Golden kitchen is a gem. The establishment is very clean. People are friendly and accommodating. I ordered the vegetarian mapo tofu. I asked for it spicy which i love. However it was so spicy i could not eat it. They remade it no charge. The fresh fruit smoothies are amazing. While i live in st louis i wish i had a golden kitchen to frequent! read more

Hands down best crab rangoons in Peoria we both said! Staff is very friendly, store is clean and menu is huge. Lots of options and all served in large portions at reasonable prices. Had effects drop wonton soup, beef and brocoli with fried rice and order of crab rangoons. Plenty left for like 2 more meals! Will be returning...sorry I waited so long to visit. I bought the lunch shrimp chow mein with crab ragoon as my side. The shrimp and white rice were good. Disppointed that rest was just bok choy. Crap Ragoon tasted like fried cream cheese. i guess that's why it was so cheap. Not sure why others are raving about it. Maybe it's the cook today. It is very very odd to give a place like this five stars. Please understand, this is not a "Five Star" Restaurant, and I know that. You order at a counter, and sit at one of 6 small tables. Their drinks are self serve out of a cooler, and they don't have hot tea, you have to make your own. Its in a strip mall. I understand that this doesn't paint the picture matching my review. Here is why this place gets 5 stars: Because this is the BEST Chinese food I have ever had. Keep in mind, I am not a connoisseur of Chinese cuisine. I do not understand the subtle differences between Hunan, or Cantonese. I don't know regions. I can't judge authenticity. What I can judge is flavor, freshness, and quality. This place was great compared to the Chinese food places in the Peoria area. My husband and I just moved here from CA and were having trouble finding any delicious Chinese food places out here. The Golden Kitchen did not disappoint! The staff was very friendly, and our food was delivered fairly quickly- granted, we were the only customers at the time. A few others came and went ordering pick-up. The place is somewhat small, so it doesn't really invite you to stay too long. I ordered the orange chicken with fried rice. I am really picky about the texture of the meat I eat. I can't really handle soft meat at Chinese restaurants. I was so pleased to see that my chicken came out crunchy and delicious! The rice had a bit of a smokey taste to it, but it tasted great with the chicken. My husband ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice. He thought it was "very tasty". It was also pretty crunchy. My husband and I are relatively new to the area, so we don't really know where the good places are yet. We followed the reviews here on Yelp to Golden Kitchen. We weren't disappointed! The interior is quite small. It wouldn't seat that many people who wanted to eat in, but I'm guessing the majority of their business is take-out. As far as I could tell, they don't offer delivery. The menu is quite large and they have lunch specials and chef specials as per usual. The prices are comparable to any other Chinese place. Most of the dishes are offered in two sizes - a pint and a quart, which I really like. Since we found the place, we've ordered the sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour shrimp, pork egg roll, hot and sour soup, vegetable fried rice, chicken lo mein and the sweet biscuit appetizer. Everything was great, though the hot and sour soup was kind of a let down. It was a little bland. The chicken lo mein, however, was some of the best I've ever had. I don't know how Golden Kitchen compares to other Chinese places in the area since I haven't tried any of them, but I know that it's really good and affordable. Give them a shot! read more

I love the food here. Always fixed fresh hot and delicious! No one makes better steamed dumplings anywhere. Their lunch specials are served with ample portions and your choice of soup or eggroll or crab rangoon. All choices satisfy well. It's a small shop, pretty far from the beaten track, but easily accessed from I-74. The kitchen is clean and the staff is friendly and efficient. For the life of me I just don't get the super high reviews of this place. We had dinner there last night and had really high hopes of a memorable Asian food place in the Peoria area. The food was mediocre at best. My wife got noodle and chicken and it was 98% noodles, virtually no chicken and little flavor. I ordered the highly touted Peanut Butter Chicken. The dish was very oily, very little flavor, and the fried chicken was so thin that it came out tough on serving. No more visits to this spot. I am not impressed with most Chinese food restaurants, so when I heard about this one, I drug my heels. I was sooo wrong. This place is a delight. We had fried dumplings, crab rangoon, sesame chicken, moo shu pork..Oh my goodness..the dumplings are amazing! The best I've had snywhere. The crab Rangoon were wonderfull, hot, crunchy, creamy. Dude! I think the local Yelp reviewers must share a taste bud and it wasn't their turn to use it when they ate at this place. I had a nice, crispy, greasy egg roll (hard to do); an order of bland, oddly flavored Szechuan chicken, and some hot and sour dishwater soup (yum!). I also had pork fried rice that tasted like they showed the rice a box of flavor but refused to share. My son had orange chicken that was pretty good. This place does't provide soy sauce or duck sauce packets (might be too much for the local palate) nor do they provide chopsticks. Although, they do sell some pretty nice plastic chopsticks for $1 per pair. This place was highly recommended by the clerk at the front desk of our hotel ( no staying here again!). We drove a ways to get here because of the reviews and paid quite a bit for, IMO, bland and soft (not crispy) Chinese food. Its frustrating because we did it due to yelp reviews. I'm really not a food snob, I love most Chinese, but please try a small serving before you order a big take out to make sure you this is your taste. Obviously some people love it, but both my husband and I (polar opposite tastes, usually), thought it was not good. Enough, that he refuses to eat the leftovers. We had Orange Chicken ( large, soft pieces..I would recommend smaller more crispy pieces) and kung pao ( my husband said it's the worst he's had) and beef schezwan (sp?), which looked very heavy on vegis but my MIL like. I live about a mile from golden kitchen and let me tell you I order take out from this place all the time because it is so dang good. You get so much food with each entre. For example, one entre will easily feed two full size adults with big appetites. I always get the peanut butter chicken and it's so delicious. This is my favorite place to get Chinese food from. I come here at least a couple of times a month. I always get the sesame chicken special combo with white rice and an egg roll. The food is always delicious and hot. I have not had any issues so far. I also get an order of eight crab Rangoon and I usually buy a soda with it. Sometimes I get their smoothies which are also very good. I believe they use fresh fruit in them and they have many flavors to choose from. I love coming here because the food is good and the lady is always super nice. They have a small dine in area but I usually get food to go. I spend about $15 and it always fills me up so I believe the food is worth the price. I will gladly be coming back and I recommend this place to anyone who likes Chinese food. read more

I have lived in Peoria for only the last year and a half. Moved here from the East Coast where we are serious about Asian cuisine. Golden Kitchen is seriously my #1 Asian choice from here on. In addition to excellent food at an extremely good price, the owner Su and all the staff there are professional & truly understand the oft-forgotten concept of Customer Service. Quite refreshing. The restaurant seats only a few, but the decor is nice, well-lit and CLEAN. I occasionally eat in with my family, but usually get take-out. No odours, only the aroma of well prepared, classic Chinese food. The cookies with the paper in them are not the only great Fortune that awaits you when you eat at Golden Kitchen. What has happened to Chinese take out? Ordered Sweet and sour shrimp. I got home and it was chicken Had to drive back to get replacement. All it was was breading soaked in grease with a small piece of shrimp in each piece..I paid almost $10.00 for this. These people also don't seem to know what vegetables are. It used to be sweet and sour shrimp was a meal with green peppers,tomato.onion and pineapple.Anyone remember that? I also had an order of egg foo young. Don't you just love biting down on egg shells! Would i give this place more if i could.....yes! First i was hungry for anything and everything so the lady at the register helped describe dishes on the menu. I got 2 appetizers, one was an order of 8 crab rangoon and the other was a vegetable egg roll. The crab rangoon was recommended and i can see why. They were lightly fried and when you bite into them the sweet cream cheese oozes out. They were a crispy delight. The egg roll was good but i will describe it as just ordinary. Nothing btw was greasy. The dishes i ordered were phenomenal. The first was the Spicy Hot Bean Curd (Tofu) with Minced Pork. It was make your nose run spicy hot but not ruin the flavor spicy hot. There was an abundance amount of tofu with a small amount of peas and garlic to enhance the flavor and the pork was nice also in the sauce. This dish is addictive btw you just cant stop eating it. The other dish was Hunan Shrimp. The shrimp are very plump and large and not over cooked. The broccoli and red peppers were crisp and the light garlic in the sauce finished the dish. The small amount of heat in the brown sauce was spot on. And the rice....omg the pork fried rice is great. Cant say enough for a place in a strip mall by Krogers. After reading reviews for this place I decided to give it a try. We ordered the vegetable lo mein, fresh broccoli w/garlic sauce, and a pint of the egg fried rice. Everything was very delicious! I have to admit I was a little bit afraid that this place was going to be mediocre, however it was really good! This is a must go to place if you want great chinese food! I will be honest, after reading the reviews I was really excited about finding a good Chinese restaurant. The crab ragoon was the sweeter kind, it was really good, but I ordered orange chicken, and it was more like Orange breading, with poor quality pieces of chicken. WAY TOO MUCH BREADING. The sauce was good. But I was so disappointed that they cut corners on the chicken. I'd definitely make it clear if I went there again if that is "normal", to tell me and I will go somewhere else. AND I would also ask if it can be made with white meat. I'd pay for the better meat. I threw almost all of mine away . My 7yrold daughter said she gives their General Tsoa's chicken 5 million stars.
