Though I prefer a hard copy edition, it's okay to settle for the digital. And while the coveted A section is where I spend most of my time, Sunday's Arts & Style offer pleasant insight not seen elsewhere. Like today's article on E4, about how the children's demographic has been great for the challenged theater industry. Despite receiving other newspapers and magazines considered among the world's prime reads, the WaPo is a perspective I really look forward to. Current. Informative. Appreciated.

Dear Washington Examiner,…read more Thank you for providing me my morning's entertainment every day I go to work. It is nice to reconfirm the right-wing is full of nuts and people void of logic. 5 stars for being free. Then again, if they charged anything for this paper, I doubt anyone would buy it (just like no one buys the Washington Times). 5 stars to the bow-tie columnist for really perpetuating the prep-douche stereotype and look! Your pic just makes me crack up and you provide no insights whatsover. Hillary might be running for Pres in 2012? Yeah Ok... Actually 5 stars for pretty much all the columnist pics. Whoever picked the photos must be more liberally inclined and decided to seek revenge by picking the worst photos of those people they could possibly choose. But on a serious note, the Examiner does cover local news pretty well. Not stellar, but enough to make myself sound informed about local politics. So thank you Examiner! Given all that, I still cannot give it anything more than 3 stars due to its fear-mongering and over-the-top right wing drivel. I simply skip the op-eds now and just read the couple pages devoted to local news, and the celebrity gossip stuff. Thankfully that usually covers my morning Metro time.

Despite the short notice, he efficiently processed my order and ensured prompt delivery of the banners. I was pleasantly surprised to find that delivery was complimentary, which was a definite plus. Regarding the banner quality, having worked extensively in the convention scene for the past six years, I have encountered numerous banners. The ones provided by Alex's service stand out as the best in terms of quality. Unlike other banners I've used, these feel notably safer to handle. The construction method provides a secure assembly, minimizing the risk of accidental cuts or injuries compared to other products I've encountered in the past. I was also quoted for $165 each banner- taxes made them $175 each.

UPDATE (8/13/2007): James Wood will be leaving The New Republic to join the quaint retirement…read morecommunity otherwise known as The New Yorker. TNR stock takes a precipitous fall. ----- The production values of TNR have gone up now that they publish every two weeks (as opposed to every week), although I can't discern any difference in the paper stock. Franklin Foer (yes, his brother is you know who) has done a good job as Editor-in-Chief. The articles, as promised, are longer and more involved. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain this for the duration of his tenure. Which, in TNR terms, is usually sixteen months. I don't necessarily agree with their politics (and it is first and foremost a political mag). I read it because bien-pensant and Harvard Professor of the Practice of Literary Criticism (which is, like, THE most pretentious academic title ever) James Wood (not Woods) will drop in from time to time and lob a curt, venomous, and always fascinating review of a current book. I appreciate his acerbity regarding the sacred cows of our era (Rushdie, Pynchon, Roth...they have all incurred his wrath), and respect his almost Arnoldian dedication to questions of belief, morality, and style in our impoverished era. Plus this is where Helen Vendler -- a great poetry critic and a sweet, unassuming grand dame -- tore into the posthumous Elizabeth Bishop collection "Edgar Allan Poe and the Jukebox," which accomplished the rare feat of bitchslapping not one but TWO eminences grises of the poetry world: Liz Bishop and editor Alice Quinn (Poetry Editor of The New Yorker).

Because, face it, the features are often about "Washington" ( as in, you know, Middleburg, Virginia)-with only a smidgen of the city's flavor thrown in on occasion... Or about as often as one sees or meets an actual Washingtonian at a Nationals game. In other words, it kinda is and kinda isn't for "us". Still (kick me, somebody) -I buy it. I think because its reality is so removed from mine (I'm not an" A" list person by any means)-it represents a kind of vacation... But it pisses me off sometimes as well... Ah, we humans are a paradoxical species, yes?
