I've noticed some other reviews are essentially left-wing screeds against this publication. Because…read morethe Washington Examiner isn't To-The-Left such as The New York Times (which is not what it used to be), or the Washington Post (where, thanks to Bezos, Democracy Has Already Died In Darkness), it must be bad. Sorry, that's not how it goes. Like most papers The Washington Examiner is compprised of a) news items and b) opinion pieces. The opinion pieces are more Conservative (What, you wanted more CNN?) but not fanboy level. The news articles themselves state the who/what/when/where/why relatively straightforward... which is what textbook-definition JOURNALISM is supposed to be about. Seriously, the negative reviews by those who have a partisan bent aren't a good barometer of the paper's worth. The reality is most forms of media today have some slant, the question is whether that slant is to the extent that they'll a) regularly omit inconvenient truths, b) write misleading headlines (and then bury the lede contradicting that headline, etc.) and so on. I tend to get my news from multiple sources because too many so-called MSM sources tend to decide the truth for the reader without providing all the facts. Considering how wrong the MSM/ Press has been in the past 5+ years, determining the narrative ahead of the facts, it behooves you to find news sources which at least give you enough background on a subject so you can tell whether it's opinion-disguised-as-news, a false narrative being pushed (by whom, you'll have to figure that out yourself), or something that appears factually grounded. Enough with the cognitive dissonance and being manipulated.

I love every time I read it! I feel Where magazine is very useful, helpful and very informative since most of the time I travel by my self. And every time I go places, I make sure to get my Where Magazine, to full fill my curiosity and to enrich my travel experience to know the cool things about the city I visit, get an idea for fun things to do and all the hot spot! Excellent city guide throughout the country, which cover more than 40 cities in United States! They even spread their wings to Asia and Europe, such as Hongkong, Singapore, London and Paris! Where magazine have good articles, very informative for places to go, good restaurants for dinner, shopping places, art gallery and all those hot spots, along with their excellent maps. Complete! TNR stock takes a precipitous fall. ----- The production values of TNR have gone up now that they publish every two weeks (as opposed to every week), although I can't discern any difference in the paper stock. Franklin Foer (yes, his brother is you know who) has done a good job as Editor-in-Chief. The articles, as promised, are longer and more involved. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain this for the duration of his tenure. Which, in TNR terms, is usually sixteen months. I don't necessarily agree with their politics (and it is first and foremost a political mag). I read it because bien-pensant and Harvard Professor of the Practice of Literary Criticism (which is, like, THE most pretentious academic title ever) James Wood (not Woods) will drop in from time to time and lob a curt, venomous, and always fascinating review of a current book. I appreciate his acerbity regarding the sacred cows of our era (Rushdie, Pynchon, Roth...they have all incurred his wrath), and respect his almost Arnoldian dedication to questions of belief, morality, and style in our impoverished era. Plus this is where Helen Vendler -- a great poetry critic and a sweet, unassuming grand dame -- tore into the posthumous Elizabeth Bishop collection "Edgar Allan Poe and the Jukebox," which accomplished the rare feat of bitchslapping not one but TWO eminences grises of the poetry world: Liz Bishop and editor Alice Quinn (Poetry Editor of The New Yorker).

Because I am a lifelong Washingtonian ( and I mean one who has lived within the borders of this…read moreplace)-I consider this magazine a guilty pleasure. Why? Because, face it, the features are often about "Washington" ( as in, you know, Middleburg, Virginia)-with only a smidgen of the city's flavor thrown in on occasion... Or about as often as one sees or meets an actual Washingtonian at a Nationals game. In other words, it kinda is and kinda isn't for "us". Still (kick me, somebody) -I buy it. I think because its reality is so removed from mine (I'm not an" A" list person by any means)-it represents a kind of vacation... But it pisses me off sometimes as well... Ah, we humans are a paradoxical species, yes?
