The staff were incredibly helpful and hard-working. Unfortunately, the room had a mouse problem, and because the room was small, it made for a very uncomfortable experience. I reported the problem to staff, and I hope this word gets to management. Please do better Gold Pan. I will not be going back. Call rodent control for permanent solutions. Traveling through Quincy on a 1300 mile motorcycle ride, we decided to rest for the night and stayat the Gold Pan Lodge. The lodge was very dated but was quiet and for the most part clean. After walking into town for a bite to eat and drink, we returned to our room for a nice hot shower and a good nights rest before we hit the rode the next day. After turning on the hot water in the shower, the water turned brown. I took off the shower head and the water continued to be brown with what looked like brown rust and sediment all over the tub. We phoned the front desk and their response was that I could walk across the street and shower in one of their spare rooms and return to mine. I advised Angela in the office that since it was past 10 pm, that I would take a cold shower and settle with the manager in the morning. The next morning at approximately 7:45am I arrived at the front office to speak to the manager "Janet" and was told that she was running late by the housekeeper who was watching the desk. We waited until 8:30 before we decided to leave and get back on the road. The manager had stated through a text to the "housekeeper" that if we had such a problem with our room that we could have just left and found another room. This statement clearly proved that the Gold Pan Lodge and their manager Janet has no interest in customer service. We were in no way asking for a full refund, just make it right for us for not having hot water. Note: when I use the word we, this means that my friend had a room next to mine and had the exact same problem. Please keep this incident in mind when thinking about this location to stay in Quincy California. read more

We will stay here again. This was a great place to sleep while we did other things. This was not a resort it was a clean room with nice staff. Our room was on the ground floor and easy to access. The town of Quincy is walking distance. Morning Thunder cafe threw down a more than decent breakfast for the family so we started our days with some good joe and full bellies. read more

So I'd like to start off by saying the staff is very friendly here and they have an awesome collection of dvds available to borrow but the actual property is not good for the price. The room I stayed in smelled really musty like stale cigarettes. No amount of Victoria's Secret Bombshell perfume could mask it. The room used to contain a jacuzzi tub from the looks of it. There is still a hole in the floor where pipes must have gone. They just stuck an old chair on top of the floor and left the old mirror behind the chair as well. The sheets were stained and the place just didn't smell or feel clean. This place would be fine for $50 but for $100 a night it's just a terrible deal. It is very conveniently located at the edge of Quincy CA and the staff are all wonderful. The non-smoking rooms I was offered smelled strongly of cigarettes and marijuana. The room I ended up in had a comfortable bed with many blankets (see below). The water pressure to the shower was little more than a dribble and the hot water heater couldn't get above tepid. The carpet needed to be vacuumed and The weather stripping around and under the door had some serious gaps (this was winter and the temperature drops well below freezing at night and is rarely above 40 during the day) and I woke up being able to see my breath in the morning. The breakfast was adequate. For over $100/night, I expect (at least a little) better. read more

This is an older motel in a small town. Those who complain that it's not the Ritz are expecting something that this location could not provide. I found the place clean, the bed more comfortable than many I've paid much more for, AND the people, who went out of their way to return my boot which I had left behind, friendly and helpful. This place is horrible. The bed is like sleeping on a rock, the carpet needs to be re-stretched, it has waves in it. there is so much furniture in the room you can barely get around, there in no room in the bathroom to put your things. The room smells, the carpet is filthy, the shower leaks all over the floor. For what they charge it should be a heck of a not nicer than it is. I don't know if all the beds are like the one in the room we had, but it is awful. You could see daylight around the bottom of the door. Anyone giving this place good ratings are probably employees. When I got home and told my neighbor she said they had the same experience there about 10 years ago!!!!!!!!!! The office is beyond cluttered and dirty looking. read more

Despite the previous review, I beg to differ! We stayed here June 2012 with a group of about 80+ motorcyclists and were extremely happy to hear we had reservations with this place instead of the motel directly across the street . . . I mean no disrespect to the town of Quincy but this is as good as it gets for being out in the middle of nowhere and I was prepared for that... The lobby was clean and friendly staff. The room was a lil bit out-dated but clean & comfortable, it served its purpose! I didn't see pink curtains... Some of the people in our group had to stay at the motel across the street which was going through a renovation and were ill-prepared for guests; rooms were not ready at 4pm, missing beds, no towels, etc.. ??? A few guests ran to the Gold Pan Lodge to try and grab the last available rooms, YES, that's how bad it was at the other place! We're making plans for this June, hopefully we can enjoy the Quincy hospitality again! read more

We stayed at the Gold Pan Lodge on our recent trip to Quincy. The Ritz it ain't, but it deserves better than the one- and two-star reviews it's received. VVSP and I travel a lot, and we stay in small towns often. The Gold Pan is exactly what we expected. Our room was perfectly clean, and the room was a nice size. Our one issue was that the mattresses sat on a massive wooden platform bed frame that had a lip which stuck out about 5" on each side of the bed. We each ended up with barked shins from inattentive walking. Other than that, it provided us a comfortable, safe and quiet night's sleep. We noticed in the lobby a list that seemed to indicate that the Gold Pan has contracted with one or the railroad lines to house its employees while working in the area. If it's good enough for Burlington Northern, I guess it's good enough for us! read more

I realize that renovations happen in stages, but why is there a pink shower curtain older than me, and a flat screen TV in the same room???? UGH. The floor looked so gross that I am happy i brought some house shoes with me. I don't want my bare feet on the floor. The staff is nice enough. There was no AAA discount. I did not have a reservation, and I ended up paying around $100 for a jacuzzi room. Ummm, yeah. They mean an old ass jacuzzi tub. Bottom line - It was better than sleeping in my car. And the wireless is working...it's slow, but it works. They also have a huge DVD lending library and a Continental breakfast. There was a dorm size fridge and microwave too, but considering how dirty the rest of the place looked, i was too scared to try them. read more

1 star because I can't put zero stars and it rooms have beds. Our room smelled like old musty towels and it was so dusty my allergies were acting up really bad! I had to go to RiteAid to buy disinfectant wipes and air freshener to clean the dusty room. Thank goodness we only have one more night.... read more

First time visiting Quincy. We drove in a little later than we planned and decided to stay the night. This place was just what we were looking for. A mini fridge, coffee maker and breakfast. Check in was very pleasant the gentleman helping us was very informative about the rooms and the area. There were a few issues during our stay and Janice was very helpful in resolving the situation. We definatly will be back. Next time im trying that Jacuzzi room. read more

We were evacuated from our home like many others in our small town due to a wildfire and had an excellent experience staying at the Gold Pan, so not sure why it has only 2 1/2 stars. The room was clean and the house keeping checked on us every morning to see if we needed anything. The front staff was extremely friendly and went above and beyond to keep us in the same room the 3 nights we were there. They even went as far as to jump my moms car after she left her lights on over night. Highly recommend! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! We stayed in the spa room, and the smell of mold was so bad, we had to run to the store to buy some air freshener candles. Once we tried to use the spa, we found out that the jets did not work so actually all we had was a big tub full of water. We called in the front desk, and they actually told us that we made a mistake staying there. They did refund $26.00 of the room, but when we checked out the desk person told us he was surprised the room was rented out as it hadn't been for quite a while. And mentioned a broken pipe issue they had recently. When we were packing up, I noticed snail slime on the floor near the bed. I am so creeped out knowing we slept in that bed! First thing when I got home was to pull my clothes out of my suitcase and wash them as they continued to smell like mold. We slept with the window open and it was 36° outside. read more

I just had a wonderful stay at the Gold Pan Lodge. I am a traveling musician and stay in about 50 hotels a year, and can honestly say I had my most comfortable, best time at the Gold Pan. I was performing at High Sierra Music Festival and stayed with my wife. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Also very flexible, we thought the checkout was 12, but it was really 11. They called at 11 and we were not ready to leave, they were very easy going and flexible and allowed us until 11:30 without any bad vibes. And the most important thing--my wife left her new shoes at the hotel. We realized this about 3 days later, and called. Not only did they still have the shoes, they offered to send them to us ASAP. If I could give this zero stars I would. Probably one of the worst places I've ever stayed. The rooms are dirty, everything is old and broken, and the staff are horrible. The rooms smell of BO and chemicals. It's pretty much a text book case of how not to run a motel. Theres literally nothing good about this place. Stay at the one across the street , or one of the several other motels in Quincy, but don't stay here. Would rather sleep in my truck. read more

My husband and I stayed in the Gold Pan for a week, the weather one minute scorching hot and the next raining and VERY loud thunder and lightning, it was delightful, but not as delightful as were the people and staff of the motel, if we had a request or question it was answered or dealt with immediately. The little porch had an amazing view and although the motel was fully booked it was quiet and peaceful. The continental breakfast and coffee were appreciated as well as those cookies....yummo, thank you, see you later, we will be back to bug you. P.S.I as a general rule "clean" any motel room we stay at (no reflection on the housekeeping staff)so I can attest to a clean room or just a fast once over before we get there, and our room was very clean. read more

This place is the worst. The town was packed and I had little choice but to stay here. Door was broken with holes in the walls. Room was filthy and stunk. The smoke alarm kept beeping and the folks they sent down could not figure out how to fix it. They were full and couldn't move me, so I ended up taking it apart and burying it under a pillow in the bathroom. Also, I am fairly certain I contracted HEP C. read more

I don't expect much from a $69 room, but I do expect a clean room. The shower and floor were covered in dirt and wood shavings and the bathroom trash was not empty. I stayed here for two days while attending my sons All-Star baseball tournament in Quincy. I did not expect much because it was a very inexpensive room. What I found was way worse! The sheets were not clean, the towels were dirty, the bed, tub and toilet all had black hairs all over them. When I went to the front office and asked if the room was cleaned they said yes. I told them what I found and they just shrugged their shoulders. I would have thrown a fit but the front counter person was a little shady looking. Not very professional to wear a tiny strap tank top with shorty shirts. Unfortunately there was no where else to go! I would never recommend staying here! I stayed here five nights (as a PCT hiker) in three different rooms and found it to be a pretty decent place with friendly, accommodating staff. The rooms were all clean, and the bathrooms had actual bathtubs. Breakfast was basic but appropriate for the price range, I did find some expired yogurts though. If I ever find myself in Quincy again, I'd stay here. read more

This place is disgusting. Avoid at all costs. If you are reading this, and there are no other options in town to sleep, there is hope: YOUR CAR. Trust me, you are better off sleeping in your car. Or outside. A picnic table is likely cleaner. The rooms are dirty, the sheets are dirty, the furniture is outdated, dirty, dusty, the bathrooms are disgusting. Pubes and piss all over the toilet. Mildew in the shower. There is absolute no signs of a cleaning staff. They probably just open the door, see if anyone shit the bed, and if not, tuck the bed in and call it ready for the next sucker to check in. I do not understand why these establishments refuse to get their act together. I suppose it's easier to make excuses and just bank on people not utilizing their resources such as Yelp to do their research and go elsewhere. The only reason I stayed here was because the room was already booked on my behalf for work... Otherwise I'd be elsewhere. Thank god we only stayed one night. Trust me, AVOID. I am *very* sorry if you have to stay here for whatever reason. I slept in socks, jeans, and long sleeves to hopefully avoid bedbugs. Gross. read more

Do not stay here! They are infested with bed bugs. My husband and his brother stayed there for the week and came home covered from head to toe with welts from bites. They took pictures of the bugs and the employees refused to believe it. They said that they must have left the door open to let mosquitoes in. My family and I were on a road trip over the Memorial Day long weekend May 25, 2013. We stopped at the first Lodge we saw and it was Gold Pan Lodge. Unfortunately, to our surprise the room was very dirty and had a horrific pungent odor. My adult daughter and granddaughter experienced some sort of bites and when I reported it to the office clerk, not anything was done about the complaint or incident. After a very stressful few months I was treated to a visit to Quincy by my aunt to visit my familys homestead, after a 2 day drive which included the last 30 miles thru a severe storm we arrived at this place in 41 degree weather to get a room. because of no reservation we were charged over 100. The air conditioner was running full blast and the room was about 35 degrees, we were so exhausted we just wanted to sleep but when we turned on the heater it set off the fire alarm and filled the room with a nauseous Oder. we notified the front desk and asked for another room only to be told there were no rooms available. We offered to keep the room if we could have extra blankets and a considerable discount. Imagine our surprise when the manager could talk by phone to the receptionist by couldn't be bothered to speak with us and would only give a 10. discount, The room was not real clean but being disabled we needed rest. We requested she speak with us but she refused. after several requests JANICE ?????????? stood firm on the 10.00. and we requested a refund, Leaving town and will NEVER return to this establishment. JANICE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT NOT EMPLOYEES who only follow her leadership. read more
