Gold Coast was a breath of fresh air during an extremely stressful situation for my family. We returned home from a trip to find that our fridge filter had left the chat, and our Samsung fridge was now a water feature with a rushing waterfall coming down the front. There was 2" of water throughout our home, and while my son was stoked on his in-home splash pad, my wife and I were less enthusiastic. To make matters worse, I was scheduled for surgery the next morning and was going to be non-weight bearing for 10 weeks. After seeing good reviews we called Gold Coast, and despite it being 9 PM on a Sunday, a friendly crew came out within an hour and had the water mopped up, damage pattern identified for our insurance, and drying equipment set up to stabilize everything while they awaited lead and asbestos testing, and for me to get through my surgery. Although they were not one of my insurance company's "preferred" cronies, they cooperated with my adjuster, coordinated a contents packout company since I could not lift a popsicle stick let alone the entirety of my life's possessions, and handled every aspect of the job professionally and respectfully. They coordinated demolition through an asbestos company (old home), dried out the framing and floors, and walked me through how their itemized invoicing would be paid by me and reimbursed through my insurance (which it was, and was very easy). Kudos to Gold Coast I had noticed a damp spot in the drywall around our microwave in the kitchen. When I pulled back a little bit of that drywall, there was clearly mold present- so I called a plumber for a leak detection visit. They were so polite and professional doing the investigation and work in our home. We had a burst pipe under our tub and they helped us know the timeline of how to investigate and get everything dried out. Initially, USAA denied our claim and stated it was a long-term damage, but Gold Coast did not agree and was very thorough in their documentation showing it was a sudden loss. After many communications (and Joe went out of his way to provide many follow up phone calls and letters to our insurance company), we had a lawyer draft a demand letter, and USAA ended up reversing their decision. Spoke with Kurt Robinson and he fully explained every detail of how the problem of the flooding would be solved. Read the fine print closely. Get other estimates even though your water service is off and the plumber recommended them (Black Mountain Plumbing). They overcharge for labor hours (9 hours when they were at the site 4 hours). Labor charges include preparing the invoice, lounging in their van and using their cell phones. Disposal fee is $185.32 even though all they hauled away was a 3ft by 3ft piece of dry wall. The dehumidifier placed at the property had a badly frayed cord and was a fire hazard (rental fee $165/day). Very disappointed read more

Picture this, its a nice Saturday afternoon and you notice water on the floor where is shouldn't be. Then you inspect a little bit closer and realize you have a major problem. So I did what most people did and googled it, then realized I needed help, asap. So then I get on yelp and find a highly reviewed, 5 star company, that isn't a big "chain" and is local. Great service and great results! We had rain damage around a window in one of our apartments and we gave them a call. There was a fee for the estimate but that got rolled into the service. George went over the process with me and explained everything which was great because I had never had this happen before. They came back today and the dehumidifier had done its job. We had a sewer flood in a townhome we were renting in La Mesa. The entire downstairs of the unit was filled with water from the main sewer line. The property management at the complex was so slow to respond we called Gold Coast to come help us. I talked with the owner Joe and he gave me so much helpful information and was ready have a truck head out with a team within 30 minutes of the incident. The property management finally got back to me and told me I couldn't use them that they wanted to use their contracted company which was Servpro. Bottom line, Servpro didn't show up for NINE hours. Gold Coast was ready to be there within 30 minutes. It was an absolute nightmare and I was so disappointed I couldn't use Gold Coast because I know for a fact they would have taken much better care of the situation. We weren't offered any help with the move out by Servpro so Joe offered his team to help us pack/unpack the moving truck and clean the non-damage furniture. Used them back in August for a mold inspection. They did a good job when they came out. They were on time, listened to me and were thorough when inspecting my residence. I must say I was underwhelmed by their Inspection Report and recommendations to fix my problem. Their proposed remedy would have cost a couple hundred dollar and would not have targeted the source of the mold. That point was proved a week later when I hired a hygienist to come out to my place who had much better recommendations to solve our problem. read more

I'm a heavy Yelp user. When I see a 5-star or 4.5 star rating, I expect to get my socks knocked off. Gold Coast was responsive, thorough and communicative. Overall they seem to be a good outfit for what they do. But there are some things you need to be aware of before hiring them: 1) They only remove flood damage and mold. THEY DON'T DO ANY REPAIRS. They communicated this in their quote and via email to us, but for some stupid reason we still had this expectation that they were solving our problem. 2) You should consider hiring a general contractor. (S)he will coordinate activities between plumbers, electricians, flooring specialists, etc. so you don't have to worry about it and you will pay a check and have your problem solved. Using a general contractor also makes it clear up front what the total cost will be. After Gold Coast was done, we were still left with hiring someone to re-install our hot water heater, do dry wall, and put down tack strips, baseboards and carpet in our closet. Gold Coast maintains that their pricing is competitive. Maybe we're just lucky, but we know a general contractor that would have done all of the demo, drying, and repair work for about $1,500. We paid Gold Coast about $1,300 just for the demo and mold removal. You could argue that you should go with a specialist to make sure all of the mold is removed. That's fine, and it's kind of a personal preference, but there are reasons why you may not want/get the more thorough treatment. For instance, Gold Coast recommended that we remove our furnace for repair work. It would have been an additional $700 and it just didn't seem to matter so we decided not to do it. Gold Coast had us sign a waiver that they could not repair every place that was damaged. So, we hired a specialist, paid the extra money, and still have no guarantee that we won't have a future mold problem. Again, Gold Coast seems like a great company for what they do, and overall are A-OK. read more
