Baby Back Rib & Shrimp Combo
    Jack G.

Went with my papa cause he passed it on the way home from church and said it's always packed and smells so good! It ended up being really good and had some really solid ribs. I had the shrimp and rib combo and both did not disappoint, but I will say being from Texas I have had better. The bbq beans were also a hit, but the Mac and cheese was very average at best. I asked what style bbq it was and the waitress didn't have an answer, but it was definitely Carolina style and had a mustard based bbq sauce. The cornbread was also very tasty and moist. We will definitely be back, but I am still searching for the best bbq in the area.

Excellent good old fashioned BBQ, super friendly staff and great decor for a classic divey experience.

Always busy, with good service, and excellent food. This is still a must-stop for me whenever I'm visiting grandma. She still likes to go with me there at 102. We love the ribs and fried green tomatoes. I always get the rib and shrimp combo because I love the grilled shrimp too! Love the cornbread, mashers, and baked beans and my grandma absolutely LOVES the green beans. Cool place!

We accidentally found this place a couple years ago. And I have not been able to stop thinking about it since then. We tried dining in tonight, and we were not disappointed. Tonight was all you can eat baby back ribs and $1.49 beers! The ribs were tender and delicious! It paired well with the Land Shark beer. What was even more amazing than the food was the service! The service was impeccable from the greeting until we walked out! Oh yeah, did I mention how delicious the corn bread casserole is? Soooo good!!!

We stopped by Gold Rush BBQ specifically for their chicken wings, and they did not disappoint. They were fried to perfection, crispy, juicy, and surprisingly well done, just how we like them. We usually have to make that request, but this time we didn't, and they still came out just right. We tried the Cajun dry rub and one of their classic BBQ flavors. The Cajun wasn't as spicy as we hoped, but still had good flavor. The BBQ was tangy, smoky, and delicious. It's a nice, casual spot to dine in if you're craving solid wings and BBQ while in the Venice area.

I was really pretty disappointed in this place considering I had this craving for great Smoky barbecue. Unfortunately, it was anything but. It's pretty worn out and tired on the inside. There is a large menu with plenty to choose from, but unfortunately, I don't believe that they actually have a smoker on site or anything of the sort since the brisket and ribs were lacking that great smoky flavor that I really wanted. The cornbread was dry and disappointing. However, the person I was with ordered shrimp with their ribs and said they were pretty good for what it's worth. The Redskin mashed potatoes were, however, over the top and really great. The beer selection was lacking as well. I guess during the regular season this place packs them in, but I don't think I'll be returning. If you're just looking for a place to sit and have something that might resemble barbecued food, but lacking in smoky flavor this could be your place. One bright side was our server was great and the rest of the service was really fabulous as well. I would've given Fivestars to service but unfortunately, I'm reviewing based on food, atmosphere and service --so only one of the three would've gotten five stars.

The ambiance was very country'ish. With a country theme decor. Service was pleasant and very attentive. We had a party of 11 and everyone's orders came out promptly and accurately. The food was tasty as well. We'd come back for another round of good food.

AWESOME ... Dominick is amazing. Very knowledgeable and helpful .. had the ribs and they were the bomb! Also had the pork tenderloin sandwich was amazing delicious. Great service. Great people. Shame on me for eating everything and failing to take pictures. Lol.

When they say ice cold beer - they mean it!!

Great place for ribs!!! We came in Thursday and it was an All You Can Eat St Louis Spare Rib night!! They have terrific sides and you get 2 with your meal. They have a select draft beer list and the beer is served super ice cold in a frosted mug. The decor is as though you are in an open campsite with fire (fake of course) at the top of the center of the dining room. Our server Erik V (Be sure to ask for him) was outstanding and super attentive. If you are hungry this is the place to satisfy your appetite. When in Venice make it a point to stop in.

I'm really sure. It's supposed to be smoked turkey but it tastes like fabricated composted meat of some sort ~ not Smoked Turkey Sandwich

Both brisket and baby back ribs were pretty dry. Catfish was good. Fries pretty bland. Sides were good but disappointed in actual BBQ.

Texas bbq has always been at the top of my list after traveling and working in Texas for decades and experiencing what I think is some of the best on the planet. I admit my expectations were pretty high long before I walked through the door here - just from the exterior and interior ambiance I immediately knew these people are serious bbq people and some of the friendliest you'll ever meet. In my opinion eating bbq should be an experience yes the meat preparations are of the utmost most importances but the sides, and desserts also have to be on point as well and of course fresh brewed tea. I wanted to try it all which is not reasonable so I read the menu, scanned the daily specials board(s) and also considered the recommendations by our wonderful server. We enjoyed some great sandwiches and sides and couldn't of had a better lunch during our drive through southwest Florida. Chopped Brisket Sandwich - the bun was fresh and toasted perfectly so it held up to the sauce that I drenched on the beautifully smoked meat, the lean to fat ratio was absolutely perfect and the smoked flavors came through making this one of the best bbq sandwiches I've eaten in a very long time. Pulled Pork Sandwich - the perfectly smoked pork was piled high and very lean, this is a big and delicious work of art. We ordered the sauce on the side so we could control the portion and it worked out great. Pinto Beans - these beans are cooked down until they melted into the smooth and creamy broth that was filled with onions and jalapeño peppers - these are a must try especially if you top them with some fresh raw onion and a few dashes of the Tabasco Pepper Vinegar table side the only thing I regret is that I didn't get a quart of these to take back to the campground. Fried Okra - Crispy deliciousness a southern delicacy served with ranch dressing, this combination is never a disappointment when done right and they do the okra right here. It was nice to get pickles and raw onions on the side, in my opinion if a bbq joint misses this step they don't understand what a bbq experience should be. We really enjoyed our meals here and appreciated the hospitality from the staff, great food, great service all at a reasonable price is always a winning combination, this is definitely a place I hope to return to soon...

We ordered at the counter and everyone we interacted with was friendly despite them being busy. As far as the food-- my husband got shrimp tacos with homemade chips and I got fried catfish with beans, potato salad, and Texas toast. My husband said the tacos were good but he wished there was some more boom boom sauce. I tried his chips and I thought they were good, but needed a little salt. They have salt and pepper + sauces in a certain area so that is an easy fix. My fish was delicious. I'm from the south and I thought there was no way the fish would be comparable. However, the breading was perfect and it definitely had just come out of the fryer. They gave you a lemon to squeeze on top which I also appreciated. The potato salad was absolutely delicious 10/10. The beans were good, but they are sweet (more like brown sugar baked beans). I like my baked beans more savory. My husband loved them though. Texas toast was buttery, but definitely had been sitting under a heat lamp. I didn't care-- still thought it was good. The fact that the food is good and fast once you order is pretty miraculous considering how busy they were.

It's situated off a winding river in Venice that I think connects to the Ocean. We went on Sunday and it was PACKED! Wow! The bluegrass band was great and people were seated at tables, and their own lawn chairs so obviously they came prepared. The people working the place were very nice and they have a good well oiled system as far as ordering and your order coming out. Now the food was not cheap, but it was some great BBQ. We got the shredded pork and the Texas Brisket and my dad said the brisket was some of the best he has ever had. They have pitchers of cold beer with the frozen metal cubes in the center. And even though it was a hot day, we thoroughly enjoyed our food and drink. Not to mention the river that is located right next to the venue. It was great scenery to sit and be around the water even though it wasn't the ocean. I hope you all know how great this place is and get to try it before it goes away. I think countdown is 60 days.
