I was in there today with my frail, fragile elderly female friend. The young man began to help us with her list of supplements as he was the only employee and we were the only customers. That was until a muscular bodybuilder walked in....blew right passed us and began shouting out his needs for protein powders, are they fizzy, and his discounts ect....my friend wasn't even sure she could stand long enough to enter the store to begin with but apparently her time is less precious! SHAME ON BOTH OF THESE MEN! My friend obviously had to stand and wait for this young man to do his business before she could continue with hers! Also whomever is in charge of shipping and receiving "completely forgot to order Prevagin, the memory pill!" This place caters to gym rats only! read more

If you think used car dealerships are bad, step into this place and you'll witness a new low. I'm not a body builder or fitness nut, I just wanted to get a supplement for some workouts. I did my research ahead of time and knew what I wanted. Despite me telling the guy this, he pushed and pushed a different brand and wouldn't leave me alone. Eventually someone else came into the store and another guy popped out of the backroom to start the process all over. The only difference was the new guy was hard selling something different. I got what I needed and forced my way to the checkout. The guy wouldn't stop selling and didn't know what he was talking about. He was telling me about ''CLA's and their toning potential" and having studied nutrition I said - "yes, I'm aware of conjugated linoleic acids" to which he replied, "there's no acid in it." I returned recently hoping that I came in on a bad day (I also made the mistake of buying a gold card in Batavia hence the repeat shop - dumb on my part). Nope, even worse. I was hit with a hard sell the second I stepped into the door. I looked at the guy and said, listen - I'm not trying to be rude, but I know what I want and I'm going to grab that and go. That didn't matter, he kept talking and trying to engage me. "You looking to tone or build?" Me - "I'm good, thanks" When I touched the product, he replied ''Ohhh, you use that. Come on let me show you something better" I set the product down and left. The guy yelled after me as I was leaving and chased me into the parking lot trying to sell. I'm not kidding. I will never go back here again. I'm guessing they pay on commission here, maybe at all GNCs. The one in Batavia isn't as bad, but people who can't take no for an answer embarrass me and themselves. I understand some people are just doing their jobs, but my goodness - selling wellness on commission is wrong, misleading and most of all ANNOYING. It's fine to offer help, but when someone says no thank you BACK OFF. I'm a bit afraid to drive by this place for fear someone is going to throw themselves in front of my car in order to sell a brand or a bottle of multivitamins. One can do a little research online and find better answers and cheaper supplements. read more

Let me start off by saying, wow! I came in the other day looking to try out some supplements for my workouts for the first time. Normally I only use a multivitamin and a fish oil and thats all I really know about in terms of supplements. A guy named Phil greeted me as soon as i walked in the door. It seemed as if he was working on cleaning but he dropped it and gave me his full attention right away! So i started telling him about the kind of workouts i do, and how i only get to work out a couple days a week and how i wanted to lose some stubborn fat. Phil showed me a great selection of products and actually took the time to explain to me how everything worked, and how I should use it! The best part was how he actually seemed like he used the product before - unlike vitamin shoppe nearby where ive tried going to before (unsatisfactory experience) He also asked about the other supplements i was using and i told him i was using a multivitamin and fish oil i normally get from walgreens. He explained to me how theirs might be a better fit for my needs with my desire for fat loss. I already had some so i declined and he gave me a coupon and told me to stop back when i was ready (score!). I ended up walking away (very pleased i might add) with a pre workout and a protein to help with my recovery. And i must say, everything he said was spot on! The pre workout gave me tons of energy for my after work workouts and the protein makes me feel way less sore than usual! Overall Im super happy with the experience i had and i gladly would recommend them to friends and family in the area looking to get healthier! Thanks again Phil, youre awesome! I have been purchasing supplements for over 10 years. I have shopped at various shops and websites (http://bodybuilding.com, vitaminshoppe, fitrx, supplmentwarehouse, etc..), but I must say, the guys at South Elgin are fantastic!! They are well trained and well mannered. I consider myself to be very knowledgeable when it comes to health and fitness, especially the use of supplementation. When I came across a few new products I wasn't familiar with, the staff was able to tell me about them and educate me on the product. A lot of other GNCs and various supplement stores do not know their product and I am left searching google for the best answers. Their prices are also very competitive. They will price match or beat any competitor's prices. It doesn't matter from where, they will beat them! I am happy because I no longer have to purchase supplements online and wait for them to be shipped. The atmosphere of the store was full of energy with great music. Usually when I go to a GNC, the sales person is very pushy. That wasn't the case here, I was greeted and asked if I needed any help, I told the gentleman " I was just browsing around" and he was very cool about it and went back to restocking the shelves. This gave me the opportunity to take my time and look around, without the feeling of someone watching over my shoulder and following my every world. I enjoy looking into and reading a lot of products. When I did have questions the gentleman was happy to answer them. Overall a great experience! I have never been to a GNC, or supplement store, like this before. The next time I run out of products or in the area, I will definitely be stopping in! This place is terrible, I wanted a pre workout and used one scoop of it. That was before the guy tried to sell me 3 other things that were overpriced. I realized it didn't work as well as I hoped so I wanted to return it. When I brought it back the guy picked up and said I'm not giving you a refund for this and I asked why and he said it's empty and I said what do you mean I took one scoop out there's barely a difference in weight from an on opened one. He continued to tell me he wouldn't give me a refund so I asked what my options were and he said nothing you can't return something you already used and I show him the policy online and he said he didn't care. This guy was light-skinned with glasses and his friend or coworker was also there and didn't say a word and just looked at me like I was clueless. All they try to do there is sell you something that will give them the benefit of the sale and don't care about customer service. read more

I have been into this location a handful of times and the service is always great. The two gentleman that work the store are very helpful and knowledgeable. I was looking to cut down a few pounds and they gave me the ins and outs of losing weight. They even helped with my diet regimen.
