After reading many rave reviews for Maui Dreams, I enrolled in the Rescue Diver class through their…read moreshop. I scheduled the class a few months in advance, and they even advertised it to recruit another student (after all, you can't rescue yourself!). I learned from the best--Kerri is a true expert in both diving and instruction. He is incredibly patient and explains concepts clearly. He took the time to answer all of our questions and really instilled the importance of dive safety--that anything can happen at any time, and you always need to stay aware, especially in and around the water. We practiced multiple real-life rescue scenarios in the water, which made the training feel practical and incredibly valuable. I learned so many important skills from Kerri--both ones I hope I never have to use and others that I will carry with me on every dive going forward. I look forward to diving with Kerri and the Maui Dreams crew the next time I'm on Maui!

She was kind, patient, skilled, and SO knowledgable. Having a local who is an ocean ecologist teach a class was a beautiful experience where we learned Hawaiian words for the animals as well as so many ocean facts. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and would do another cert with Kanani next year :)

I booked this trip specifically because the Lanai Cathedrals page describes both First Cathedral…read moreand Second Cathedral in detail, which reasonably led me to expect dives at both sites. In reality, our group only visited one Cathedral site. The first dive was at a different Lanai location that was not one of the Cathedrals. After the trip, Dive Maui explained that they do not normally conduct dives at both Cathedral sites on the same day and that site selection depends on conditions and the divers onboard. I fully respect the importance of safety and found the crew professional and friendly throughout the trip. My disappointment is with the expectation created by the trip description. Had I known in advance that visiting both Cathedrals was not normally part of the itinerary, I would likely have chosen a different operator. Future divers whose main goal is to see both First Cathedral and Second Cathedral should clarify the expected itinerary before booking and compare the options offered by different Maui dive operators.

Such a unique, wonderful time!! We booked as a private group of 4 for the beginner off-shore diving…read moreexperience, as it was everyone's first time diving. Our instructor Sean was amazing!! Your first scuba experience may feel quite daunting (it was for me!) but your instructor goes over all the equipment, safety measures, and hand signals to know--that you are also required to go over in your online course, so helpful! LEADING UP TO YOUR DIVE: A lot of the prep comes before you even arrive for your dive: the online info courses and waivers (took about 20-35 min) and inputting the height and weight of each diver, so once we were ready to start heading to the beach, Dive Maui quickly got us into our wet suits, and later quickly had us fit for our masks, oxygen tanks, and weights for the vest. The indoor area where they go over the info and where you put on your wet suits also have a bathroom you can use before and after which was helpful to have a place to change afterwards. They don't have lockers or a designated place to leave your stuff, but it did kind of feel safe if you're just leaving a bag of clothes or shoes when you dive; overall, I'd recommend coming with less stuff though unless you have someone to hold your things. THE EXPERIENCE: 10/10 but that is just speaking for me LOL we got to see so much wildlife in their space: so many different kinds of fish, schools of fish cleaning off turtles (we saw around 10 turtles!), we caught to briefly look at 2 sharks chilling on the ocean floor, and saw a flounder fish in the sand. At one point, I was swimming alongside a turtle!! We had someone in our group who was not as strong a swimmer and was more nervous with all the gear so they had a harder time enjoying the experience, but our instructor was really good and intentional with making sure they were okay and walked with them slower through the experience. Otherwise, we overall really enjoyed the experience and have no regrets! It definitely feels like you get to see more of Maui's wildlife beauty in its natural place, as opposed to the more touristy, marketed Hawaii. They recommend all divers be a strong swimmer, to expand on this--as long as you are comfortable maneuvering yourself in the water (would you be able to quickly change direction if you notice you're drifting into coral or , able to swim deeper and manage how deep or shallow you stay in the water--no need to be on a swim team--it is not about speed or being able to literally dive LOL IMPORTANT: our booking did not do shallow water training at a pool or at the shore before going down to practice our skills test (how to blow water out of your mask, practicing what to do when our breather comes out of our mouth, clearing our sinuses, checking our oxygen tanks and responding to our instructor with correct hand signals of our oxygen level). So we knew we were going to practice these skills, but it can definitely be scary since you go 20 feet down and then do the skills. Yes, you need to be a decent swimmer, but I think it's more important you think about if you can stay calm and trust your instructor and the skills they are teaching you--the entire experience of using the gear and being 20-30 feet underwater takes some time to get used to, so make sure you are okay with knowing that you don't get shallow water training and can stay calm and remember to take deep breaths as you get used to breathing through your mouth only and blowing water out when you can't breathe in, rather than panicking. If you are typically able to pick up new skills and can stay calm under pressure, then totally try scuba diving!! Dive Maui will keep you safe! We parked in the nearby lot near the grocery stores. When you register, they give parking suggestions and specify where not to park to make sure you won't get a ticket or get towed parking in private spots. It would be great if they were able to have a photographer or camera to catch a few pics during the experience. Even if they charged for the pictures, that's one I would (and think many people would) pay for! especially since not many people want to bring their phone or have underwater cameras to bring along with them, let alone having to figure out how they want to hold or attach it to their gear with them (not even sure if they allow this)

Huge shoutout to Maui Diving Scuba and Snorkel for going above and beyond!…read more I forgot my PADI dive card at home and have a dive scheduled tomorrow, so I was scrambling trying to pull up my e-card in the app and on the website with no luck. After getting nowhere, I reached out to Maui Diving scuba Shop--and I'm really glad I did. Sam jumped in to help right away. He took the time to track down my certification, worked through the system issues, and even called me back personally to let me know he found it. That level of service is rare these days. Seriously appreciate the extra effort--Sam and the team saved my dive. Highly recommend Maui Diving scuba if you're looking for people who genuinely care and go the extra mile!

If you buy anything from this store, a normal retail purchase, you will be charged an additional…read more4.8% in State Water Activity Tax and Biodiesel Recycling fees.... for a T-Shirt purchase made in cash. This is on top of the normal and legitimate 4.72% GET sales tax. (See the attached receipt) If you pay with a credit card they likely tack on an additional 3% credit card fee as that is also their policy (and they are entitled to do that, as odd as it is for a brick and mortar retail store) Anyway, avoid this shop. In the past, I have spoken with the manager and the owner about cashiers not removing the 3% Credit Card surcharge on cash or debit purchases, and they always assure me that they do not add the charge for cash or debit purchases, but that was never my experience. I always had to ask or have the extra refunded once I realized the "error." Can't even call it an "error" anymore. I avoided using this shop after being annoyed by the above behavior, and was eventually banned largely for bringing up this issue online before, so I did not know if they ever addressed the issue, though I doubted it because they never owned up to doing it. Now, not only did they not address it, they increased the bogus charge and gave bogus reasons for it. I was trying to have my ban undone, but not anymore. They do not deserve a dime of my or anyone else's money. Buyer beware. UPDATE after owner response: You said it was an error and my friend has been refunded. How exactly? They paid cash. Which kind of means you lied about them having been refunded, heh? Also, they want a refund for the whole shirt as they no longer want to wear a logo shirt with your shop's name on it. Can I bring the shirt in for a full refund? Also, after I posted on social media about this, another person said they saw the same charges on a retail purchase in July at the Lahaina Store, so this charge was being added to all retail purchases since July it would seem. Is the store going to go through their receipts and refund everyone that they can the overcharge? They certainly should. And anybody who shopped there should check their receipts.
