Today Carole and I had the pleasure of going to Golden Gate Optical Center on Big Beaver and Dequindre. Upon arriving we were greeted so nicely. The doctor examine my eyes and made me read the charts and everything was going so nice. He was so helpful in explaining all the details about my eyes that made me feel really comfortable while he examined. After that, we went into the front of the office to look at the many choices of beautiful glasses and frames. Dina Sitto, , then owner of this establishment She had Carole and I first pick out stunning frames and after that she measures the lens as well as the frames and explains , on how the glasses would work with tints and how the lens will work with your eyesight. If you ever need glasses, this is a place to go. They definitely know how to do everything just perfectly for you.. on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give Golden Gate Optical Center a huge 15. read more

This place is absolutely horrible, this lady, who I think is the owner, is an absolute money sucker. Insurance should cover all the basics, correct? Apparently not here because we had to pay extra money for a pair of glasses and they're "insurance coveraged" frames have almost no selection. You get a box with frames and that's it. Then you get shamed and gaslit into paying more money for stuff that should be cover with insurance. I think this place might be stealing from insurance companies too because our insurance covers for once per 2 years but we get reminders every year. The doctor I great thought, he should go work somewhere where people aren't scamming people in broad daylight. I recommend going to Walmart or something where they don't charge you extra everything for stuff that is covered. read more

Very friendly staff! Although the glasses I purchased are horrible. I have had them for two months and the lenses are all scratched up. Paid for scratch resistant lenses and have only used the cloth and cleaner they gave me. Was talked into the frames, said they looked great on me. Which they do! But they are cheaply made and falling apart. They are so bad that I will have to buy another pair. And I've only had them 2 months. Of course I will be going someplace else. The service at this optical is very bad they made me pay twice for my daughter glasses for the lens even she have her insurance. Few months after she got them there was foggy spot on one of them and they said it doesn't cover , I told them I'm not paying any more money and they said they going to check and let me know after couple days but they didn't until after 8 days they left me a message saying bring the glasses to change the lenses and after they finished change them , he said give me the money, so I had no choice and paid after I told him none of my family members will ever come here because he lied to me :( I paid $140 dollars just for the none glair read more

I have a been a patient of golden gate optical for a few years. I am quite disappointed with the lack of Service and professionalism. I bought a pair of glasses from them and one of the reasons was that they told me I had a lifetime warranty. They mentioned to me that as long as I had the glasses they would replace the damage with a fee. Now, I am in need of replaced glasses but they have changed their "policy" and are stating that wasn't the case. Not only that the owner, Dina was not understanding of what she had originally promised me, but she also failed to work with me. Clearly no one I would do business with again. read more

The other reviewer was right about them being rude and very pushy sales people! The glasses you like they like they do not give you real feedback. They treat customers like you may steal glasses by not allowing you to get a pair of glasses off the shelf and only they can put them back up so you don't steal any. I have been going here for over 20 years. Initially I only went here to fill a prescription for glasses (went to another eye doctor)/ I found Golden Gate in my insuarance network. The owner at that time (Danny) was concerned about the prescription that was written by the other eye doctor. He felt it would cause one of my eyes to become weaker. He took the time to explain his concerns to me, consult with another doctor, develope another presription and then allow me to wear a sample of that prescription for a half an hour in his store to see if I could tolerate it (long story, but prior to this, glasses made me dizzy on stars). The glasses Danny made for me were the first ones I could wear on stairs and not get dizzy! I was thrilled! I have been going here ever since and hope they are in business as long as I need glasses! The service is really bad. The people are shady - please make sure to ask for your total before you do any exams. They will tell you bunch of stuff as to why your total is so high but don't believe them. In addition, DO NOT buy any of the name brand frames, they are all FAKE! I bought a GUCCI frame for $400 and it turns out to be fake (checked with an authorized GUCCI dealership). Will never go back to that place. Dina at Golden Gate has the expertise in lens design to make the thinnest lenses for long-sighted vision anywhere in Detroit. These are the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with the manager called to let me know my contacts were in, not that I need vision correction but I did the color contact trial last year, ended up needing a cornea transplant they didn't actually teach me how to work with contacts they handed me a sample and said to try them. I bought 2 boxes however I ended up in the ER for a corneal laceration & ulcer. Many people have told me to sue them as I'm now blind in my right eye! As my eye lloks like that of a dead fish. I wanted to get contacts to help it look more normal. The manager called to let me know they were in he proceeded to yell at me I was asking them to check their stock room as I never picked up the ones from last year he just kept yelling over me, after the 3rd time I was interrupted I said can I finish my sentence he said NO I no let you finish you have to pick these up, as he wouldn't let me speak I hung up on him they're charging 20% more than the store directly across the street and the service /treatment is beyond obnoxious I'd pay more to go ANYWHERE else. read more
