I ordered orange chicken. It came with a soggy bread coating and a small amount of orange sauce drizzled over it. The accompanying "fried rice". was nothing but white rice doused in soy sauce, no vegetables or egg. Never again. read more

I ordered a garlic chicken lunch special today. It was not good. The vegetables were so crunchy you couldn't get your fork through them. I had all vegetables and barely had any chicken, I didn't taste the garlic at all and the chicken was bland. The worst $15 dollars I've spent in a long time. I'm so disappointed I don't know where to begin.... First off I ordered an egg roll, sweet & sour pork, steamed dumplings and combination lo mein. The state of the egg roll was gross. It was burnt and looked like it was cooked in old oil. The sweet and sour pork ended up to be sweet and sour "chicken". The fried rice with it had no vegetables or bean sprouts and was burnt. The combination lo mein was actually over cooked linguine noodles with old meat in it. The steamed dumplings were the ones that you buy frozen at the Asian market. And the dipping sauce was some sort of sauce for noodles instead. I have Asian friends and J sent them a picture of the food. Some actually have worked in a Chinese restaurant. I was told to throw the food away. I'm from the East coast and if any east coast Chinese restaurant saw this food. They would ask the ancestors to for retribution!! read more

My husband got carry out with him getting his usual and my usual sweet and sour chicken. The sauce had too much vinegar. The chicken was dry and just not good. Pepper pieces and onion were added - not mixed in. The rice was dry. I could not eat it. We've been ordering from CE for years. Not anymore. read more

We ordered two main dishes, egg rolls, and crab Rangoon. Cashew chicken was okay, no flavor really ... the shrimp lo mien was awful. It was swimming in grease and there were 5 shrimp in a giant container of noodles. Their egg drop soup was great! This one had more of a chicken broth look to it and not golden. Still tasted the same and had green onions in it. They tasted okay alittle more aromatic for my liking. I got their mongolian beef and really did not like it. There was onions, bamboo and green onions in it. The sauce was sooo sweet like candy. I was expecting more of a salty savory sauce. I feel like this is a hidden gem in Peoria. It's a tiny little place, but the food is INCREDIBLY good, prices are reasonable (especially at lunch), and the portions are gigantic. I call ahead when picking up for lunch, and they have my order ready in less than 10 minutes. I usually get the cashew chicken, chicken lo mein, or sweet and sour chicken. All of them are amazing. No matter what entree I get, I always get the crab rangoon... I think it's the best in Peoria. I can't recommend this place high enough. Great stuff. read more

This is our favorite new chinese place!!!!! The restaurant is super clean, super organized and the staff was friendly and helpful. We only waited a few minutes for our order (we didn't call ahead) and when we got home we were pleasantly surprised that the food was well prepared, not greasy at all and very generous servings. Highly recommend this place, it outshines all the other places in Peoria that we have tried!! We will be back!! read more

I've eaten here several times for lunch and have to agree with a previous reviewer that this is a hidden gem. It is small unassuming sharing a building with a title loan concern. The food is very good, the portions large and the service quick and easy. The price is more than reasonable. Again to repeat a previous reviewer, I couldn't recommend this place more highly. The one thing I must say is that this is strictly a take out restaurant with enough room for maybe four to six waiting patrons. But the food is well worth it. read more

The Crab Rangoon and the Sweet n Sour Pork are delicious. The reason for the low score is cause, the Orange Chicken, Egg Rolls, and General Tso's Chicken were not that great. They had no flavor. The General Tso's tasted like it was just buffalo chicken, and there were no peppers of any kind in it. The egg rolls tasted off, not sure what kind they were. And the orange chicken was not that at all. I am thinking that cause they were so busy, that our order was mixed up with someone else's. I hope that was the case. read more

There was Nothing express about Chinese express! Worst ordering experience I've ever had in my life! Everything cold and cooked in what tasted like old grease. Nothing had a lick of flavor , there was no crab in the Rangoon and the egg roll tasted like flour. I ordered 3 meals nothing tastes even remotely eatable, only received 2 forks and 4 soy sauces for 3 MEALS!!! And the worst of is all was the time frame was supposed to be 40-60 mins and it didn't get here for 90 mins plus I called 13 times and my calls kept going to a not set up voicemail or a fax machine!!! I have been a faithful customer of China Express for what has to be almost 15 years. The food is always great. The service is always quick, friendly and efficient. The lunch menu has grown from what used to be something like 4 different dishes to upwards of 20 now. There is something for everyone here. This is the best Chinese food I've had in Peoria. I've been to maybe 6 or 7 other restaurants, including Jade Garden and all the buffets. The crab rangoon is AMAZING. Unlike pretty much every other restaurant around here, the rangoon are big, not too sweet, the wrapper is thick, and they don't give off the impression that they are just frozen from a box. Truly the best crab rangoon in Peoria. The fried rice is pretty good, not very greasy. The lo mein is not the best I've had in Peoria, but very decent. The egg roll wasn't very good. The restaurant is clean, and the service is friendly. They give you a TON of food at a good price. I highly recommend this place... just make sure you get some crab rangoon. read more

The crab rangoon, and Sweet and sour chicken were great! The Eggroll was ok...Reason for the low score is because I had my food delivered, (Lunch special was $5.95, and Crab rangoon was an additional $2.95, expecting to spend roughly $10-$12) When the delivery driver walked in he said the total was $15.50 - $9.80 for the food, and $5.50 for the delivery. $5.50 for the delivery!! That's a above and beyond my wildest expectations! I expected a delivery charge, but not at the cost of the meal. I won't be ordering from here via delivery ever again, not just because of the fact of the cost, but the person who took my order, didn't even give me a total. On their website (www.chinaexpressrestaurant.com) it does not say there is a delivery fee involved. The food was great so I will order from again, but I will choose to pick it up myself next time! read more

I am compelled to write this review because I have, in fact, had Chinese food before. Numerous times. In numerous cities. That's not to say that this place was bad, but 5 stars is just silliness. The vegetable lo mein did not have fresh veggies, like a prior review said. Most of it (except the broccoli) was canned and the sodium levels were off the charts!! The crab rangoons, are definitively NOT the best in town, as it's just pure fried cream cheese. And the shrimp fried rice has some sort of strange, little, baby shrimp. I thought at first it was just chopped, but on closer inspection there were no knife marks. It's just creepy mini shrimp. I'm not saying that I will never eat here again. It is affordable and the portions are large. But just know what you're getting yourself into.... read more

I read a handful of good Yelp reviews before I visited this place. Not sure what the raving was all about because I was disappointed. I ordered the orange chicken with fried rice. Although the portions were big, the prices reasonable, the food was just not good. I have had a lot of great Chinese food before and the food here was mediocre. The fried rice had too much soy sauce it in, and the orange chicken, not sure what type of flavor it had, too salty and didn't taste orang-y nor fresh to me. I ate some of it and threw the rest of it away. On the upside, the customer service was excellent. Found the gentleman to be polite and they were quick to get my order together. read more
