What a great wine seller! Brian and his professional staff are knowledgeable and very attentive to customers. They have gourmet quality spirits at great prices. Gnarly Vines is a truly green business having a bicycle delivery system, energy efficient electrical fixtures and using recovered resources in their build-out. They also promote community with their many wine tastings that include other small businesses in the community, and creative ways of making Brooklyn more livable and human. The owner is frequently on the floor attending to customers and fine-tuning his stock to represent the taste of the neighborhood, not just his own palate. If you are going to a dinner party or simply want to enjoy a bottle while relaxing with your sweetheart, these folks will surely help you find what you are looking for. read more

Listen...I love Gnarly Vines...I've been coming here for years. Their selection of wine is fabulous, and they have that small neighborhood feel. They definitely need severe improvement in their delivery service. Two days ago it took 2 hours and 45 minutes, yesterday it took 20 minutes (excellent!) and today it's almost at 1 hour 30 minutes. They should reconsider offering delivery if their times are going into be so unpredictable. I hope they can get this figured out because they would be the best wine shop in Brooklyn, if they do. read more

Great shop!! I finally located a wonderful Rose ( Seven Sisters ) from South Africa that I was desperate to find here. I'm in Manhattan so I emailed the store to check that it was actually in stock before I headed out there and lo and behold it was! They actually responded to my message in a matter of minutes and kindly set aside my bottles for pickup. I intended to go in and out of the store, but I ended up having a great conversation with the owner. Nice guy! read more

This place has a good liquor selection and some good wine (albeit limited selection) that is fairly reasonable (I realize that the Manhattan megastores (PJ's, Garnet, etc.) will always have better prices than small local shops, but it is nice to support local spots.) Trouble is, the way they organize the wine is confusing, and the displays are quite bad. Most of the wall real estate is taken up with inexplicable displays of wine lying on its side (can't see the label, so what is the point), and the actual wine with labels is shunted off to one side. Their selection isn't very extensive. They have tons of stuff displayed, but as I mentioned is mostly displays of inventory. Don't really get that. Good selection of cheapie wines near front. read more

Gnarly Vines is one of a kind. A community oriented wine shop with an excellent selection and a knowledgeable staff. My fiancé and I lived in the neighborhood for 2 years and we recently relocated to California. Though we are in wine country, we still miss our little corner shop on Myrtle and think of it fondly. My partner Jen became fast friends with the owner, Brian, and he always greeted us in the store like one might greet guests at a dinner party. The shop is pet friendly and always ready to reward your pup with a treat. Don't be surprised most Friday nights or Sunday afternoons if you're greeted with a sample of some tasty wine or a sip of some new mezcal or gin they are trying out in the store. This place values their customers and makes sure their regulars enjoy what's on the shelves. Over the last few months, Daniel, one of the associates, asked us frequently about updates on our moving process and always suggested a great wine for the many occasions we were celebrating from saying goodbye to close friends to hectic nights of packing. On our last night in Brooklyn, my parents (who live outside of the city and only visited the shop on occasion) went to Gnarly to grab a bottle while we stayed back to pack and clean out our apartment. Daniel recognized them and made sure to say goodbye with a nice note and a comped bottle of delicious wine, our last in New York. This was a sincere goodbye and such an honor from this amazing shop which we came to think of as friends. They always made us feel part of the community and that is so important when living in NYC. It's these types of touches that makes Gnarly Vines a cut above the rest, and we will definitely be stoping in for a bottle or three on our next visit to beautiful Brooklyn. read more

You guys rock - wish it was a little less expensive like it used to be - but you guys are wonderful people, wonderful wine, and a real asset to teh hood! Owners a real mensch too. fer realz. read more

Great selections of wines and alcohol, ranging in price and geography. I tend to never buy expensive wine and always find great bottles from $7-20. And you don't get the feeling, as you might in other stores, that you're disappointing the staff for not buying an outrageous bottle (of which they have plenty). They also don't disappoint in the hard alcohol area, with a deep selection of unique bottles, along with the stand-bys. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of tastings. read more

This is a great neighborhood wine shop. We support this place 100%. The selection is very good with lower priced wines to wines you are interested in impressing others with at a party. Additionally, the owner of the shop is very friendly and helpful. The various tastings they have are a bonus. All around great place so just go to gnarly and check it out for yourself. read more

Great wine and spirits store!!! They have a great selection of wine that ranges from under $10 and up, and they carry a wonderful Vigonier!!! The spirits selection was very interesting as well. They are very helpful, courteous and kid-friendly! I will be going back. Delivery can be had for $20 minimum!! *~* read more

Friendly, extremely knowledgeable staff. Vast, unique selection; there's something for everyone and at every price range. Dog-friendly. Regular tastings. They deliver! read more

I think Gnarly Vines is terrific. It was the first specialty wine store to open up in the area, and I'm really glad it's made itself a presence and continues to do well. I'm not a wine aficionado, but Gnarly Vines makes me want to try. I mostly come by a few times a year to pick up gifts, though given their weekly tastings (sign up for their mailing list!) that may well change. The store itself is a cool space, vary large and well laid out, with a very comfortable, down to earth vibe that you don't get in a lot of other wine specialty stores. As a wine novice, I really appreciate their curated selection and presentation, describing the wines with little cards also indicating the region it came from- it makes me feel a lot more sophisticated than I have any right to feel. They also make a point of highlighting particularly good, inexpensive wine, for those of us on a budget. As other reviewers have said, they also have a selection of liquors. They also provide refrigerated bottles, so if you want to see if they have something chilled, be sure to ask (I was buying a bottle of prosecco there once, and they were nice enough to swap it for a cold version). They also offer to keep track of previous purchases so as to better provide recommendations for future purchases. The staff, as many have said, are knowledgeable, down to earth, friendly, and eager to help or answer any questions. I look forward to any excuse to stop by for a bottle or two of red! read more

I shop here almost every day. Always have a treat for my dog. My favorite wine shop in NYC.

I have been patronizing Gnarly Vines since it opened some years back. I like the selections and the fact that they deliver.

Nice neighborhood wine store. I enjoy their wines and frequent wine tastings. Personable staff who is very knowledgable.

We love Gnarly Vines and are so happy to have them in the neighborhood. Excellent selection, great prices, amazing delivery options and they are so helpful, unpretentious, and totally down-to-earth. The best wine shop imaginable (and they have a great selection of booze too). read more

Mapped locations of where the wine comes from on very informative and useful tags on the shelf below the products. So you can see the little zone on the country and what country the wine is from. That is so helpful and detail minded I want to pat the person on the back who had the balls to push that idea for this store. The local artwork on the walls also help to make this place look less like a booze depot and more like a friendly antioxidant health food store. I liked this place and its employees. read more

Consistently attentive, down-to-earth, quirky - Gnarly Vines delivers on all fronts, and is a favorite in the neighborhood. Their regular tastings are a great way to try and learn about new wines and spirits--getting to purchase them at a modest discount is a bonus. read more

Finally, a good wine store in my neighborhood that has few good wines in stock that won't break the bank (referring to my ceramic piggy bank). Actually, the wines they sell are thoughtfully selected and they have many good options for under $20. Also within the past year, they have been expanding their stock to include high end liquors and whiskeys. I noticed Maker Mark's 46 Bourbon, Pritchard's Double Barrell Tennesse Bourbon, and Tobermorey Single Malt Scotch on the shelves. What really makes me gives this place 4 stars instead of 3 is the friendly staff and the wine/whiskey tasting every other day from 6-8pm. If you happen to like something from the tasting, then you can get 10-15% off your purchase that night. Sounds pretty good to me and keep those free tastings coming. read more

Gnarly Vines is my kind of wine shop. They have $10-and-below wines on display up front, but you can count on them to be quality, drinkable selections despite the price. The rest of their inventory is clearly arranged by region with helpful info on the tags, so you won't be lost if you don't know your Barossas from your Brunellos. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful without making customers feel like they need to speak "wine" to understand. No pretension. They have weekly tastings and overall the space is very inviting. Gnarly Vines even keeps your purchase history on file so you can reorder that Txomin Etxamiz Txakoli de Getaria you liked even you can't remember how to pronounce it let alone spell it. read more

My favorite wine and spirits place in New York. They cover all price points and have a very interesting selection. You can ask for advice and they deliver. Also, since they keep your purchases on file, you can give them your name and be like, "I want that wine I got last time" and they can help you. Great asset to the neighborhood. read more

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable - they make great suggestions and work within your budget. Delivery is wonderful - helps that they keep track of your orders. Love this wine shop - they even delivered to me in a snowstorm earlier this year! read more

Truth, I have never been in the store, but I love this place. They are alway very knowledgeable and kind. If you order a case of wine you get a 10% discount, and 2 cases you get 15% discount. Plus for every , I believe, $100 you spend you get $7 back. Defiantly have excellent rewards. Additionly, they have a great selection of wine, and even if you order several bottles, I have never been told they are out. I appreciate that they do not go mainstream, and that there are different bottles of wine that I can only find here. Defiantly one of my favorite places to get wine from. Highly recommend. I understand that there are other reviews that talk about the difference in delivery time. She state three days in a row. My recommendations would be just buy enough for all three days at one time. Although delivery time varies, they are always good at letting me know a time frame and asking me if that will work. read more

Simply the best value for money at every price point. Robinson knows what he is doing and he is an honest broker. you can get a great cheap bottle, a great medium priced bottle--and if you want to splurge he can help you not make a fool of yourself. The staff are always gracious; the selection is amazing for a large store--but for a neighborhood place it is a miracle. They have it all. I have been shopping here since they opened and I recommend it passionately. vaut le voyage! read more

Great selection, great prices. We always grab a bottle on our way to Thai Holic. There is an area up front that has sub-$12 bottles.

I LOOOOOOOOVE wine. What do I love more than wine? A great wine selection and a crew of helpful knowledgeable staff. What a pleasure it was to walk in here. I could have stayed all day. I wasn't fortunate enough to walk in during a wine tasting, but they invited me to one that they are having next week in which they will be pairing it with a dessert. Who woulda thunk?? LOVE it read more

This is my fourth time ordering from them and it has always gone smoothly. I live on Long Island so they organize the delivery and it always arrives well packed and earlier than promised. I first found them as I was tracking down a particular rose that I tasted in a restaurant and they showed up online as one of the only stockists. Brian is very knowledgeable and always has the answer to any questions I have. In the past I have always dealt with the bigger wine stores in the city but now I would rather give these guys the business if I'm buying something they have in stock. Its nice to be remembered when you call with an order and it gives a personal touch to the transaction. It is a pleasure to do business with Gnarly Vines. read more

We're new to the neighborhood so we're trying out all our options. We placed our first order today - great selection, and delivery was quick and super friendly! I'll order from here every time! read more

Visited the store and the wine I wanted wasn't stocked.Which is becoming a trend in the past few months. The store was understaffed and extremely dusty. I sneezed like 5 times in my quick trip. read more

We live in the neighborhood and Gnarly Vine is our closest wine store. After buying so many bottles of mediocre, disappointing wine, dealing with their rude and pretentious staff, I agree with the other comments below, do not waste your time with this place. Go to Tipsy or even Corkscrew, or order from Astor Place because anywhere is better than here. read more

Hands down best service and selection of carefully chosen wines. Each staff member is very helpful and knowledgable and I really like that they dont try to push $40 wines on you for your Monday night dinner. They have a great $10 and under wall of trusty go-to wines. If you tell them what you're having for dinner and how much you want to spend they will find the right selection for you. I also appreciate their lesser-known varietals...people need to be encouraged to try something new. Also, they have a handy purchase tracking system so in case you had something awesome but couldn't remember the name, they can tell you! read more

Superb choice of wines and liquors with a great loyalty program. The best store for all your alcohol needs in Fort Greene, no question!

I've never actually set foot in the store because ordering online is so easy. The website is simple, they deliver for free to my apartment and their hours allow me to get home from work late and still call and get something before they close up for the night. The selection of wines is very good with plenty of gems in the $7-$15 range. The spirits selection is interesting and has many good brands for reasonable prices and a few small brands I still haven't tried yet (McCarthy's Single Malt was especially good). They have become my go to store since I moved to Brooklyn. read more

This is probably my favorite liquor store in Brooklyn. They have everything you need with a huge selection, it's so organized, there's a great quick pick and value pack section at the front which is basically how I shop. And, the owner and the staff are so super helpful, knowledgeable and professional. read more

Looking for a very specific (& elusive) wine from the Basque Country in Spain, I came across Gnarly Vines. Not only did they have it but the owner was meeting friends for dinner that night in Manhattan very close to where I live and he delivered it! On a Sunday night!! Unbelievable! I don't expect this unsustainable service all the time but the selection of wine coupled with the treatment I received will make me a loyal customer. Thank you , Brian!! read more

I'm moving them up - the service has been consistently fantastic and I keep finding good bottles of wine at $20 or less and some great surprises at $10 to $12. They really prove the point that you don't have to spend a truckload of money to have nice wine. read more

the best neighborhood wine store hands down. good selection at prices that won't make your wallet cringe and a personal and friendly touch from the staff to go along with it. i love it when i walk in there or even call for delivery (yes they deliver and are enthusiastic about it) and their greeting is always warm and cheerful. they have even taken time to remember my name and keep a good file on what you order. so when you are feeling like a 'tard trying to describe that yummy white vino they delivered to you last week on that hot summer night, they easily make that feeling go away by listing every last bottle you have purchased. great job gnarly vines! read more
