We've known Manny since 2016 before he had his own business. I had California Closets install a closet for us in our master bedroom. I needed to have them come back out to add an item and in conversation with the gentleman that came out that I needed other little things done in our house and he suggested Manny and that was a beginning of a long working relationship and friendship. A kitchen make-over was no more in my retirement plan than a vacation in Greenland. Then the 1960's kitchen drain pipes burst and that vacation to Greenland would have to be postponed. In addition to breaking some floor tile and cutting open sections of drywall, the work exposed the extent of under-sink water damage and bad electrical wiring. We now saw that 1970's kitchen in a new light. Cabinet color too dark, laminate lifting on mismatch countertops, useless dishwasher and rarely used oven making poor substitutes for proper kitchen storage space. We pulled out the dishwasher, put it out on the curb, and went on a shopping spree. No plans. We contracted for beautiful stone countertops, over sink and peninsula. Purchased an elegant kitchen sink complete with fixtures, quiet waste disposal with air switch, and a cook-top (no useless oven). Then reality set in. I'm no cabinet maker and IKEA, bless their hearts, just wouldn't cut. I'm years short of a general contractor's license to boot. Manny and Gold Seal Cabinetry were one of several that appeared to fit our needs. In making the selection I visited his shop. It was small but clean, well organized, and humming. Manny was not there. He and his crew were at a jobsite. Busy. Good sign. He returned my call and we set up an appointment and that's when the stress of it all went away and the exchange of wish list for ideas, recommendations, and coordination with countertop, tile and electrical came together. Gold Seal custom built a pair of deep double-drawer pull-out cabinets to fill the voids left by the dishwasher and slide-in stove, prepped and lacquer painted the cabinets, with the doors and drawers removed to the shop. New hardware was assembled on all. Gold Seal's work didn't stop at the cabinets. They patched drywall, prepped, and painted the kitchen walls, even extending the paint work to the end of one wall in the dining area so that there would be no break in color. Manny provided a tile man who replaced tiles from the plumbing job and removal of the slide-in stove, and who did excellent work on the backsplash behind the sink, and matching section for the peninsula. WOW! Manny gave new life to our old but still solid cabinets and helped transform our kitchen. He was key in making coordination between, counter-top, electrical, and tile seamless, always positive and lots of energy. That's going above and beyond cabinetmaker. You move into an old house - the 1st level was built in the 40s, the second built in the 80s & rebuilt after fires, & 3rd level was built relatively recently. Now assume that all of the owners had no idea how to create a cohesive design - much less do things like, you know, ground outlets & stuff. Who needs a GFCI in the kitchen. Or a pantry. I digress. Let's continue the "hypothetical" & assume you have some immediate plans... get a workshop functioning as an office, finish bathroom cabinets that were left 3/4 complete, & build some cabinets around the laundry room. You're moving from a tract home with double pantries, and the "new/old" house doesn't have basic storage. (Major first world problems, I know). The third owner had the presence of mind to at least install some basic closets which are ... functional I guess. You go on your favorite review sites, look up companies that do cabinetry, & send inquiries. One of them writes back in about.. 20 seconds... Interesting. At midnight. Even more awesome for another night owl. You get several gentlemen out... I believe all were the owners of the businesses. They all seem relatively competent. But..you start to ask some slightly harder questions... Where would you put a pantry? How would you use this 14" coat closet to improve the kitchen? Can you match the existing bathroom cabinets in the exact color, counter & style the previous owner used, but refuses to provide info about? And what the heck would you do with a slab that's about 36"x36"x24" in your new office space that's holding up the first 2 floors (so you can't exactly remove it lol), while adding usable function to the design? All had an answer, but most said "I can do that" & suggested I look at photos to see what I like. *I know what I like, but if I knew how to solve the problem I wouldn't need them to begin with!* In walks Manny, the owner & designer of Gold Seal Cabinetry. He pauses before he answers, & his answers are based on logic, reason & knowledge. His calm demeanor, in spite of your "rapid-fire-craziness working-from-home-in-a-construction-zone" mode somehow leaves you less anxious than before he walked into the room, even with projects looming. Curious. You mention the closet & the lack of space & request he add rods, which he's happy to do- but recommends a gut job based on your description of what items are incoming. You decide to do the office & laundry room, & 2 weeks before the move, decide the closet overhaul would be a good idea too. You ID the drop dead date for installation of 2 awesome new closets, which are delivered with precision & exactly on time. (The very next day as scheduled, garments were making their way up). Then - the rest of the work. Matching cabinets, handled expertly, even when issues (inherent to the project, not through any fault of the team) arose. Done & beautiful. The tiny coat closet becomes a small pantry, & downstairs closets become the 2nd, 3rd and 4th storage units. Done, with recommendations ("you can't put deep shelves at the top or you can't reach up there"- duh) included. Now comes the office - simple right? For fun, imagine the office is a combination of a parallelogram & trapezoid mess, up against a crawlspace. Add mildew remediation to lighting with office equipment running, and last minute design changes by the OCD client (whoops, forgot about that printer) plus. And of course, fantastic suggestions by Manny that I couldn't help but incorporate. Rather than suggesting an easier plan B, Manny took the cluster as a challenge & never suggested a shortcut. He is exactly as brilliant as I had initially felt he would be - that's what you get when you work with this company & his team. Not to mention high quality work with a high quality person. Manny has tremendous carpentry capability (I am convinced he's an electrician & magician too), and created a ceiling in a very low 6'-ish height space that looks incredible, expertly stained to match your new flooring. You're impatient by nature, & Manny reminds you of the outcome & best possible design for just a couple of added days work. "It's a process" you hear. You realize you're starting to repeat that to your own employees when they get impatient! Gr! The install takes days with the new (much improved design) because of *attention to detail*! Yes, in 2019, attention to detail. One that even works well with an OCD client. I've never seen someone with such work ethic, integrity (trusted him from the moment I met him), humility, kindness and sense of responsibility in someone I've worked with. The bonus? Competence. When we finish 2 added pieces (wine cabinet & media center under a fireplace), I'll be genuinely bummed not to have further work projects until I think of something else to do at 3am. Manny and his crew were great! He had an initial visit to take measurements, sent us a drawing, we went to his office so we could pick materials and got to see his shop where they make everything. We changed some of the design and he worked with us every step of the way. He is very busy, but worked with our equally busy schedule. He matched our mantle to a picture that my husband had and stained it to match our floor. I'm not sure on pricing because I only got a quote from him, but it was well worth the cost. I wanted to add a more efficient storage for my daughter's small bedroom. I first contacted a contractor and one of the "Closet" companies. Contractor was outrageous in price, and he didn't even come out to see anything. He just quoted by email. The closet co. salesperson spent TWO HOURS here and then tried to talk me into things like gaps between ceiling and storage unit because it will make the "room look bigger." Ridiculous.
