Gnarly Vines is one of a kind. A community oriented wine shop with an excellent selection and a knowledgeable staff. My fiancé and I lived in the neighborhood for 2 years and we recently relocated to California. Though we are in wine country, we still miss our little corner shop on Myrtle and think of it fondly. My partner Jen became fast friends with the owner, Brian, and he always greeted us in the store like one might greet guests at a dinner party. The shop is pet friendly and always ready to reward your pup with a treat. Don't be surprised most Friday nights or Sunday afternoons if you're greeted with a sample of some tasty wine or a sip of some new mezcal or gin they are trying out in the store. This place values their customers and makes sure their regulars enjoy what's on the shelves. Over the last few months, Daniel, one of the associates, asked us frequently about updates on our moving process and always suggested a great wine for the many occasions we were celebrating from saying goodbye to close friends to hectic nights of packing. On our last night in Brooklyn, my parents (who live outside of the city and only visited the shop on occasion) went to Gnarly to grab a bottle while we stayed back to pack and clean out our apartment. Daniel recognized them and made sure to say goodbye with a nice note and a comped bottle of delicious wine, our last in New York. This was a sincere goodbye and such an honor from this amazing shop which we came to think of as friends. They always made us feel part of the community and that is so important when living in NYC. It's these types of touches that makes Gnarly Vines a cut above the rest, and we will definitely be stoping in for a bottle or three on our next visit to beautiful Brooklyn. read more

Listen...I love Gnarly Vines...I've been coming here for years. Their selection of wine is fabulous, and they have that small neighborhood feel. They definitely need severe improvement in their delivery service. Two days ago it took 2 hours and 45 minutes, yesterday it took 20 minutes (excellent!) and today it's almost at 1 hour 30 minutes. They should reconsider offering delivery if their times are going into be so unpredictable. Great shop!! I finally located a wonderful Rose ( Seven Sisters ) from South Africa that I was desperate to find here. I'm in Manhattan so I emailed the store to check that it was actually in stock before I headed out there and lo and behold it was! They actually responded to my message in a matter of minutes and kindly set aside my bottles for pickup. I have been patronizing Gnarly Vines since it opened some years back. I like the selections and the fact that they deliver.

This place has a good liquor selection and some good wine (albeit limited selection) that is fairly reasonable (I realize that the Manhattan megastores (PJ's, Garnet, etc.) will always have better prices than small local shops, but it is nice to support local spots.) Trouble is, the way they organize the wine is confusing, and the displays are quite bad. Most of the wall real estate is taken up with inexplicable displays of wine lying on its side (can't see the label, so what is the point), and the actual wine with labels is shunted off to one side. Their selection isn't very extensive. They have tons of stuff displayed, but as I mentioned is mostly displays of inventory. Don't really get that. Great selections of wines and alcohol, ranging in price and geography. I tend to never buy expensive wine and always find great bottles from $7-20. And you don't get the feeling, as you might in other stores, that you're disappointing the staff for not buying an outrageous bottle (of which they have plenty). They also don't disappoint in the hard alcohol area, with a deep selection of unique bottles, along with the stand-bys. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of tastings. read more

Robinson knows what he is doing and he is an honest broker. you can get a great cheap bottle, a great medium priced bottle--and if you want to splurge he can help you not make a fool of yourself. Mapped locations of where the wine comes from on very informative and useful tags on the shelf below the products. So you can see the little zone on the country and what country the wine is from. That is so helpful and detail minded I want to pat the person on the back who had the balls to push that idea for this store. Finally, a good wine store in my neighborhood that has few good wines in stock that won't break the bank (referring to my ceramic piggy bank). Actually, the wines they sell are thoughtfully selected and they have many good options for under $20. Also within the past year, they have been expanding their stock to include high end liquors and whiskeys. I noticed Maker Mark's 46 Bourbon, Pritchard's Double Barrell Tennesse Bourbon, and Tobermorey Single Malt Scotch on the shelves. What really makes me gives this place 4 stars instead of 3 is the friendly staff and the wine/whiskey tasting every other day from 6-8pm. If you happen to like something from the tasting, then you can get 10-15% off your purchase that night. Sounds pretty good to me and keep those free tastings coming. read more

Gnarly Vines is my kind of wine shop. They have $10-and-below wines on display up front, but you can count on them to be quality, drinkable selections despite the price. The rest of their inventory is clearly arranged by region with helpful info on the tags, so you won't be lost if you don't know your Barossas from your Brunellos. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful without making customers feel like they need to speak "wine" to understand. No pretension. They have weekly tastings and overall the space is very inviting. Truth, I have never been in the store, but I love this place. They are alway very knowledgeable and kind. If you order a case of wine you get a 10% discount, and 2 cases you get 15% discount. Plus for every , I believe, $100 you spend you get $7 back. Defiantly have excellent rewards. Additionly, they have a great selection of wine, and even if you order several bottles, I have never been told they are out. I appreciate that they do not go mainstream, and that there are different bottles of wine that I can only find here. Defiantly one of my favorite places to get wine from. Highly recommend. I understand that there are other reviews that talk about the difference in delivery time. She state three days in a row. My recommendations would be just buy enough for all three days at one time. This is my fourth time ordering from them and it has always gone smoothly. I live on Long Island so they organize the delivery and it always arrives well packed and earlier than promised. I first found them as I was tracking down a particular rose that I tasted in a restaurant and they showed up online as one of the only stockists. Each staff member is very helpful and knowledgable and I really like that they dont try to push $40 wines on you for your Monday night dinner. I've never actually set foot in the store because ordering online is so easy. The website is simple, they deliver for free to my apartment and their hours allow me to get home from work late and still call and get something before they close up for the night. The selection of wines is very good with plenty of gems in the $7-$15 range. The spirits selection is interesting and has many good brands for reasonable prices and a few small brands I still haven't tried yet (McCarthy's Single Malt was especially good).
