Dumplings appetizer

Located in downtown North Adams (the entire downtown is worth a stroll - they had awesome ice sculptures when we visited), Mengs offers a variety of Asian cuisine. We went on a Saturday evening and it actually filled up pretty fast. The decor is cool with lots to look at. You can see the sushi being made right at the counter. The menu is vast. Lots of different Asian foods. Service was not that great though. One woman seemed to be serving the entire restaurant and she couldn't help with menu questions or drink requests. In fact, we tried to order the drink special (which was on the board) and she first claimed to have never heard of it and then said the person who does the deliveries was the only one that could make it and she'd get it to us when that person returned. Needless to say we never saw that drink. In fact, it was a bit annoying to never see her again. We never got asked if our food was okay nor did we get water refills. The food was okay. My dining partner got the duck and loved it. I went with chicken pad Thai and the chicken just wasn't very good. The overall noodle dish was good and very heavy on the lemon but something didn't seem very tasty with the chicken. I didn't get sick or anything so probably just how they made it. Prices were a bit high for the quality and service. I likely wouldn't return and would try other restaurants in the area if I was looking for dinner next time.

Very good, I like basically all their food. Good prices too. The service is very kind. It's very close to main street and very welcoming.

This is something I will no longer do. For about the last year and a half or so, IMHO, the restaurant has continually gone downhill. Where in years past the staff always made the customer feel very welcome, that feeling of being welcomed seems to have evaporated. I'm under the impression now, based on the last three visits, that the front woman running things just wants your order and then be done with it. She's not the same person from a few years ago. Last night I ordered what is called the "Seafood Wor Bar". The only items in the order that tasted anywhere like they should were the shrimp, and maybe the scallops, being on the small side, and not very plump at all; both tasted fairly well. The menu showed shrimp, scallops, crab and lobster. There was not one piece of lobster at all. And the crab was that fake crab you can buy in the grocery store made from a fish called the Pollock. Regarding the so-called crab, they were about the size of the first segment of one of your fingers_ maybe an inch long and about half an inch wide. For me the most epic thing regarding this so-called crab meat was the lack of taste; nothing like crab at all and very bland. Even the texture was way off. When chewing all I got was a mushiness. I never like thinking what I'm about to text, but I have to be honest here. Until they get the buffet up and running again, because right now it's menu only, there's no way I could recommend to anyone going to this restaurant. Also, as the name of the restaurant is still shown on the sign as "Oriental Buffet, All You Can Eat", I feel they should change the name of the restaurant and get rid of the all you can eat part of it. Three or four visits back, I asked the woman if I could order more without it costing me more because of the name of the restaurant, and she looked at me like I was an alien, and when I explained to her that at the bottom of the name it still says all you can eat, she explained that's only with buffet. I used to really look forward to and enjoy going to this restaurant, but not anymore. I doubt if I'll go until things get back to what I consider the old normal.

Good Night - Crispy wild shrimp with shishito

We went to Good Night for dinner on a Tuesday recently and it was a great experience…read more The vibe of this place is great. It really felt like a cool, upscale dining. We were pleasantly surprised to see how many people were there that night, which helped contribute to the atmosphere. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive. We started with the Tteok Bokki and Crispy Wild Shrimp with Shishito peppers. We also got the Bibimbap and the Vietnamese steak frites. The flavors throughout this meal were well developed and delicious. The Tteok Bokki was so special and cheesy and delicious. Almost like a chewy rice noodle Asian Mac and cheese vibe. The wild shrimp dish was great. The components were all great, what was super surprising was how amazing the shishito peppers were. It was the best bite of that dish, which is saying a lot. The mains were equally as good. The flavors were all there. The steak was tender and delicious. The bibimbap was so good. We happily took home our leftovers. Overall, it was a great experience. It was a good price, given how well everything was executed, and I would happily come back either just for cocktails and apps or for the full meal.

We decided on Good Night because of the diverse menu, atmosphere, and we had eaten there while in town last year. We made reservations for the eight of us consisting of six adults and two children (both kids were my two year old grand babies). Upon arrival there were approximately four other tables eating there. Music played loudly in the background and people talked and laughed equally as loud. Our server came out and took our drink order. We had the babies seated in the center of the table next to each other with their parents on each side and grandparents across from them. They were extremely well behaved and quiet. We gave them each a book. Then, we put an iPad between them while playing a movie. Soon after, the assistant manager came over to our table and told my daughter "I'm going to need you to turn that down. Thank you"', and walked away. This was a kids iPad that even at max volume is not that loud. The sound of the iPad was in no way louder than noise level of the restaurant. The iPad was actually much lower than the voices at our own table. The babies were actually leaning in to hear. At that point I knew we weren't wanted as we were a family of minorities. We were the only table of black and brown people there. We shouldn't have to say that our table consisted of an anesthesiologist, a chemist, an engineer, executives, two babies, and a teacher. We shouldn't have to say that we are a very middle class family who dine in restaurants of similar caliber (often with the babies) probably weekly; yet, have never ever been asked such a thing. So we politely put on our coats and left. On the way out we did speak to the general manager who apologized and offered us a meal at a later time which we declined
