2020 and I am buying myself a new home! Thus my need to drive from Charlotte to Hickory to see the IRS. "Why not visit them in-person in Charlotte?" you ask. Good question -- because the wait for an in-person visit with the IRS in the Queen City is much like the wait for customer service in the Beetlejuice version of the Afterlife. AND . . . because then I wouldn't have occasion to have breakfast at the Gold Mine in Hickory. This place is delightful. The dining room is scrupulously clean, the waitstaff is friendly, and the food hot, delicious, and very affordable. I ordered a usual pair of eggs, over-easy, along with some bacon and toast and gravy. In no time flat these arrived at my corner table where I washed them down with coffee (dark roast in my cup) and some water. From the looks of the menu, the Gold Mine Cafe is also a good place for lunch with burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and a nice selection of plate-lunches and daily features to keep the regulars coming back for more. It also seems they have some rather tasty looking homemade cakes available for your sweet tooth. If you find yourself in Hickory looking for a great breakfast spot, check out the Gold Mine Cafe. They're open from 6am until 2pm and Friday until 8pm. So when the IRS is through with you, drop in to spend what remains of your money after taxes. Even if you have just a little bit left, you'll do just fine enjoying the tasty offerings here.

Outrageous prices!!! Food is terrible on top of that. Wait staff was okay and restaurant was clean just too high on pricing.

The cheeseburger and potato slices are one of my favorites. So delicious and the staff are friendly.

Food is mediocre at best! Poorly managed (as evidenced by the frequent change in staff)! Friday night menu is limited and horrible!

Couple opportunities this round, red beets in the beet salad were crunchy and waited a bit at the table before waitress came by. She made up for it and rest of the experience was great. My chicken on biscuits with gravy was delicious. Sweet tea always a welcome treat too. This is a regular go to for us and should be yours as well! Good Selling!

My husband and…read moreI are spending a lot of time in Hickory and have an apartment nearby to help with my daughter and son in law's infant twins. After a nice weekend with additional family in town for a special event, I suggested this establishment as I have had many good experiences here in the last 6 months. When we decided on this location, we called ahead and were told no reservations we taken, first come first served. So with the twins and their cousin, we had 3 9-month old babies. Very aware of the complexity of this, we brought hook on chairs and arrived around 5:00. The hostess tried to seat us at a much too small table in the back room, and when we inquired about a larger one, we were told it was "reserved ". . We were seated in a long booth in the bar. The waitress seemed very rushed and upon first visit to table asked if we were ready to order. We were not told of any specials, etc. Good news was that we had decided to be ready and get our full orders in quickly. We ordered an appetizer and cocktails to begin, which came out quickly. My Son in law asked for a fairly plain burger, but wondered if fried onions which were listed on another burger could be added. Waitress said " prob not... but I'll ask". It did not come with the added onions. I asked for my favorite pizza.. she said there's no pizza tonight. While waiting on food, we asked for a couple of orange slices, which we had taken from cocktails to entertain/feed the babies. Waitress said they couldn't do that because the oranges are for the bartender garnishes. I asked for another cocktail with extra oranges and thankfully was given one extra sliver. When our meal was finished, our curt waitress asked if we needed anything else, so we just asked for the check. No suggestion of dessert, etc. We were never visited by the manager to see how all was going... because if so I would have asked if this was establishment policy or simply a rude waitress. We tipped 15%... and let that be it. Note that the babies were fantastic... very little fussing at all. We kept all except the floor cleaned up after them. On our way out... we seemed to be on the waitress's way... she never said anything like have a good night, etc... but shouted "Behind you!" twice on her way to deliver another table's food, and as we were getting out of her way to leave. A disappointing end to a restaurant experience I'd enjoyed before. Note to self... not particularly baby friendly.

They aren't just friendly, they are cool in a professional manner. It looks like they have a late-night vibe with live music too. I didn't hang around for that but there's a back area with another bar, a space for live music, pool tables, and high tops. Oh! And they have outdoor seating at the regular restaurant when the weather is nice. Definitely going to be my go-to spot in Hickory, replacing Kickback Jacks Hickory (still love the Mooresville KBJ though). Hickory Social House is highly recommended!

We went with the four-cheese pizza, which was very good, nice crust and the right balance of gooey, flavorful cheeses. The beer selection was solid too, with a nice variety of local and craft options to choose from. The service was great from a server named Bob. It seemed like a busy night, and the noise level was pretty loud and it was hard to have a conversation without raising my voice, but I guess that's part of the lively vibe they're going for. Overall, it's a fun spot with great food and drinks, but if you're looking for a quiet evening, this might not be the place during peak hours. I'll definitely be back, though and maybe next time I'll try one of their food options or just the pizza again.
