E9 - Brain - () with beet horseradish sauce and grilled veggies

My wife and I stopped by today for an early dinner. We shared all the dishes. The flaki was very tasty, the herring appetizer was very well presented and the herring paired nicely with the pickled onions, egg salad and beets. Would order that again. The menu didn't explain what came with the veal brains entree but the waitress kindly explained the dish. As it is isn't a common dish, we ordered that and were pleasantly surprised. Beautiful presentation and it was served with a beet horseradish sauce and grilled veggies. The grilled pork tenderloin was tender and came with a side of bigos. The inside was nicely decorated with old photos. Some very interesting dishes on the menu; we'll be back again.

Delicious specialties, especially the perogies. The ambiance is typical, the cooking is authentic. Recommended for experience.

    golubtsy/stuffed cabbage

I stopped in a few weeks ago really excited to try this restaurant out (after seeing great reviews) However, I left feeling a little disappointed. We ordered the yushka soup, pierogi & stuffed cabbage (golubtsy). The soup wasn't really worth the price. To me it was extremely bland. The stuffed cabbage was also ok. Pierogies weren't memorable either. The pierogis and stuffed cabbage were presented very nicely.Perhaps I ordered the wrong items off of the menu. The inside atmosphere is welcoming and the staff friendly. I just didn't order anything I would recommend like the other reviewers. I could get some better tasting stuffed cabbage at the local markets in the area and pay much less.

Amazing- the fish plate was to die for!! Authentic and wonderful and nice to have somewhere outside east village!

Had an overwhelming experience at the Golden Boar Restaurant in Huntingdon Valley. All the food was well prepare, and served.

Good for an adventurous date night.or a family get together. Superb food. I never had Ukrainian food and was shocked how good it is. The food is sublime (at least what I had was). The food quality is way better than what you will pay, Expect for appetizer and entree to run about $18 to $25 per person if you are sharing the appetizers. The flavor profiles pair well with beer or lighter wines like dry blushes, riojas, pinotages or a serious chardonnays. Fortunately there is a liquor store in the same parking lot for wine and a Weiss' Market that sells beer and wine as well next door. The exterior hides the quaint village atmosphere inside. Yes, you want to open that door! Yes, you have to go inside! The ambiance is soft with classic Ukrainian music playing in the background. Definitely a good spot for a light hearted date night, when you are actually interested into talking to your date. This is a mom and pop establishment so the service was done by one waitress and the hostess and they handled about 20 customers across 4 tables well. The restaurant was 1/4 full. Two of the tables were large family parties and the feel was very calm and friendly. All customers appeared happy and enjoying a place where they can talk to each other. There were three owner operators off to side keeping an eye on things, but the two servers had everything under control. The decor was much nicer than most restaurants. Very European village vibe. Highly recommended. I expect to go back often and march through their menu entree by entree calibrating up various beers and wines to match the cuisine

It's got these warm and cozy vibes. I originally wanted the cabbage rolls but they ran out (it was a Sunday at around 2 PM) so I ordered the Ukranian Varenyky (dumplings with farmer cheese, potato, and dill), and some kind of a beef stew. The dumplings were very good. All the ingredients tasted fresh. The beef in the stew was super dry and chewy. Maybe I didn't order the right entrée but the waitress did recommend this dish after I learned the cabbage rolls were out. Even so, I'd still come back to try some other dishes if I'm ever in this neighborhood again.

The fish was so fresh and umami, and it was so pleasing to have a bite of cold fish and hot potato at the same time - kefir soup: I forgot the name but this turned out to be an interesting *cold* soup with a cultured kefir yogurt base with potato and cucumber. While I was originally hoping for a hot soup this ended up being so flavorful and hearty I loved it! - bacon potato dumplings with sour cream. No notes, how could you do this wrong? They also had the coolest leather utensil holders I've ever seen! Logistics: - indoor seating and I think a few outdoor seats - limited street parking nearby but there are some lots a few blocks over

Once stepping into the store, you are met with large freezers and fridges stuffed to the brim with all things Ukrainian. Many of their dumpling items are in large packages (2-3lbs a pack) and range from $8-$15 per lb depending on the filling. $15 a pound for their lamb and short rib Pierogis. Price-wise, it's very fair! And you can taste to quality and heart they put into these Pierogis. Can't go wrong with any flavor. I got the lamb and it was stuffed with tender lamb pieces, no filler. And they make for great quick meals! I also snagged a box of cabbage rolls stuffed with a pork and rice filling. Simple home-y flavor and better than rolls I've gotten from restaurants. Just reheat and it's ready to go! $15 for 5 large cabbage rolls was a great deal as well! Would get again. The only thing I wouldn't get again is their soup dumplings, as it was a bit difficult to cook and was a little too doughy near the top of the dumpling. Flavor wise, it was delicious and had a nice broth (assuming you didn't pop them. Only 1 didn't pop). But it was a difficult item to cook right in boiling water, like the instructions mention. Perhaps, user error. Every item is sold by weight and labeled after selecting your items. But they're happy to check the weight/explain price before purchasing.

I had a cup of borscht and an order of dumplings, which were both great. The borscht was something I will crave for a while. The broth just had an incredible, balanced flavor. I thought since my food was pretty warm up and serve, that it would be a quick meal, but the service was pretty slow. I sat and waited a while. It was Mother's Day, so I think they were busier than usual with catering orders and moms and grandmas stopping by for desserts for brunch at home. So the pace of service may have been affected/out of ordinary for that reason. For those visiting for the first time: Take a look at the menu upstairs on the sidewalk before going down to the restaurant, because there was only menu downstairs at the counter where you order, so anyone coming for the first time will have to flip through the menu while holding up the line to order unless they know what they want already. When you go downstairs, the restaurant is behind the first door to your left; it's not well-marked. A lot of reviews say it's cash-only, but that may have been under the prior owners/management, because they definitely took credit cards/Apple Pay when I was there last weekend. If you love Ukrainian food, Streecha is well worth a visit. I love its no frills, classic approach to dining. It's a great option for a casual lunch if you're in the area and are craving some Eastern European fare.
