I'm reviewing Monograms here at the Globus site, as Monograms is a fully owned extension of Globus, and we were thrown together with Globus during our trip. In a word, NO. NO. NO. NO. We were setup and robbed during a fully escorted Globus/Monograms optional excursion (as were 2 others).
This is a short review because I just returned from my trip with Monograms and I want to post this right away. BEWARE. This company is not worth even a cursory glance. DO NOT BOOK. We booked a 4 night tour for London and a 5 night tour for Paris - back to back. You are basically only paying for the hotel and 1 city tour by bus. The tour is barely 2 hours and drives past major sites - that's it. I knew it was "freestyle" touring, but this is extreme.
You are a la carte for everything else - and it's marked up. And, what the company advertises as available tours are not easily booked or available. Your "local host" has abbreviated hours at the hotel, and especially in London, NOT HELPFUL. The major issue we have is that we did book an additional excursion in London (Taste of London), the total cost for a pub dinner (set menu - no choices) and a short 30 minute river cruise at night (could not see anything) was $280 pounds - so $370 USD. And, we were robbed at the pub!!!! It was a complete setup, and Monograms even refuses to refund the price of the pub dinner and river cruise! Yes, we have a police report, and we did purchase travel insurance which we cover $500 of our personal effects loss (total loss of items taken is $1400). We were taken to a pub off Trafalgar Square called The Silver Cross. We were escorted into a private, reserved dining area for our small group at the back of the pub. My family was sitting at the back of this reserved room in the corner. A Romanian gypsy woman was allowed to come into the room and steal directly from our table, while begging for money and food. She approached our table quickly, laid a map on top of our plates (eww) and began pointing at the map and gesturing to the bread basket and other plates. The distraction tactic was to have us follow her one hand, while stealing our iPhones, etc., with the other. As soon as I realized what was going on, she had robbed our table and 2 others! We requested that the pub manager call the police - he refused. And, he and the other manager were both Eastern European. We have found out that the 3 owners of the pub are all Eastern European also. The manager told us to go outside and walk around to find a police officer. As my iPhone was stolen, I could not contact the police myself and honestly, I didn't know the correct dialing number (I will learn how to contact police next time). The Monograms escort on the tour told us that Romanian gangs roam the area - what? So, you took us to a place where it's known that gangs roam? Wow. We have asked Monograms to refund the cost of the dinner at the pub at the least, with the cost of the "Taste of London" excursion, and they refused. BEWARE. read more
