The food alone gets 5 stars but when you have to wait in line for 10 minutes while your food sits under a heat lamp because the girl up front is fixing drinks and shakes, chili dogs or Fritos, your food is getting cold. They should have another window just for people to pick up called in orders. Just a small ol' fashioned joint right off of LA-1 that everyone local talks about. Order at the window and if "dining", there's a few picnic tables around the building which only is the kitchen. Went ahead and got the double cheeseburger and onion rings. Was not disappointed...the burger was splendid besides the fact that they build it downside up. Onion rings were not my absolute favorite but they were good nonetheless. French fries were salt-less but still good! Paid $28 I think for 3 burgers, 2 sides and a drink. Apparently my cousin, Eric, owns the joint now. The Goal Post was a family favorite my entire life. I moved to Baton Rouge, Washington DC, and have been in the San Francisco Bay Area for more years than my early life in Raceland. I love cooking and am considered by friends and family to be a "foodie" (term I hate). I am not a snob tho and I know where I come from. And whenever I visit the Bayou at least one trip to the Goal Post is REQUIRED. I don't know if the burgers and po boys are mostly nostalgia for me, but nothing compares. I'm done. I loved this place. But holy crap an hour to get an order. And after you tell me 20-30 minutes on the phone. People don't have that long to wait. And it's fine if you have a piece of paper on the window explaining you're not fast food. But if you can't get the order out in 20-30 then don't say it. People are thinking they have time to come get it and eat it before getting back to where they need and they don't. This place is a classic in our area that locals have come to love. Folks who move away must grab a burger or a Poorboy when they come back home to visit. It's take-out but there are picnic tables under a shady canopy to sit and grub down outdoors and it's been just that way for many decades. You can phone ahead to order. Being new to the area, the only reason I knew this place existed is because of the overwhelming flock of cars pulled over on the side of the road. And I've been twice this week. Goal Post is a walk-up shack with a couple of covered picnic tables situated outside. There are two ordering windows and the staff are very busy bustling around making food as it's ordered, so it takes a couple of minutes to get helped. I recommend calling ahead to order if you want to get in and out of there as quickly as possible... which still might not even be THAT quick if there's a line. For our first visit at GP, I ordered a burger, which was a little better than an average quick service burger. I'll take it over a fast food chain burger, but it's not like In N Out where one day I'd think "hmmm, a Goal Post burger sounds delicious right now". Hubby got the chili Fritos, they were very tasty. You get your choice of grated cheese or nacho cheese if that's your thing, which I greatly appreciate because that goopy cheese is not my style. The fries were great, hot and fresh! For our second visit, we got a chocolate cherry shake, which was pretty awesome. I can already tell this place is going to be my default choice when I need to cure a growly tummy. This place never disappoints me. I have been eating from Goal Post since I was a young child. This is a great treat no matter what you order off of the menu. I would recommend Goal Post to all and you will not be disappointed. The grilled chicken on wheat bun is my absolute favorite. If in town, you must stop by. Drive-in along Bayou Lafourche. I've visited this spot ever since I was a little kid, and it's always retained the same quality. The burgers and fries are awesome. It's nice to be able to sit on the picnic benches by the Bayou, too. read more
