We had a friend visiting from the mainland who really wanted to dive and see sea turtles during her trip. We had originally tried booking with another company but due to miscommunication it didn't go through. Luckily, they referred us to Scuba Luv Maui! The hubs and our friend ended up meeting the instructor at Makena Beach Resort. It was the 1st dive for the hubs and the 2nd for my friend. They weren't quite sure what to expect; however, it turned out to be one of the best experiences ever. Their instructor, Steve, gave detailed instructions and really made sure that they felt safe while still having a good time. Steve even snapped a couple of awesome photos underwater for us! Needless to say, after this dive, the hubs is now hooked and can't wait to do another dive! read more

Tim and Di excel at teaching the technical aspects of diving (certification) and at guiding and finding the critters that remain hidden to most of us. I expected certification to be grueling, but they incorporate the skills into "fun" dives, so it hardly felt like work at all. On the four dives I took with them, I saw an octopus, two different kinds of moray eels, turtles, and many, many fish. Tim writes the names of the fish on his underwater pad, so you get a dose of oceanography, along with a fun, safe, relaxing dive. read more

I would give 4.5 if i could! Steve is a great dive instructor. SCUBA luv is very lucky to have him :) Diana was very nice as well. They never "promised" anything different, so this input is based on dealing with other LOCAL shops... My one issue is that there is no store front and no snacks were provided. The dives were completed from a circle of chairs from a beach location. Your gear can/will be locked up in a van. I must be spoiled b/c all other multi-dives I have done on Maui have at least had cookies to keep your energy levels up. PROS: Again, Steve is great. I HIGHLY recommend him if you are a nervous Nelly. He is super chill and thorough. I felt safe EVERY second of my dives. real bathrooms! Yes, you are on the beach, but they will give u the code to the restroom at the building nearby. Food nearby! There is a general store - and as long as u have $$ you can buy food, drinks, and necessities if u need them. Showers nearby! Two different showers very close by. Cons: - no actual store front - gear is in vehicle (i feel like this runs the risk of burglary) - dive site can be murky - no snacks provided - no receipts provided To me, its a very low cost business model (good for them) but there is a little more they could do to meet consumer expectation. I recommend trying them for 1-2 dives to see if they meet your expectations! read more

This is a small operation located right on the beach in Kihei. We traveled with 2 kids and they were perfect for our family. Great interaction, patient with the less experienced divers, and Kevin was an amazing teacher. He has seen the world and his stories are great. He made those of us who were nervous feel very comfortable and helped us to enjoy ourselves. The equipment was well maintained, and the ocean shore entry is easily accomplished. Scuba Luv has been my boyfriend's go to Scuba trip for several years and now it's mine. I did referral dives with Scuba Luv to become PADI open water certified this year and Steve Harmon was great. We did two dives with Scuba Luv Maui. Our first dive we went out with Kev. I was certified two years ago and had a bad experience during my certification dives (multiple types of equipment failure) and haven't been diving really since, so I was all nerves. Kev was supportive, friendly, and funny, and made the dive a breeze, in spite of the fact that visibility happened to be near zero that day. He gamely took us about and showed us what we could see, and once I got under, I again felt at home in the water. We even got to hear a whale song. YAY! We went for a second dive a few days later, hoping for better visibility, and got it. This time we went out with Diana and Steve and used the underwater scooters. My husband and I weren't sure we wanted to - we like the "natural" feeling of scuba, and didn't want to make a lot of noise or disturbance. Turns out the scooters are very quiet and essentially don't make that many more bubbles than your reg! We zoomed about underwater and got to see numerous turtles and fish. It was fabulous. Next time we're in Maui, we'll definitely do a couple more dives with Scuba Luv. Mahalo! read more

Me and my bloke did our first discovery dives with Steve on a quick trip in Maui. Steve! What can I say! Bloody legend. We were both wetting ourselves and Steve's as calm as a otter. He was patient with us and made sure we felt straighty 180 before we went down. And the ocean, what a sight for sore eyes. Those little fishies can swim let me tell ya. Even saw one of them turtles and could hear the whales going at it the whole time. Fair dinkum! See some fellas here complaining about no snacks, bring your own bloody snacks mate. I have been diving for over 20 years and dive on Maui at least a few times a year. Scuba Luv is my go-to dive shop when I am there. Steve and Di are awesome. They go out of their way to make your diving experience fun and safe. I have dove with them several times and each time has been a great dive. I requested to go diving with an Instructor who I really liked ... he took care of me in the water, and I know he was right for me. When I asked them to switch me ... the lady owner was very rude to me ... and refused to accommodate my desires ... I was very dissapointed ... I would never go back to that operation ... read more

My wife and I did our open water certification with Steve(s) over a long weekend in early February. Our plans came together last minute but Di and her team were super accommodating and flexible to fit us in despite our short stay and desire to finish early one afternoon. The Steves were so nice and patient throughout the lessons, providing helpful tips and reassuring us along the way. My fiancé and I went scuba diving with Di and Steve. This is only our second time scuba diving outside of our certification. I am a little scared in the water but Steve made me feel completely comfortable in the water. I started the diving feeling confident and comfortable. Both Steve and Di walked me through what we were going to do. We saw some amazing fish and swam next to a turtle. I couldn't say enough good things about Di and Steve, from the second we met them, to gearing up, to getting into the water, to diving all the way to exiting the water they were top notch!!! Went on a scooter dive today from Mana Kai. Our guide, Steve (not the owner) was super friendly, relaxed, and professional. One frustration was the location of the dive. We went to "South reef" which was literally one five foot square piece of reef and we scooted past everything else. Then we came straight back. Our main frustration is with Di. When I called to set up the dive, Di said that there were two dives available, one was today with two "pretty good" divers, the other was the next day with no one else signed up. Since my husband is a divemaster and we are on vacation, we really weren't looking to dive with beginners, as it requires far more energy and means that the dive will likely be shorter. Despite what Di had told us, they were both brand new. Very nice people, but brand new. The dive ended up being not at all what we'd hoped for. When I called her to give her this feedback, she was incredibly defensive and said that my husband being a DM should know to be nice to slow people. Clearly she wasn't even listening because our time spent waiting for and helping the beginner divers is what made our dive so short and disappointing! If we hadn't been helping them, we would've just scooted along, and they likely would've been left in the dust. I've done dozens of dives on Maui, and this was definitely one of the most disappointing, especially for over $100 per person. I'm definitely sticking with Maui Dreams from now on. read more

Best place to get certified! Pat is a great instructor and sooo patient. Our teenager was certified while visiting Maui. We couldn't have asked for a better instructor. Their prices are a little higher but well worth the extra and it was a private lesson! If you are looking to get certified, go with Scuba Luv Maui! Their scooter dive was fun too. I was on island and had 2 dives with ScubaLuv. If our schedule wasn't so packed, I would have lined up more. I noticed the guides preparing on the beach and made a few inquiries. The company was highly recommended by the complex in which we were staying. Pat was the guide on both of my dives and could not have been more professional. He was very prepared and knowledgeable with regards to the locations and reefs we were diving. He took a camera on both dives and was successful in getting some great pictures of me with turtles and other marine life. The second dive was actually a scooter dive which was amazing. Divers can cover an extremely large amount of area when utilizing the scooters and I would recommend trying it at least once. In addition to Pat, I also meet the owners of the company when preparing/returning from the dives. They are extremely friendly people who were open to talking about anything and everything diving related. One of the best parts of both dives is the limited number of people in the diving group that went out. There were 3 divers/1guide for the first dive and 2 divers/1guide for the scooter dive. I'm not a big fan of the dive tours with several people all crammed together. This was a much more personal experience where divers of all experience levels get the attention they need. It was a pleasure to dive with this outfit and I have every intention of looking them up when I return to Maui. I highly recommend that anyone else looking to dive does the same thing. read more

I just completed my first dive with Steve at Scuba Luv! Upon meeting Steve I immediately appreciated his calm energy, which instantly transferred to me and helped ease my own nervous energy. His instruction was very calm, direct and thorough. He was very patient, putting safety first, and his love for teaching scuba is genuine and apparent- he wants everyone to have a great experience. His comfort in the ocean is fun to observe and it was especially good to hear him also mention respecting the ocean life- turtles, coral etc. in his dialogue. The gear was also in great condition- seemed brand new. I will be back for more dives and highly recommend Steve and Scuba Luv Maui to new divers. We came here to finish off our PADI referral certification. Brandon was a great instructor who was very patient and took the time to get us both comfortable (the class was just the two of us and Brandon). They are conveniently located at Makena Beach and Golf Resort where we stayed. We took advantage of their pool to get a quick refresher on everything. I don't know of any other SCUBA company in Maui that offers a pool dive; it's probably not the most important thing if you're comfortable with all the gear, but for us, it was nice. The rest of the training was shore dives which were an easy walk from the shack. Wet suits were good quality (unlike the first part of our referral course in LA) and the gear seemed pretty new. And the water was warm and clear. Pretty ideal for a beginner. They gave us a coupon for a discounted scooter dive. Hope we'll get to use it on our next trip. Mahalo! read more

Although I have issues with Scuba Luv, to be completely fair, when it came to the 2 dives I did with them, I got exactly what was advertised and what I paid for. Steve, the dive master, was totally competent, professional and observed all the protocols for safe diving. He is also a very friendly and nice guy. That being said I would like to give a head's up to anyone who is considering diving with Scuba Luv. While I wouldn't say that the way they present themselves is deceitful, I would say it's less than accurate. I did a lot of on-line research before choosing Scuba Luv and along with their reviews, I liked the way the presented themselves on their website. I liked that they seemed like a "mom & pop shop" who were more about diving than business. I was half right; they are "mom & pop" but there's no "shop". There is no actual dive shop which I didn't find out til I offered to come into the shop to pay for my dive package. It seems they run the business out of their house and a van at the beach. I purchased their 3 dive package for $299. I really wanted the shore dive that comes with the package to be the sunset (night dive) that they describe in glowing terms on their site. Diana (who seems to handle all the business) tried to discourage my interest in that dive. I really wanted that night dive so we went back and forth about it until she finally claimed that the wind on the beach in the evenings made the dive practically impossible. I asked why it was even offered on the site if that was the case and got no response. This should have been a red flag but I didn't see it. We actually stayed in a hotel right on the beach in Kihei for 10 days and there was wind in the evenings, BUT ONLY ON 3-4 OF THOSE DAYS. On my second shore dive with them IN THE MORNING there was so much wind that there were waves strong enough to knock me over with my tank and all my equipment on. We went on that dive anyway. Scuba Luv just didn't want to do the night dive. Although I booked well in advance of our arrival on Maui, I didn't schedule my dives or pay until I got there and knew more about when I would have time to go diving. A day or so after arriving I started getting emails from Diana which I can only describe as high pressure. She wanted me to schedule my dives as soon as possible as their dives were filling up and she was afraid there wouldn't be space for me. This pressure also should have been a red flag. On my first dive I WAS THE ONLY DIVER and on my last dive I was one of only 4 divers!! One of the 3 dives in my package was a boat dive. Diana even bragged about "their" really nice brand new scuba boat. When I got to the dock, there was only one boat there - from another competing dive shop, B&B Scuba. As everyone who came to the dock boarded that boat, I kept waiting for another boat from Scuba Luv to arrive. Finally it got to my dive departure time so I asked the boat that was there and it turned out they were looking for me!! Scuba Luv had booked a dive for me with one of the other dive shops in Kihei without telling me...and boasted about B&B's new boat as if it were theirs. Diana had actually referred to it as "our" new dive boat. B&B was actually a great dive operation with very experienced and very knowledgeable guides. I quickly realized I should have booked with them for all my dives. If I were to recommend a dive operation in Kihei, it would definitely be B&B and not Scuba Luv. And they do have a beautiful new boat! On top of all that, when Diana gave me directions to the dock, where I had to arrive in the pitch dark at 5:30AM, she neglected to mention that there were 2 parking lots, one down by the dock (which was for cars with trailers only) and one NOT near the dock for regular cars. There were actually signs posted in obscure locations which I couldn't see but there were several other cars parked in the trailer area when I parked there so I thought it was ok. Had Diana mentioned anything about the "obvious" parking lot being restricted, I would have known better. Since I didn't know any better, I came back from the dive to find a $35 ticket on my car!! (All the other cars parked there were ticketed too. It seems like it's a good way for the town of Kihei to make money off unsuspecting tourists.). It was really upsetting that Diana didn't mention anything about illegal parking when it would have been easy for her to do so. Even though the diving with Steve was fine, the way Scuba Luv misrepresented themselves felt sneaky and underhanded and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. If I go back to Kihei again I would avoid Scuba Luv and definitely dive with B&B. I recommend you do the same. read more
