It has a 50 neighborhood diner feel with a large bar area and it seems it hadn't been cleaned since the 50's either including a strange odor upon entry but hey we thought no biggie well we ordered dinner came fast so points there but I ordered their signature black diamond sirloin it was marinated for so long it no longer tasted like beef how could a steak be both burnt and raw at the same time it was without a doubt the worst steak I have ever had it was 90% fibrous ligaments un edible the salad and fries were good the wait staff is friendly and the view was nice but the old smell and terrible steaks were beyond reproach I highly recommend you keep driving there is much better food a couple of miles further read more

A must see if you are in western Massachusetts ! The view is breathtaking and the food is fantastic. The Haddock, shrimp and scallops were as good as ocean front. The carving station Prime rib was the best I have had that i can remember, as tender as could possibly be ! Between us we all ate every meat, fish and lasagna meatballs. Salad bar and blue cheese had all the extras. Then hearing the history and family stories will make it may annual go to when returning to Mass or Vermont. Don't miss it !! I read about the whiner complaining about the plastic fee but I support the owner keeping prices down and not needing to push all costs up. We stopped here as a destination restaurant on our fall foliage trip. It was the perfect location, It seemed for lunch, such beautiful views. But we are sorely disappointed. The food was subpar and not worth the money that we paid. The food was not cooked completely. The french fries we had were warmed up, but that's about it. The BLT had legally enough bacon to pass, but it was pretty skimpy. We were surprised when we received our bill that there was an automatic, 18% tip added to it. When we arrived, we asked if we could split the bill among the couples that sat together , and they told us know they only billed by the table. They would not split the bill for us. So after we ate, we took out calculators to figure out who had what, what the tax should be and the hidden tip as well. The wait staff was friendly enough, but I would not recommend this restaurant. If you want the view, you can park nearby and get a good luck. If you're looking for food, I recommend you go to the FreightYard pub in North Adams, which is nearby. read more

I will preface that I have extremely low bar when it comes to expectations and am generally very generous with tipping as long as a minimum standard is met. That said, it says a lot when I tip poorly. I won't complain or make any scene, so the only way I can express my displeasure is in this way. My family was there tonight, as we hadn't found any place to stop to eat prior to this point. We were hungry, so we only required to be nourished. The food was great, but being hungry may have influenced this opinion. Also, the fact that it took nearly 20 minutes to get our order taken, with not even some bread while we waited. That came after the appetizers were finished. All of this, I am generally not critical. But one thing that I pay attention to is the attentiveness of service relative to how busy the establishment is. Tonight, at the highest point, there were 3 other parties there. Again, I don't expect much. Another thing is basic cleanliness. It is, after all, a food establishment. The small plates that were at the table for appetizers/bread were extremely dirty. There was a film on them, like an egg yolk; something dull and dried. I could rub it off with my finger and the shiny porcelain underneath. There was only bottled water and the prices were at a 3 to 4-star range. I would gladly pay that, if what I received was worth accordingly. That said, the prices were outrageously overpriced for the quality I was getting. This place has existed almost a century. I am surprised it has, based on this first encounter. People go for the view but the food is so very good! We ate inside but you can get a table overlooking the mountains. We got the fish & chips, cup of mushroom soup, burger and a crock of french onion. It was all delicious and not too salty. I often worry about beef based soups but these were so flavorful but again not salty where I needed to drink a gallon of water afterwards. We had a fairly good sized group but service was fast, correct and cooked well and served hot. I'll be sure to stop in again when we're traveling route 2 just at the hair pin turn. read more

We did a ride out on Sunday since it was a long time that we did the Mohawk Trail on Motorcycles. We were told to go here for food because it was great....well, not so much and I don't complain usually but I also work in the food industry and this was definitely not great at all. The prices were high for what we ordered and she messed up 4 out of 7 orders. Again, I would not complain, but she wrote it all down...we had to ask a couple of times for drinks that we had ordered and she kept forgetting to bring them over. We were told she would give us waters because after all it was 90 degrees out. Those did not come until almost the end of the meal. Don't get me wrong, stop and check out the "view" and maybe a drink but I would pass on the food....there are other places to check out. read more

When we walked in a guy in a filthy apron was loudly instructing people to sit wherever they want. The other reviews mentioned how dated this place is. Yep, right out of the 1970's. No craft beers and I was surprised that it didn't even serve Heineken, Stella Artois was it's top beer. We ordered gin and tonics. I recalled that the gratis, crackers and bean dip appetizer (mayonaise, touch mustard, finely chopped onion and beans) was called " vegetarian Caviar" way back in the 1970's or early 1980's. Loved the unique food offerings (you just don't find some of these things on the menu anymore), drinks were freshly made, and the service, albeit a little slow, was good and they cared that everyone in the party was pleased with their order. I have to admit, we stopped here for the view and after such a huge breakfast this morning before setting out for the summit of Mt. Greylock we were not hungry at all. However, it was in our plans to have lunch here. We were both glad we did. We sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather of the day and of course the fantastic view from the veranda. Our waitress was great! She was efficient and quick but also took the time to visit with us. She inquired as to where we've been and where we were heading. She gave us suggestions of things to see in our travels and also confirmed our choices of things we've already done. My wife and I both ordered the French Onion soup and were happy we did. I'm always concerned when ordering it because I've had so many that were served over salted. This French Onion soup was done perfectly for us. Gooey cheese with a nice piece of toasted bread, plenty of onions and time to enjoy it and the view. Our wonderful waitress brought out our main course as if on cue when I hit the bottom of my bowl of soup. I had the Vermonter Burger and was very satisfied with the quality, size, and flavor of this very large burger. I had to stuff the bacon back in. They served it with two whole pieces of bacon and a nice slice of VT cheddar. Lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on the side. Cooked just the way I asked for it. My wife ordered the Big City Ruben. It came stacked with a very ample amount of Corned Beef. I didn't get an offer to try it so you know my wife was enjoying it. Both of us ordered the fries with our sandwiches and they were perfect. Very much a highlight of the meal, not just an afterthought. They were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. It is too bad that we were so full because we couldn't finish all our French Fries. Our waitress tried to tempt us with dessert but we had no room left. I will not be back for food. I had high hopes for this restaurant. It's historic and iconic, and a symbol of the Mohawk Trail hairpin turn. It turns out this restaurant is painfully dated and the entree I was served was notably distasteful. My first impression walking in to the restaurant was that it was nearly empty, and looked as though not so much as a table cloth had changed in 25 years. Server's were two middle aged women who were friendly. The food isn't very good at all, and it's saddening. Shrimp cocktail was fine, no problems. . Fried Calamari was not fresh and it did not taste good. Texture was off. The vegan tuscan portobello dish was the favorite of the night. Seasoned well and veggies cooked just enough. Well done there. My broiled seafood platter was plain bad. It was notably bad. Everything was dry and chewy. The haddock was rubbery. I'm not sure if it was a crab cake but there was something on the plate that was not edible. The shrimp was dry and rubbery. The tiny morcel of crab was equally dried up which I consider a major disservice to the most delicious shellfish. I was and still am very disappointed with what I was served. And the price of this entree reaching north of $25 is angering. Let me put it this way: I do not leave a plate unfinished even if the food being served is average. I eat what I pay for and leave a clean plate. That night I left about half of the plate to be thrown away. I left Golden Eagle Restaurant feeling let down and angry, as I had anticipated this being a good experience with a special person, right around Valentine's Day. I think this facility needs to seriously reconsider its outdated business model if it wants to compete with the trendy contemporary businesses downtown. The food has got to get better, and a lot better. Investment needs to be put into a decor overhaul whilst maintaining its historical symbolism. This is one tired looking restaurant. Those businesses have set a high standard and it ought to be met with a competitive attitude or Golden Eagle will cease to exist outside of photographs and postcards. read more

Despite the place being empty, we were told we could not sit on the covered balcony because there were only four of us, and "that table is for 6 people." (The other tables out there were for 2 people). They told us we "should have made reservations". The place was still empty when we left. (2people came in, that was it.) They were "not offering tap water today, bottled only." But they have coffee, fresh brewed iced tea, and ice cubes to go with the bottled water, so it must not be a water issue. The vagaries of New England township boundaries have given this a misleading address. It's not in Clarksburg, which is a village in the valley just north of North Adams, but halfway up the mountain east of North Adams on the Mohawk Trail, at a major hairpin turn. It's an old country inn with a restaurant on the second floor. If you sit out on the balcony on a clear day, it's a stunning view of three states spread out before you. Lunch menu is small and basic. The quality is meh although the portions are large. The dinner I had with marinara sauce was hardly touched. The vegetables and mushrooms inn the fish looked fresh and were crisp. Good job. The sauce tasted too much like vinegar and ruined the flavor with a strong aftertaste, And there were bubbles of oil everywhere. They had a shaker of obviously canned parmesan cheese that helped cover the flavor. Butt, as I said, I left most of it on the plate. The waitress praised a small appetizer that they gave everyone to start. It was kidney beans in sour cream, I didn't try it. The view from the restaurant and the food might be great, which we never had a chance to view or taste the food. When we entered, we saw an old women at the reception, whom we asked for a table. She was extremely rude and had no manners (felt like she was differentiating us based on our ethnicity). That's when we decided not to dine at this place. It hurts that how people can be so rude to customers. And for the reataurant, hope you find people who are more welcoming and pleasant at the reception. This is a great little place to come to. I was visiting some family in reads borough and we wanted some dinner and we came here. The place is beautiful and inviting. The view is phenomenal I was taken away being a New Yorker seeing that view took my breath away. But back to to good stuff. The food here was incredible and the prices are reasonable. Everyone was just so nice. Being it was my first time here the waiter was very helpful with giving suggestions. The soup here A++ along with everything else. You won't be disappointed. Always stop here on my way through The Berkshires during the fall season. It's something I greatly look forward to. Yes ... the view from the upper deck is beautiful which means at times there will be a wait. No, this restaurant is not racist because you demand to be seated in the upper deck during a busy time with a long wait and don't get immediate service. The food here is average to above average. Mostly pub food but oh the views ... They must be doing something right as this place has been around since at least the 1950s and probably before. I cannot imagine sitting anywhere else other than the upper deck with beautiful views of the valley below. Probably the best dining views in all of the Berkshires. I usually try to arrive for lunch around 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to avoid the wait. There are only a few tables on the upper deck outside. It is a bit of a bummer that at times they put these plastic curtains down when it's slightly chilly. I get that they block the wind/cold air but I'd rather wear a jacket and not have obstructed views. Small gripe though. Service is friendly always and the food is decent. I've had the burger, which I enjoyed and the French fries are crisp and good. The turkey dinner used to be good but the last few times it's been dry, sliced too thin and the cranberry sauce comes from a can. I tend not to eat fish this far away from the ocean but my dining companion liked her salmon a lot. The soup also is great. They have a few local beers on tap as well. All in all, you really can't go wrong here as it's been around forever. I've never had any interactions with staff that weren't good ones and I tend to be very picky. Don't expect the best food you ever tasted but you can expect good food priced reasonably and served with an amazing view of the valley. During fall, it's quite a place to take guests! read more

Honestly one of the worst dining experiences in my life. If it wasn't for my consideration for COVID-19 I'd be giving only 1 star. The plastic dividers make you feel like you're in a dingy hospital. Our food was served and we didn't get napkins or utensils until a while later when we flagged down the waitress. The food itself was just sad. I ordered the cheeseburger. The thing legitimately had cheese and a burger. That's it. We weren't asked if we wanted any additions or anything. Did not taste fresh either. The fries tasted like frozen fries cooked in old oil. The views are impecable, it's really sad that this is the only thing the restaurant seems to depend on. Echoing previous Yelpers, the view is great. The service was excellent as well. The food, not so much. The prices are extremely reasonable, however, and the fries were superb. They were similar to Burger King fries, with that extra crispy coating that melts in your mouth. Yum! Just be forewarned, the Veggie Wedgie is only a veggie burger, not a real couscous salad sandwich as the description would lead you to believe. They described it as 'a medley of vegetables, brown rice, and rolled oats on Brown Berry bread'. What came out was a Morningstar Farms veggie burger on a day-old Stop & Shop bun with lettuce and tomato. It was tough to chew, but being famished we chowed down. Despite the junky burger, you really can't beat that view. It's truly breathtaking. If you're on your way up to Mass MoCA, this is an ideal place to stop before the museum to get a cheap lunch. read more

Great view marred by crummy food and poor attitude. I live in the area and had never tried the place due to middling reputation. Decided to give it a shot. Came at 4pm with 2 friends. All the many covered balcony seats were open, but we were told they were all reserved, so we can only have seats on side porch under blazing sun. Servers who "checked seating chart" clearly lying. Against better judgement, took sunny seats and had beers (very limited selection) and snacks. Snacks were pitiful- fried from frozen, greasy. No seats on balcony were ever taken the whole time we were there. Server was nice - perhaps trying to make up for lying? Will never return. read more

We drove on Rt. 2 last November to avoid pre-Thanksgiving traffic on the Mass Pike, and that was when we discovered the famous Hairpin Turn. When we saw there was a restaurant at the turn (which was pretty scary to drive in the dark on a night when it was sleeting) we decided we had to come back and eat there and see the view properly. We were only there for the view, but the restaurant was perfect. They have vegetarian and vegan options, a children's menu, and one of the best waiters I've ever seen in action. Because it was August, we had the option to eat outside or inside in front of a huge picture window. The food arrived immediately, perfectly hot, everything exactly as we'd requested. The view and the goofy turn were a big draw for my son, who was sleeping when we drove it last fall. We got to use those binocular machines outside the restaurant to peer down into the pretty valley. Let's get this out of the way: the VIEW!!! Eating on the balcony on a breezy summer day is what I imagine Heaven feels like. That said, by the look of this place, I didn't have high expectations. Everything else on Rt 2 is run down or out of business. This place looks pretty run down too. It needs a fresh paint job. But I've ridden past it a thousand times, the parking lot always has a few cars and Motorcycles, so they must be doing something right. Maybe it's just the view? Okay, so they have a good location... but how's the food? Turns out, really, really good. Surprisingly good. Shockingly good. I had a bleu cheese and bacon burger that was out of this world. Thick. Juicy. Cooked correctly as I ordered it. Real bleu cheese crumbles, not just bottled dressing like most places. Crispy bacon. The roll looks homemade and tasted great. Amazing. The fries were good, crispy and uniform. Only 2 nitpicky things: the tomato they served with the burger was pink and flavorless, the sort of tomato you'd buy in a cellophane 3 pack (a bit of an insult to such an EPIC burger) and the prices. My burger, fries, and a diet coke ran me $16. Still, that was a damn fine burger... Biker friendly, great view, great food! 4 stars!!! read more

Ehhhhh. This would be such a terrible restaurant, except they have perhaps the best location in all of Western Massachusetts. Located at the edge of the hairpin turn on the Mohawk Trail, you can enjoy your dinner with stunning views of the mountains. We ate outside on the porch in August at sunset, and it really was beautiful. You know what would be great? If you could just pay them a small surcharge and hang out on the porch and enjoy the view. Because all of the dining elements of our meal were mediocre-to-bad. Our waitress was friendly and well-meaning, but honestly just not a good waitress. She was slow and she forgot things, repeatedly. The food was not delicious. I ordered a steak, it was eh. My stepdad got seafood, it was not good - he didn't eat some of it because it tasted off. My mom got one of the day's specials, which was very different than how it had been described - the waitress noticed my mom's surprise, but didn't offer to do anything about it even after my mom pointedly asked about the preparation. The waitress made a comment about how my mom hardly touched her food, but again didn't ask how the food was or offer to do anything. And she seemed surprised when we all declined to-go boxes! It would be one thing if this restaurant was inexpensive, but it's not. It was easily over $100 for the three of us, and that's without any drinks. This would be a great place to charge to an expense account. If you can't get someone else to pay for your dinner, come once - pick a beautiful day, and come at sunset. What a great view! Worth everything but the food is not bad at all. Had the New England clam chowder and the OBX haddock, Cajun style. Both were very good.
