pay much attention to that while there but once he mentioned it, I would have to agree. This place would've gotten a 5/5 if the service was a bit more... personable. But I am still rating them high since the food came out super quick and was very delicious. They also offer food to go, if you want to grab some and take it home. Should you eat there and need something to wash the food down with, there is a coffeehouse a few businesses over called The Spot. Freaky fast, freaky delicious, freaky service.

That was probably one of the most delicious meals that I have had in a long time. I tried shrimp with lobster sauce from Ming's restaurant, but I found disappointment. I have also tried the baby fried shrimp with shrimp fried rice from Chinatown. It was also delicious. I would also recommend the crab rangoon and the chicken teriyaki sticks. The only thing that I wish was better was the delivery time, you have to spend a $20 minimum for delivery plus a delivery fee. I find myself normally waiting around 45 minutes for them to arrive. They have never arrived past their estimated delivery time. I still give Chinatown kitchen five stars because all in all everything was to my satisfaction.

DoorDash came to the rescue and Chinatown Kitchen came up highly recommended. I was thinking of some Vietnamese food as pho is my favorite but they closed early. I'm glad because Chinatown Kitchen was really good. First let me just say there will be enough food to feed 3 people or two hungry people. I got the happy family with chicken, shrimp, imitation crab, pork, and beef. It was loaded with tons of vegetables and a mild but flavorful brown sauce. It came with a huge side of fried rice. The fried rice had peas, diced carrots, and onion in there which I always appreciate instead of just plain rice. I also tried the à la carte pork egg roll (hot, crispy, and excellent). I did my best but at the end could only make a dent in a third of it. Which means one thing: leftovers for breakfast...lol

Review Visit: February 2nd, 2013…read more A Chinese restaurant by any other name has the same exact menu. Lian Wang, like many other restaurants of the same nature, offers the same thing that every other carry-out Chinese restaurant offers. I am in no way saying that that is a bad thing. In fact, I am a lover of these hole-in-the-wall style restaurants. Servings tend to be large and prices more than affordable. Lian Wang is no different. Situated in a strip mall in that strange area between Creve Coeur and Pekin known as... North Pekin... Lian Wang serves up your typical fast Chinese. With a menu that you've seen at a million other Chinese restaurants, you'll more than likely find what you are looking for without much issue. Having been here a few times since 2013, I can say that the food and service are great upon repeated visits. The person that took my order was the same each time and she started to get what I wanted down to a 'T'. While I stand aside and wait for my food to come out, I notice that the cashier has half of the area's orders memorized. Almost each customer that came in was offered with the remark of "the usual"? Now that is quite the memory. Like I said, Lian Wang offers nothing new or exciting but that is exactly what you get with these kinds of places. Familiar menu items and familiar tastes at prices that are super affordable. If you like these kinds of places, Lian Wang won't disappoint.
