When I first met him a decade ago, I had already worked with five other orthodontists who were all unsuccessful as managing the chronic bleeding, swelling and aggravation of my entire section of gums in the top six front teeth. Within 9 months, not only did I have a whole new look that I never even imagined was possible but most importantly - my gums have not any swelling or bleeding in 10 years. Quite simply amazing. Scott H. found Dr. Huh at Silverstein & Vinciguerra, I followed him (the dentist, not the boy) to Advanced Dental Cosmetics, and just this past Monday, at 8 a.m., no less, we (the boy and I) arrived at the final destination: the office of Dr. Shin Huh at Shin Huh, DMD, PC, behind a door emblazoned with his name (Shin Huh, DMD, PC, if you aren't following for some reason), which was far more exciting than it should be for us as people who are neither dentists nor named "Shin Huh." Okay, so, we're both obsessed. Dr. Huh is brilliant, kind, patient, and handles intricate dental work using extremely sharp/pointy/generally scary tools with a graceful dexterity I imagine might only be surpassed by his fabled wife. (His wife is real, but is the legend that she professionally cleans her own teeth true? We may never know.) Dr. Huh excels in his bedside manner as well. He will keep you informed and prepared for each step of your procedure, while intentionally distracting you just enough with a curated playlist and light conversation to allow himself and his team to work swiftly and purposefully over, around, and inside your very open mouth. If you have questions, Dr. Huh will explain anything and everything you ask him to, and you'll understand it! Just don't get overconfident and start practicing unlicensed dentistry on your friends, kids. From tooth health to insurance coverage to what's going on in your life outside the dentist chair, to permitting as many spit/rinse breaks as your little heart desires, Dr. Huh genuinely cares about each of his patients. Dentists often get a bad rap for being too drill-happy, but Dr. Huh's primary concern is your health and well-being - which he'll tell you doesn't always require a drill. 7 years after my first visit, we are still "watching" 2 baby cavities that seem to have learned their place. Since my first appointment with Dr. Huh in 2014, I've had 15 cleanings, 5 fillings, 2 extractions, 1 implant, 1 crown, 1 kosher gummy bear emergency, an unknown number of X-rays (I'm probably fine...?), and unending gratitude for the exceptional dentist and wonderful human Dr. Huh has turned out to be. I look forward to every dental visit and I also have a favorite floss now, which are not things I ever thought I'd say. So, yeah, you should probably schedule an appointment.
