He spent about an hour examining my 8 year old Volvo's electrical issue and determine that a $3,500 part plus labor needed to be replaced and that this type of repair is common on my year Volvo. He told me that getting the part and the repair would be more economical and timely if done by a Volvo dealership. He also suggested going to a specialized shop which repairs electrical issues might save me some $$. ( he had referals) He also performed a plug in diagnostic of other issues that the dealer should look at but told me let the dealership tell you the problems. Very honest answer as I am 68 years old and probably would consider buying a new car rather that getting this one repaired I tied to reimburse him for his time but he declined I will use him on my future maintenance needs.
