Since it was early enough I also had the small happy hour Brussel Spouts appetizer. I adore their Spouts & have had them the last 4-5 times. Yum. The steak was perfection. The sautéed vegetables were good. The whipped garlic potatoes were too salty for me. Unfortunately, I love a good fried oyster & these were only OK. They seemed not to been drained enough. There was quite a bit of oil on my plate headed towards my steak. The cracker meal breading (not my fave) was falling off left & right. Of the 3 oysters only one came close to my idea. Of the other - 1 so rubbery I had to spit it out and the other melted on my tongue so fast I wasn't sure there had been an oysters under the coating. Outside of the oysters I will continue to patronize Omar's because they're usually the best and have been here longer than I've been coming to Ashland (1985). According to the website there been around since 1946. Way older than me.

We were at Omar's for dinner with a group of six friends on Wednesday at 6:30, and several of us wanted to order the crab special, but it was already so popular it had sold out. We all enjoyed the alternate seafood items we ordered (3 orders of breaded and baked snapper and Manila Clams), but the soft shell crab meunière was still on my mind... My husband and I had to try it, so we made an earlier reservation (5:30pm) on Friday night to see if we could snag the crab meunière. The restaurant was already getting fairly busy. Our server was so kind and our put in our dinner order right away. We were able to get the last crab dish. It was phenomenal! Buttery and delicious. We were so glad we came back twice this week. This time for Friday date night. It was a perfect experience. Classic old-school nice restaurant vibe with tasty well-prepared food, red leather booths, and friendly people. We ordered: -Soft shell crab meunière dinner special: 5 stars! (Honestly, I would give it 100 stars!) Go there and get this while they have it! -Fresh steamed Manila clams appetizer: 5 stars (I often order this appetizer as my entree and then get a side salad. They are so fresh and tasty. They're steamed in white wine, garlic, cream, and fresh herbs. Love this so much! Save some bread to dunk in the broth. -Brussels sprouts appetizer: 5 stars (prepared perfectly, crispy on the outside with balsamic vinegar and salt) -Butternut Squash ravioli appetizer: 5 stars (Cooked in brown butter. These are yummy!) -Maple walnut Manhattan: 5 stars (balanced, boozy, and not overly sweet) -Rogue Valley Trium ganache rosé: 5 stars, paired well with the clams and Crab My husband and I love Omar's. We've dined there many times, alone and with friends and family over the years. I appreciated that they have a mix of seafood options. Those are generally what we order since we're pescatarians. Another one of our favorite go-to options is Omar's panko fried Pacific oysters entree. (5 stars)

We ended up just wandering around the area looking for an alternative and stumbled upon Osteria La Briccola; I'm always down for Italian, and it looked like there were some good options for the members of our group who were gluten free. There were 7 of us though, and we were told it would be about a 50-minute wait for a table. It was getting kind of late to be looking for somewhere else to go, so we were like okay, we'll just sit and wait. As we were walking away, the general manager Daniel rushed out and said if we could give him 15 minutes, he could have us set up in the private dining room. We didn't even know such a thing existed, but we said okay, cool. Reader, it could not have possibly been a better experience. We waited a bit (less than 15 minutes, even) and walked into this private space to find a large family-style dining table all set up for us, with candlelight and music and the whole bit. Our server Patrick was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the menu, able to answer all our questions, and had a great sense of humor. Everyone ordered something different and ended up trying bites of each other's food, and it was all delicious. Several of us even ordered dessert; I don't normally, but the salted caramel gelato sounded too good to pass up (and it was well worth it). It was such a great evening and was, I'm sure, 10x better than the other place we'd originally planned on eating at. Thank you Daniel and Patrick for taking such good care of us!

Chef Nat Borsi's modern Mediterranean haven is a testament to substance over style, a place where "farm-to-table" isn't a marketing slogan but a palpable ethos. The menu, which deftly avoids the trap of being overextended, delivers singular triumphs. The Mushroom Bolognese is a masterclass in vegetarian depth, a richly savory ragout that satisfies on a primal level. The house-made pastas shine; the Lamb Bucatini offers meaty, soulful complexity, while the Seafood Pasta is a testament to the pristine ingredients of the Pacific Northwest. For the carnivore, the Roasted Chicken is a beautifully simple, perfectly executed dish that speaks to the kitchen's bedrock technique. With service that is as warm as the intimate, welcoming ambiance, Cocorico is not just a meal-it's a cornerstone of the Ashland dining experience.

Our table was in their patio space, which I actually like better than the indoor part of the restaurant. The patio space feels very open and has a lot of live plants in the planters that make space between tables. It was a little warm on the patio since it was 98 degrees outside, but they keep it relatively cool on this mostly enclosed patio. Our server was great. She was so friendly and fun to talk to. She helped us figure out what we wanted to order and checked in on us just the right amount. You can tell the food here is very fresh and homemade. We started with the Deviled Eggs, which are really special. I love how they serve them over a bed of crushed up potato chips as they give this dish some salty crunch. Next we had the Beet salad, which is marinated beets over a whipped cheese. The beets do have a strong vinegar flavor, but it's balanced out beautifully by the cheese. My wife ordered the Mushroom Bolognese, which was probably the best dish of the evening. This is an incredible, vegetarian dish that is so meaty without any meat. The finely diced mushroom sauce is so good along with the handmade noodles. Also, adding burrata to it gives it a perfect creaminess. I ordered the pork chop, which was also excellent and enormous. It did take me a lot longer to eat since it was a little hard to cut, the compote on top added a great sweetness, but I feel like it could've used more. Also, the polenta and grilled asparagus was awesome. Lastly, we got the Rice Pudding for dessert. It comes with a hazelnut crumble and a dolce de leche sauce. Normally, I feel like rice pudding has a kind of thin, milky consistency, but not this. It is think and has a wonderful texture. It is probably the best rice pudding I've ever had. The nuts give a satisfying crunch and the dolce de leche sauce is light and sweet. Disclaimer: we did order one dish we really didn't like. It was a special salad with endives and lentils. The server was happy to get us another dish.

We sat out on…read morethe deck which really needed some housekeeping, just tired with cobwebs and dusty fixtures and an outdoor heater that needed attending to. Flatware was spotted and dingy. The paper menu had food stains all over it. We ordered dinner which included a salad. The Green Godess salad was terribly overdressed and took 30 minutes to arrive to the table. My filet mignon when it finally arrived much later than the salad was WAY over cooked. Totally BROWN throughout. The server did not check back on us after delivering the steak to remedy any problems and the steak WAS a problem. The steak came with side of "au gratin" potatoes that were lukewarm and had a fat cap of lukewarm cheddar cheese on top. Ugh. Finally, another 20 minutes later when I did not touch my steak, I showed her the "cook" on my steak which was brown all the way through even though I ordered medium rare. She said it was "the light" outdoors that made the steak look overdone and the steak was properly done. No. I think not. It was a 55.00 dollar 8 oz. steak, not hard to cook right? It was inedible. I then asked her why the wait was so long....1 hour to get dinner? She said the restaurant was super busy and there was only 1 cook in the kitchen. She added that we were walk-in's and that we should not have been seated. Uhm....the restaurant was pretty much empty when we arrived. When we left about 1.5 hours later the restaurant was only about 25% full. Super disappointing dinner. We had dinner at another fabulous steakhouse the night before and every detail was perfect. This restaurant has seen better days. I used to come here years ago but I am just letting you know that you can do SO much better at so many other places now!

My kids and husband said the fries were some of the best they've had-crispy exterior and soft interior. Fried chicken had a light crispy coating on the outside and the honey Aleppo mixture was great, though son said it could've used a little more salt. My scallops were some of the best scallops I've ever had before--so well cooked and perfectly seasoned and with these thinly sliced snap peas that were just barely blanched that added texture and freshness to the dish.
